The Shuttleworth engineers have been working hard on our 1917 Bristol F2b Fighter during its winter maintenance programme, which has seen the aircraft undertake a series of engine runs. The aircraft is powered by an original Rolls Royce Falcon V12 engine - the oldest working Rolls Royce aero engine anywhere in the world.
With work taking place fine-tuning the Falcon’s carburettors, the engineers have been running the engine mostly at night to catch a glimpse of the flames coming out of the exhaust ports, and looking at the colour.
Whilst it’s important work for them, it certainly makes for quite the spectacle for the bystander!
The Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire, England is home to a vast array of vintage aircraft, vehicles, as well as agricultural machinery. The Collection hosts a series of flying days from May to October each year, and is open to the public on non-flying days as well.
