Do not feel bad for Sierra Halseth at all. She entirely made up the story about being abused by her father (Daniel), which was proven during the trial. According to the warrant, Aaron (aged 18) and Sierra (aged 16) had discussed running away together to Los Angeles, leading their parents to forbid them from seeing each other. Detectives interviewed Halseth's ex-wife, who said they (Sierra's parents) had joint bank accounts to pay off shared debt, according to the warrant. She told police she noticed several unusual withdrawals from their accounts on April 8 and tried to contact Daniel to no avail. Officers searched the home and found blood on a knife and handsaw, along with what appeared to be an attempt to clean up the kitchen. Detectives reviewed surveillance video from a hardware store and saw Guerrero buying a saw, lighter fluid, and disposable gloves, while the 16-year-old was seen at a grocery store buying bleach. No, they planned the murder and then took her parent's money to pay for their trip. I think they gave them the possibility of parole due to their ages at the time that the crime was committed.

For the Halseth case, it’s worth noting that only Sierra ever brought up her father being anything short of a good dad. The two older kids denied her claims of abuse. Plus, even a kid who’s been abused wouldn’t be gloating about the killing a day later on social media. They’d be traumatized about killing their parent and likely go to authorities (or the mother and step father in this case, though those two are a real piece of work), even in self defense.

There's a lack of actual spanking your butt, when you do something wrong epidemic. God made the perfect place to spank and that's the butt because it hurts but it's cushioned. I mean people spank each other during sex as a way of pleasure, well when you are a child and receive that kind of spanking, you learn a valuable lesson, TO NOT DO IT AGAIN! And it doesn't even have to be a full on 10 licks, just two or three will get you to stop doing stupid shit. Just a couple of good licks to just let them know, hey, you do this, you get a punishment. This world has become so soft as far as spanking goes, particularly America, has become so soft on the issue of spanking it's sickening and the lack of it is causing the younger generations to act out. If you can't discipline them early, they are going to have NO RESPECT for any kind of authority when they get older. People think spanking is abuse. Look up what spanking is and what abuse is.

In the second case he was a minor at the time of the crime. The United States Supreme Court has decreed that it is unconstitutional to sentence a minor to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The court must give the minor the possibility of getting out of jail upon proof of rehabilitation. It does not guarantee that you will be released just that there is the possibility if you can demonstrate regret and rehabilitation.

Kabir, my siblings and I grew up into a toxic family . Our case was so complex that we went before the High Courts. None of us killed anyone and we had abuse, SA, and were bullied at the children’s home because we spoke so posh and our father visited us in Saturday and mother on Sunday. My father was BiPolar1 and my mother was a narcissist with borderline personality complex. We stayed together and survived. It’s not been easy as we all carry baggage, but we never even thought of killing our parents. It never even crossed our minds. We just wanted to see our father on Saturday and our mother on Sunday.

Hi Kabir, some real scumbags here. Some people don't have to ability to feel guilt or remorse. They have no conscience. Fortunately, most of these people aren't murderers. They are wired differently, but is that a defense against their crimes? No! They understand perfectly what they are doing is wrong and know what the consequences are. They just don't give a damn, they can't. Society needs to be protected from them though. A few of these had mental illnesses that needed to be addressed, but they still need to be held accountable at some level, along with treatment and supervision. Prison doesn't usually do much to rehabilitate the inmates. At least in Texas, they seem to have recognized this. They changed the name of the prison system from Texas Department of Corrections to Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I was surprised that most of these people got off as easy as they did.

Your emotional empathy is probably higher than your logical empathy. That just means that while logically you comprehend the empathy and why it's there, your emotional state is elevated, making it harder to process. I absolutely enjoy your reactions to your videos. As for this reaction, specifically, I want to say a couple of things. First off, I am 40 years old. I received my bachelor's degree in Victim Studies in 2020 and my master's degree in Experimental Psychology this past August (2023). My main interest is the origins and development of psychopathic traits in sexually violent offenders as well as the association between our inner monologue (inner voice) and consciousness (state of awareness) and conscience (telling right from wrong). There is extensive peer reviewed research on the development of psychopathic traits, which points more towards the "nurture" part of the debate (meaning environmental factors). With the advancements in genetics over the past several years, I can see the possibility of being able to identify mutations in the genetic information (codes) that could be associated with the development of psychopathic traits. This is the "nature" part of the debate. I want to add that someone cannot be diagnosed with being a psychopath per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fifth Edition (DSM-V). The closest identified disorder is Antisocial Personality Disorder. Although there is no excuse for why these kids did what they did, this is a slippery slope to go down. The complexity surrounding their actions is vast. I believe that the human brain is the most complex organism in the known universe. With the human brain having more than 100 billion neurons to go along with roughly 15,000 connections to each neuron, this is why the brain is so complex. In regards to these teens and kids committing these horrific crimes, their brains are nowhere close to being completely developed, hindering their ability, in many ways, to completely understand what they did and the consequences surrounding their actions. I am in no way giving excuses. Like I said, these topics are not so cut and dry. I want to open up discussions about what you think as well as others who visit your reactions. Now, in terms of pedophilia, at least in America, pedophilia is not illegal. Pedophilia is a mental disorder where a person has sexual thoughts and feelings for a child/adolescent. With that being said, you cannot be arrested for your thoughts. Now, once the person crosses the line from sexual thoughts of the child or adolescent to physically acting out their thoughts, that is where it becomes criminal (molestation). What are your thoughts on this topic? Thank you for your reactions. I enjoy your inputs because they show me how similar the UK is to America as well as the differences. Great job!!!

