Behold, the SB2C Helldiver. This plane is classified as a bomber in War Thunder but much like its older brother the SBD Dauntless, the Helldiver also doubles up as a surprisingly effective fighter as well. Today we are bringing Democracy to the servers of Air Realistic battles...

You know the physics model is completely broken when this stuff is a more effective fighter than fighters that spearheaded the most powerful airforces of the Second World War

It makes sense though, this thing has MASSIVE lift. However it is so slow that you can’t dodge enemy fire unless you have space to dive. Also the rudder is pretty janky.

As I recall pilot's reported that at speed they pulled well enough to put up a fight, the problem was they weren't usually the ones in a high energy state when they met fighters cause of their actual role, but that didn't stop a couple of guys getting a number of kills on zeros

I also Dogfought a Spitfire Mk IX in my SB2C-4 the other day. I won. The thing turns like crazy. With a better engine, it could very well have been a fighter, if not for the 1000+ problems it had already been suffering from.

The D5 Stuka with the 4×20mm gunpods used to be my favourite for cleaning up bombers, 6 MG151's just demolished everything in their path and it handled well enough for some dogfighting. The Japanese B7A2 and premium US BTD also used to be a lot of fun just with their dual 20mm's, the B7 especially was a dogfighting monster. Haven't played in years though but remembering times like that sometimes make me want to reinstall lol

@@WeBeStronk noooooooooooooooooo Atleast I still have good memories of the old days then I guess, don't want to scratch my rose-tinted glasses just yet lol Do you know if the B7A2 and BTD got their turn rate nerfed too? I seriously hope the B7 didn't get the nerf bat as that was my favourite rank 3 Japanese fighter until they added the KI-100.

I loved the SB2C-4 with the gunpods, when they compressed the ranks and forced it into rank 2 i cried. Although they did make the PV2D rank 3 I still pour one out for a lost rank 3 bomber that was excellent for the 70 ground kills, 8 attacker kills, and 8 bomber kills task this thing made easy

B7A2, and especially the B7A2 Homare 23 are like this but better. You're normally right above the enemy and further ahead than SB2Cs, and if you cut throttle you can sneak up on fighters and clean them up with your 20mms (Some of the best 20mms in the game too! Type 99 2's have great velocity and explosive mass, with an easy to use all HEF-T belt)

Something that I learned by playing the Helldivers before getting the B7A2 is messing around with the spoilers during fights, and it has paid it's results

love the vids my guy, do you use a sound mod or is it all done in editing if its a sound mod please link it as it sounds so much better than normal sounds also please play the p51-h or f2g if you havent done so yet. Keep up the awesome work.

I personally think that thing is ass. Its an Allison mustang at 3.7, when it should honestly be about the same BR as the other Allison stang (The A-36 Apache)

How to keep plane orientation when you go to gunners? When I hit the gunner view mine tries to stay level aggresively.

It's an option in the settings you can turn off something like 'gunner level in flight'
