That's a proper reaction - showing the original and then Zep's studio and live version. Whilst their studio music is incredible, their live work is epic!

Great idea to play the live version too. I saw them 7 days after that performance in Sheffield and I think you might be right in thinking that it was part of the encore. Pretty sure the final song was 'Whole Lotta Love'. Fortunately they opened the show on time - some bands I saw were so late starting that we missed the last bus home which meant a 12 mile walk! But we were young! The last time I saw them was at Earls Court in 1975 and the difference in sound quality and mixing was amazing. I sort of missed the 'raw' quality of the early gigs though.

Not sure if it’s been answered here ~ The reason for the “stills” wasn’t an editorial decision ~ Rather, it was out of necessity. This concert sat in a vault for many decades & when found the only remaining film was almost to degraded to be saved. The film had to be “baked” in low- temperature oven’s as a last resort to salvage the film. They had amazing success but for a few places where you see the stills which is where the best restoration methods were not able to salvage those frames in particular. - Cheers & I hope this helps. Cheers & Thank you for the reaction. 🇮🇸

KZfaqr Carl Baldassarre said recently what made Zeppelin so great is that live every member of band played for the now. It meant every performance was unique as the band feed off each other and the audience. They could do this without losing the song. Bring It On Home here is still Bring It On Home despite changed lyrics, up tempo intro, a different structure, fewer instruments (one, not three guitars) and all sorts of things happening in the rhythm section. No other band was able to improvise like Zeppelin and still remain so cohesive. As for the stills, this show was shot of film, naturally, and by the time it was rediscovered and digitised, some of it had deteriorated beyond saving. The sound track was still there but required a lot of work to bring it up to the standard we hear today. I saw Zeppelin once, outdoors. Plant's voice live was sensational. In some ways better than in the studio because of his improvisation. See, when the band played for the now, the audience was an essential part of that now.

Thank you, great review. I love the contrast of the two versions. Royal Albert Hall 1970 is a great concert. My favourite footage is from 1969 Danmarks Radio, but there is a great 1969 Promo (Communication Breakdown Promo). They put their all into the performance and the French audience doesn’t know what hit them.

Hey rockers! Love the reviews and muting the comments while the songs are grooving. Also, thanks for keeping your out volume loud, I can always turn down my volume but it sucks when 10 on my volume is too soft on a playback here. Peace & Love, Zeppers! Later.

Gotta love the mastery on the harmonica. Very few musicians can do it and make it work. (J Geils comes to mind) I saw them at Pontiac Silverdome in 1977. I was 21 and nearly suffocated on the 40 yard line of festival seating. One of my best Rock moments of my life. I also saw Heart and Peter Frampton there.... And felt much safer! I also saw J Geils at COBO Hall and Pine Knob. Ahhh! Rock!!!

Enjoyed this reaction a lot. Since most of the songs they performed during the 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert were tracks from albums 1 and 2, it might be cool to go back and react to the entire concert before moving on to album 3. It was a fabulous from start to finish so I think you'd really enjoy it. If an entire concert reaction seems too much for one reaction, maybe a couple of songs at a time. Just an idea. :)

That was pretty groovy( do I sound like a child of the 2960’s??!!). Great idea to react to studio then live versions. Looks like Dev is converted already. Looking forward very much to your reactions to LZ3, for which there are a couple of outstanding videos of live performances of two songs. You’ll see what I mean when you check them out. Thanks again.

Some unpacking here...1st, really appreciate your live/studio/cover Zep comparisons - gives perspective relating to this great band....2nd, had to comment on this one; let's be honest, I luv LZ, but the intro was completely lifted from SBW (maybe recent copies include SBW as contributor?) - the rest is, of course, classic LZ stuff....3rd, I prefer the recorded version of this compared to the RAH version (not the case for just about everything else in that monumental show - save WLL)...thx & keep the comparisons going....

the 1st track on zep kicks your head in! but they have alot of folk on the album too and it had mixed reviews when released. the centre section of sibly, out on the tiles and gallows pole is simply SUBLIME!

You are now moving on to Led Zeppelin 3 and can I please implore you to play both studio and live versions of Immigrant Song at the same time ,the studio version is pretty intense but short and the live version is also intense and quite a bit longer with a great Guitar solo and Bonham's drumming dominates from start to finish.

Doh!!! I always thought that was something like a 1930's blues they were paying homage to, not contemporaries. Interesting. Also, good to see that even from the very beginning their live performances were an 'interesting' chaotic mess -- studio versions for me, please .... :-)