It’s a very conservative, affluent area, where things like this just don’t happen. Ever. I was an upperclassman in high school, so I didn’t know him personally, but to hear that someone I probably walked by in the hallway was capable of something like that hit so deeply. 💔 These are all so tragic.

In 2006, in the City of Medicine Hat Alberta 12 year old Jasmine Richardson met 23 year old Jeremy Steinke and started dating each other. Obviously her parents disapproved of the relationship and grounded her. She and Jeremy decided to get revenge on her parents by killing them and her brother. Because she was under the age of 14 and couldn't be tried as an adult, she could only receive the maximum sentence of 10 years. Jeremy was sentenced to 3 life sentences, one for each for first-degree murder count. The sentences are being served concurrently. He will be eligible for parole in after serving 25 years.

Concurrent sentences means the sentences will run together into the combined years but with good behavior it could get reduced. Depending on the person. This concurrent sentence is usually part of a plea deal where they spill information for a lighter sentence. It’s not always done as they might not have information but it’s sometimes worth trying. The district attorney is the only person who can offer it though which is handed to the judge who will either approve the deal or toss it out to try again or go for the maximum.

There’s been a lot of work done in the field of psychopathy. They’ve identified the brain structures that are tied to it, but there is ongoing work on determining how a non-violent psychopath becomes violent. Interestingly, psychopaths are very common in high-level performance areas - elite athletes, CEOs, and high-level politicians. Personally, I am strongly opposed to the death penalty, because of how the threat of it is used to strong-arm deals for lower level crimes and many possibly innocent defendants.

I would say first, people getting married, take your vows seriously, if you want children, they need to commit to raise a child and devote their lives to the child. Parents need to lock up their guns. If a kid is a hunter and goes out with his parent, teach gun safety, but once home, lock up the gun until the next trip. Talk to your children starting from young, the value of life and do not neglect them. If there is a dispute, maybe a third party can help. Parents keep any eye on their children. Parents can be buddies with the children, but they have to explain what was done wrong and set rules and punishment. Killers usually start by how they treat animals, etc.... Any signs of disturbance, get help for your child. Family therapy. Parents listen to your child and find solutions. Understanding compromise with both parent and child. Do not neglect your child, you wanted kids, it is your responsibility to care and teach your kids, so they become good citizens/future for them. In the future this cycle continues, maybe we will rid the problems of children hurting themselves and others and other crimes. Know who your child is friends with and their parents and know your own friends that have the same values if you left your child with them. If your kid does have a friend that seems neglected, be a mentor and talk and help the kid. Hopefully, the extra kid will not take away financially and attention away from your own family if you include them to have dinner together, sleepovers, trips, etc... Parents be honest for the safety of your kid and others, if you cannot handle the problem, turn your kids in for mental help and/or if they committed a crime no matter how small since the problem can lead up to something more serious in the future if the kids keeps getting away with it or parents buy off the victim so they do not press charges against their child. Depending on the whole story of a crime, kids need to serve their time for their crime. To me, amount of time is complicated. Your child takes a life away, the victim's family lost that member forever and find out later the brutality their child/loved one experience before and after death. Have compassion for the family of the victim especially during the trial since it is your child is the reason that all are in the court. A child who gets parole after many years, might get out in their 40's-50's and have a life to live outside of prison. For a man, he can find love and have children, which the victim will not. The criminal family gets to see the person in jail, communicate, and be there when they come out. That is when I have confusion or have a problem with. Hopefully the kid finishes school, learns a trade, understand what they did and how they can help/improve others that might follow in your footsteps. Also, a child that uses the defense of being neglected, abuse, etc...by their parents/family, their parent needs a form of punishment too.

