I recently bought from Uad both compressors (1176, dbx160). I have combined them with the eq pultec passive eq collection which sounds nice on the snare (pultec with 1176). the dbx sounds better on the kick. On the toms I still struggle to find the right setting to achieve the result I want!

I'm interested in hearing the toms (10,12) and floor toms (toms) bright like maple toms! Is there any setting for the pultec so that such a sound can be successfully output from the toms?

@@giannispan8129 Try cutting the frequency of the toms at around 200hz by a few dB and boosting the frequency at around 4khz and 8khz by a few dB. See if that helps. :)

Why are your meters clipping on the main and the overload lite red your channels look pretty hot are you not hearing any distortion, retry this with your channels peaking around -12 for starters do you gain stage or just use your ears , I don’t go over -12 on my drum buss always works for me with all other elements mixed in going to the main buss to achieve closer to -6 on the main buss for headroom on plugins on the main master buss. Like your groove and feel

Hi! Thanks for the compliment and your question. I always trust what I'm hearing rather than what the meters are telling me. I'm not exactly sure why it's not distorting when it says it should be but it sounds great to my ear. It might have something to do with LUNA. When I was working with another DAW I would have to make sure nothing was clipping in order to get a good sound. Not the case with LUNA. I used to gain stage. These days I just trust what I'm hearing. :)

@@RecordingDrumsWithBrad I use on kick, toms dbx160uad. 1176 uad in snare hh, ride crash. Along with api channel strip eq on all drums separately and a bit of pultec

I would like to ask you about mixing drums with pultec passive eq collection, is the dbx160 or the uad1176 compressor more suitable? Which of the two compressors would you recommend?

To me they are completely different animals with different purposes. I use both of them. The dbx160 is the latest addition to my collection of compressors so I'm still getting used to what it can do. What I've experienced with it so far I really like. It's really simple to use and it gives the track life, energy, warmth, and if you really crank it, attitude! The 1176 is the fastest compressor I've ever owned. You can really shape the sound of your kit using just an 1176 on each individual drum. Choosing between the two compressors is really difficult. I think you just inspired a comparison video! Look for it soon! :)
