Our Discover your Clarington journey now takes us to the jewel of Durham Region skiing, Brimacombe. Located at 4098 Regional Road 9 in Orono, a short four kilometers from the 407 and 115 interchange. Brimacombe is one of Southern Ontario's largest public ski and snowboard areas with 23 runs total, 11 lit at night, and two terrain parks. More than 125,000 skiers and snowboarders flock to the Municipality of Clarington each year to enjoy day and evening action.
The original Oshawa Ski Club started using the site in the 1940s and officially made this home in 1954. Originally the hill was known as "Brimacombe's Hill" and the Oshawa Ski Club renamed itself Brimacombe again in 2009. The venue offers many options for skiers to experience - including two chalets with cafes, a retail ski store, rental services, ski instruction, terrain park and snow cross.
There are four quad chair lifts and two t-bars to provide ample lift services for the patrons. The property is located within the Oak Ridge's Moraine, an ecologically important landform unique for rolling hills and river valleys. The site sprawls over 60 acres and provides skiers with a 300 foot vertical drop from peak to bottom. A man-made reservoir at the base of the hill provides ample water for its elaborate snow making system. Several groomers can be seen early each morning preparing its patrons with perfect ski conditions
Brimacombe is a non-for-profit organization and while open to the public, has approximately 3,000 active members - many families have been skiing here for generations. Little known fact about Brimacombe is that it also operates in the summer, only as a kid's summer camp.