Most people don’t know that it is extremely difficult to give anyone under the age of 18 a definitive diagnosis of any severe mental illness, ex bipolar, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, etc. They can be diagnosed (usually after having partaken in some sort of violent action) with attachment disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or the other most common diagnosis I’ve seen is a form of delusional disorder. Having extensive work history in juvenile and adult corrections as well as work history in purely mental health settings, what I have seen when I was with them is this expression of blankness. From a 13 year old SA perpetrator to a 14 year old life ending individual, many just have this void when you see them. So when I see the ones crying and looking remorseful, I see someone who knows what they did was awful and wrong because the truly psychotic ones won’t.

Unfortunately the law is very clear on certain things. You can’t technically kill a person who is mentally ill. There’s always arguments about it. Each killer in court has to undergo a mandatory pysch evaluation to see if they can actually stand trial. This is through the police or state. If they are deemed mentally unstable to stand then a judge must make a determination on what to do. Usually these people are sent to the state run mental institution or nearest mental health facility under heavy guard until they can actually stand trial. There’s always arguments for and against this. New York City their mental health facility is actually run by Bellevue hospital which has a prison ward for the mentally incapacitated or incompetent. Sometimes they get the odd case of tumors or something happening to the brain which is sussed out and treated over time. I’ve heard of a case of lead poisoning badly effecting the brain and in aggressiveness brought on by this hurt someone accidentally. The judge sent the guy to the mental facility to be treated but can’t face trial because the damage is extensive for now but the judge checks once a month to keep on the progress.

I went to high school back in 1977 with a guy who ended up murdering his mother, father and little brother. I hung out with him for a few days in Summer before junior year while we were taking driver's education. He seemed like a normal kid, very into playing baseball. A few months later, he shot his father and then stabbed his mother to death. His little brother was trying to get out the door when Jimmy caught him and stabbed him something like 22 times. He was found guilty and was (I think) the first juvenile to be tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the State of Illinois. A few years ago, out of interest I looked him up and he's of course still in prison. It's amazing to me to think of how long my life has been since then and that he's been in prison the entire time.

Concurrent sentences mean they run at the same time so a 10 year sentence concurrent with a five year sentence means a 10 year sentence. In order for it to be 15 they would have to be consecutive.

The reason is that they are not adults yet. I think they should get the maximum time ... life. Some states will sentence them to how ever long it will take for them to reach adulthood and resentence them.

The possibility of parole is just that: a possibility. It rests entirely on the person's behavior while imprisoned. If their behavior in prison is not exemplary, then parole can be denied. Sentencing on multiple charhrs can be concurrent (atvthe same time) or consecutive (added together). The guy whobgotbthe concurrent sentences got off easy; I guess they took his autism.into account.

I think we focus too much on punishment and almost not at all on rehabilitation due to our thirst for vengeance. What is putting someone in prison for 60 years going to accomplish? I'm also not a fan of these life sentences considering how many people are falsely imprisoned. An eye for an eye may have worked for Hammurabi but I'd like to think we've made progress in thousands of years.

Kabir, what it seems to me is that some of these kids don't have the skills needed to get buy in life without being detracted by others. I believe that parents really need to hammer home what kids need to learn early in life, and what the repercussions are to steer well clear of "trouble". This obviously is true in all cases, but, it amazes me how much antisocial behavior gets out of hand so often.

There are demonic forces at large in the world, but the astonishing thing is demonic influences aren't even needed in some cases. The truth is, as I've said before, ''Evil does what Evil does, because Evil is what Evil is and Evil is what Evil is because Evil does what Evil does.''

The first two killing her dad... I haven't read anything about her father actually being a pedo' or drug abuser. Her mother was an ex' state senator that quit after her first year, in order to take care of her daughter. The father had told the daughter to break up with the boyfriend, so I'm guessing there was probably some problems with the kids to begin.

I don't think ANY kids should get life sentences. It's disgusting. Of course it's disgusting to commit murder-- that's not even a dispute. At the same time, you don't throw kids away. They can always change.

DONT WORRY! The kid who killed his whole family Won't get parole after 30 years... that's just the first time he will Ever be eligible for a parole Hearing... The parole board will Not grant him parole. He will probably Never get parole, and if he does, it wont be until he is in his mid 70's, and even that's ONLY if he doesn't get into trouble behind bars(which he 100% will)... this guy will never leave prison unless it's in a body bag.
