Great video and wonderful concept! Some things I would highlight, as someone who lives in Cape Town: - the picture of white settlers and indigenous people is in fact of the Dutch and the San people, not of the portuguese and "local tribes" - Afrikaans is not simply a mixture of dutch and local dialects. Its history and formation is far more complex, and a lot of erasure of local dialects and indigenous people took place, especially when the afrikaans government standardised the language. - many of the people who were forcibly evicted and taken to race-based townships are still alive today. It would be so amazing if your channel and courses could give them a voice to tell their stories. Interviewing the locals who have lived through this history will add much needed authenticity to your videos. The new government has promised reform, but many are still waiting to be compensated for their loss and return to their former homes.

Cape Town is the most beautiful city on earth because i know very well all places there and I stayed for five years as Greek teacher at Hellenic School of Cape Town and Environs during 1988 -1993.I had many school activities and i was the headmaster of Greek school at Woodstock area close to Hellenic Community.Thank you very much the you tube for very nice Video which i see every day.Weldone!Please don'tstop the videos about Caqpe Town.

what i super love about this, is that as a tourist, you condensed at least half a day ish info you can learn on a tour/museum, into like a 7 minute video that was easily understandable

Fantastic video. Not that it's a historic lesson in the traditional sense, but this brings back memories of one of my favorite Disney Channel movies from way back, The Color of Friendship" (2000).

Good video, however the title is a bit misleading as this is actually a brief history of South Africa and not how Cape Town was found. As a Capetownian i feel as there are alot of loopholes and missable details left out of this video. - When the Portuguese first arrived here, our native Khoi people killed off 600+ Portuguese sailers in the Battle of Salt River. - When the Dutch arrived here in 1652, our native people were already civilised and exposed to Western traditions such as clothes and languages. - The Dutch imported slaves from Malaysia, Indonesia, India and West Africa. Minimal natives were captured and used as slaves. - As a result of all these diverse people and languages, Afrikaans was created by the slaves which is a mix of Indonesian, Malay, Dutch and Khoekhoegowab (the language of our native Khoi) - Afrikaans was appropriated by then Dutch "boers" which called themselves Afrikaners. Boer translates to Farmer. - When the Afrikaners came into Power Afrikaans was forced upon the entire nation.

Wasn't this supposed to be about Cape Town? Instead you condence the History of South Africa into seven minutes. What about all the landmarks, the battles fought there, the Castle, the French influence, the scenic drives, the Mountain for heaven sake, the Koi San influence! Lol, this is a joke!

I agree with Daniel Steyn . The video is interesting but seriously superficial. The history of Cape Town is important as the rest of South Africa , Cape Town is known as the Moeder Stad in Afrikaans or mother city in English so its history is important.

Afrikaans is not a mixed language it is Dutch spoken different I was in Belgium and only spoke Afrikaans to the Flemish people

This video is misleading. It's about South Africa. It doesn't even mention why, how, when and by whom Cape Town was founded. Cape Town was established to supply the ship's of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) with fresh produce on their voyages to and from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). It was founded in 1652 by Jan van Riebeek, an employee of the VOC, who, among other things, built a castle there, and established a garden in which to grow vegetables.

This is an amazing video.... but we have to mention why Nelson Mandela was freed, international interference, native South Africans were allowed to vote, and the exiled fighters were allowed back into south africa,it wasn't simply a change of heart but it was mainly the pressure and fights of the ANC and under the great leader Oliver tambo who disrupted government operations..

My great great grandfather was Vasco da Gama he took a wife here in South Africa in Capetown and was not reported in the history books as my great great grandmother was a cape Malay woman they lived in Woodstock Capetown. My great great grandfather was told to go back to Portugal. He never came back. So many lies in our history books . This country truly belongs to the koi san people and the zulu nations the other nations arrived here from other African countries and Europe.

The first slaves came from Dahomey, they intercepted two Portuguese slave cargos on their way to Brazil. Also from Madagascar and East Africa. Only later groups of slaves came from Asia due to the Atlantic Slave Trade getting bigger. Btw they call us Coloureds today

Misleading Title... this video is more about South Africa than Cape Town...no mention of Jan van Riebeeck or when he arrived...the Castle of Good Hope?...you could have talked about the early trade in buchu tea between the local inhabitants and the Dutch...so much more you could have done with this title if you spend more time or energy on researching...I have lived my entire life in Cape Town and this video is an insult to Cape Town and it's history. All you did was go for the normal easy stuff everyone goes for by spending the majority talking about segregation in South Africa with a small portion about Cape Town.

Yes you barely scratched the surface. It's very easy for the entire world to point out what the white South Africans did and how wrong it was. I was born in Cape Town and raised to respect everyone equally, yet I get called "Boer". This is a racist term from black people towards white South African's and reverse racism is VERY MUCH a thing even though I was thrown in the middle of white vs black then black vs white NEVER being for or against any race. The international community gets fed all this BS of how wrong everything was. But how wrong everything is right now... That only we know as we constantly experience it

You can't find something that is already occupied South Africa is the only African country where slaves were imported and not exported as the natives could not be enslaved Indians in Durban for the sugar canes by the British and Malays and west Africans on the horn of the Cape by the Dutch pushing the strandlopers to the north British with the discovery of resources and gems introduced the only mass concentration camps same style as the Germans on the Dutch settlers so Cape town and South Africa has always been in gripped with greed hence it is still a continuation today ..... there is so much more to this City

You only showed the richest part of Cape Town where the millionaires live, where its clean and neat. Yet the majority of Cape Town is littered with filthy townships where people don't clean up after themselves and leave everything a mess and pig sty.
