This was really AWESOME to watch. I grew up in Holland Park , and I was only a young kid when the SE Freeway was built. But I remember when the homes in the path of the Freeway , were removed at Holland Park West & Ekibin, As I watch this now in 2024 it's mind blowing to see the work conditions . No WHS back in 1969. And what about all the construction workers - shirtless - slaving away under the hot Brisbane sun. Well done gentleman , for a job very very well done

The Riverside Expressway is one of the greatest examples of incompetent civil planning of Brisbane.

I wonder if there's any info regarding alternatives that were considered at the time? Kinda funny how they simply remove it from the Queens Wharf visualisation at around the 35 second mark in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gKyCjNNz0Nq2qZs.html

I’d like to see it pulled down, replace it with a tunnel and reduce the city CBD access and egress, no need for funnelling the traffic through the CBD. If the queens wharf think some waterfalls is going to block the road noise then they are in for a shock, replacing noise with noise won’t work

@@brynsmith414 I often make jokes about how they covered up the railway noise with a road where I live. It would be a magnificent idea to get rid of the expressway but I think rather than removing the bridge it would be much more beneficial to replace the roadway with an active and public transport corridor

No difference to your generation dozing out thousands of acres of farmland and replacing with unsightly wind turbines and solar panel's, actually.

@@jeremywilsongamesI can see your another transit person totally out of touch with peoples needs. The people using the car are not likely to magically transfer to public transport just because you’re in love with it. Linear point to point public transport isn’t what this road is about.

The newly opened concrete Victoria Bridge, and the old iron one next to it being demolished. And now it is closed to traffic. A PITA, I have to go to the William Jolly Bridge to access South Bank.

It serves its purpose, but I doubt it would be constructed today. The river is a tremendous resource and attraction for the city, and shouldn't be hidden behind a motorway.
