Great morning spent at Keighley Station on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Diesel Gala. First time at this location !! Wasn’t disappointed either
Credit to the railway for putting on such a organized timetable & event 👍
Loco’s in the footage during the morning
37250
Class 37 locomotives were built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry and Robert Stephenson at Hawthorns. Known as the English Electric Class 3, or ‘tractors’ to enthusiasts, they were ordered as part of the modernisation plan of British Rail, numbered in two series’ D6600-6608 and D6700-6999. 309 Class 37s were built between 1960 - 1965, lno prototype. The bodywork of Class 37s has large resemblances to Class 40s and Class 23s. Currently, 35 are preserved, 66 are still in service, one has been rebuilt as a class 23, and the rest have been scrapped.
37 250 will debut its new EWS livery at The Diesel Gala. It was released from the English Electric Vulcan Foundry on 10 December 1964 as D6950.
D1015
Built at Swindon Works between 1961-1964, 74 Class 52 locomotives were produced for the Western Region of British Rail. 52s were given two-worded names, the first being ‘Western’; therefore, they were known as the ‘Wizzos and Thousands’. While they were under construction, proposals for names and liveries were prepared by the BR design panel. It was originally decided that the engines were to be named after places in the West of England, however they were named with general heraldic and regimental terms, prefixed with ‘Western’. The locos were withdrawn from service in 1977. Of the 74 built, seven survive through preservation.
D1015 construction was completed in January 1963. It entered service in the unique golden ochre livery and was allocated to Cardiff in January 1965. Western Champion was rostered to haul Sir Winston Churchill’s funeral train, returning mourners from Hanborough station near Oxford to Paddington.
‘Western Champion’ successfully returned to the main line on February 23rd 2002, working Pathfinders’ ‘Western Pathfinder’ tour from Paddington to Gloucester via Bristol and returning to Paddington. It’s currently the only Western class 52 certified for main-line operation and was used on the first Western-hauled passenger train from Paddington for many years in April 2024!
50021
English Electric built 50 class 50 diesel locomotives at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-Le-Willows between 1967 and 1968. Prior to refurbishment, the class gained the nickname ‘Hoover’ due to the noise from the No.2 end clean air plant. The type-4 diesel locomotive has a gross power output of at least 2,500 hp. The class 50s were numbered D400-449 and later 50001-50050. 18 are currently preserved, the rest scrapped.
Ex- BR Class 50 diesel locomotive 50021 ‘Rodney’ (aka Delboy or Dave) was withdrawn from services in 1989 and saved from scrap by purchase from Stratford Depot by the 500021 Locomotive Association. Its first preservation run was in 1992 at the G&WR before moving to Bo’ness Railway, where it suffered a serious ETH generator failure in 1999. Since then, it has been stored at Tyseley Depot in the West Midlands. In July 2014, the loco was sold to new owners and since then has been under restoration at Eastleigh Works.
69009
Progress Rail converted Class 69 locomotives from Class 56 locomotives at their workshop in Longport. This development was to fulfil the needs of their operators, GB Railfreight (GBRf), which could not purchase additional Class 66s. The converted locomotives had a full overhaul, a redesigned cab, and a brand-new Diesel Engine.
When GBRf announced they would be rebuilt in 2019, the scheme consisted of replacement engines, newer electric control systems based on current class 66s, alterations to air intakes and exhausts, and modified external lighting to comply with standards. They are now numbered 69001-016 in various liveries.
50008
English Electric built 50 class 50 diesel locomotives at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-Le-Willows between 1967 and 1968. Prior to refurbishment, the class gained the nickname ‘Hoover’ due to the noise from the No.2 end clean air plant. The type-4 diesel locomotive has a gross power output of at least 2,500 hp. The class 50s were numbered D400-449 and later 50001-50050. 18 are currently preserved, the rest scrapped.
50 008, previously numbered D408, is currently owned by Hanson & Hall Rail Solution, and returned to mainline duties in June 2021.
D9520
January 1963, British Rail originally ordered 26 Class 14 locomotives to be built the following year at Swindon Works. The locos were anticipated for yard work, shunting and short-distance freight trains, so in mid-1963, the order total was upped to 56 before work began. Numbered from D9500-9555, the engines gained the nickname ‘Teddy Bear’ following a comment from shop foreman George Cole “We’ve built The Great Bear, now we’re going to build a Teddy Bear!” Referring to the GWR steam locomotive also built at Swindon.
