Mate that's awesome. Be thankful, it could be a club astir with the fixed undercarriage :) The reality is, it's not how big the glide ratio is, but where you point it that matters. And think of the handicap!

Our club had an Astir, when i was new to gliding, i tried to set the altimeter to QFE for a friend that was preparing for a cross country flight. I broke the set screw clean off of the strange russian instrument. needless to say, he was verry happy to be spared of flying the "Arschtier", so happy that he started swearing in polish and the only thing i kept hearing was KURVA EMILIO KUUUUURVA xD Nice memorys.

Glideratio 40 at 500m and it glides 70km. The Astir magic beats the system once again!

He he the old Astir. So rigid that it was not uncommon to become bruised when flown in agressive thermals. Either it was the undercarriage or one of the body struts that had an awful tendency to fracture due to all these extreme forces that traveled through the plane. None the less, it has a certain place in my hearth as it was my first single seater glass fiber glider after i got my certificate those many years ago.

Emil, if you had to choose between meme gliders: PW-5, Grob Astir or Ask-23, which one would you choose?

Having seen the PW-5, flown the K23 against wind and competed in an Astir - then my choice would land on a Grunau Baby

The ask23 is great for schooling and bad thermals because you can fly her with 60kmh so...jea, ans she is impossibal to spin an even stall realy so i realy like her for schooling

In our club we have an AstirCS, Std.Astir2, TwinAstir and our ASW15 barely gets flown. Stick forces are pretty high. Beyond 120kph the polar gets pretty steep. Did you use the space inside to rig some cameras?

I did indeed use the space for a GoPro, but that doesn't take up much anyways
