In March the UK is set to start rolling out their new blue passports. These new design passports hark back to 1921 blue passports Britain held until the 80s when the colour changed to burgundy to unify with other EU nations. In this video we tell you all you need to know about the new blue passports and answer your questions from Instagram.

@@VentureHolly *Jewels Star* is correct, you are not. Anyone who needs a visa to travel _in addition to their passport_ has less freedom to travel than someone who does not require a visa of any sort. Currently it is though likely that, from January 2021, British passport holders will be able to travel in the Schengen Zone _without_ a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period. EU passport holders are free to travel in the Schengen Zone (and Ireland) for 365/6 days in any calendar year. If you need to get a visa you are not as free to travel as someone who doesn't require one - because _all_ visas come with restrictions.

How so by the sound of things it will continue to ask on behalf of the queen (though she's probably asking for the government) that you be allowed through and the answer will depend on the politics and probably finance (do they really want to tell that many english tourist to go do one for example).
@obscureinception8302
@obscureinception8302 4 жыл бұрын
@@cardboardbox191 The queen has nothing to do with it, and ordinary tourist travel from the UK to the EU are unlikely to be affected because there will almost certainly be an agreement that allows visa free travel for tourists travelling for only a few weeks. The people who will be affected will be those who want to travel for extended periods (e.g. students traveling on a gap year, people travelling after retiring, etc.) and anyone who would like to move to a country in Europe to work or too live when they retire. Last year a British passport was all that any of these people needed. In future they will need to apply for visas/work permits, and meet whatever requirements might be set, in addition to having a British passport. It really isn't difficult to understand that the British passport no longer allows the same freedom to travel as it did while the UK was a member of the EU.

There are many advantages like free trade, freedom to travel, freedom to work and live anywhere in the Union, and many more. There are some disadvantages such as sticking to common standards. @Jewels Star is it any surprise the Brit's pulled the self destruct button. They have fought wars (with themselves!!!!!) for centuries. When they got tired of this they fought with the world, then they finally came to their sense, by helping to liberate Europe. Now they're at it again. Trying to fight the world and themselves on two fronts. Madness.

@Jewels Star but it's not like the English to care about anyone but themselves. Unfortunately it's their history to drag others into it. TBH I don't worry for Ireland. The EU will not let this project go and will defend it. They will do everything that's possible to protect the most vulnerable states out of this. The flight of capital from the UK is landing in Dublin Luxembourg and Frankfurt. So don't worry. 😉

I agree. 99.5% of economists think Brexit will make us all poorer, especially those who spend most of their income on food and daily living. When people find that Brexit has made their life harder, they'll want change, but the only substantial change possible to rectify the Brexit impacts will be either to seek closer ties with Europe (perhaps join EFTA) or, for Northern Ireland and Scotland, seek to leave the UK. After the Brexit fiasco, politicians will be wary of promoting a full "re-join EU" position for many years, so break up of the UK looks like the probable outcome.

I had one of the original "classic" passports. I kept it as a memento after it expired and still have it. It is quite definitely black, not blue - not even dark blue, simply black. In the pictures I've seen with gold letters on the front it's the same colour as my final issue 1988 passport - black for the sake of argument, but there is a slight hint of blue, "midnight blue' perhaps. Lighting plays a huge part in how things appear, remember that photo of the dress that the room lighting and camera managed to change the colour of? Until we can see it photographed against a background of a known colour, maybe a union flag that can be corrected for white balance we can't judge the colour properly.

The contract to supply the new passports was signed before the UK voted to leave the EU. A new design was due at this time anyway, whether we left or stayed. After they're out, they won't be able to blame the EU anymore, so in a couple pf years they will like it again. Btw the best solution to the whole EU-Northern Ireland question in my opinion would just be to give it (back) to Ireland, under the condition that they treat the local Protestants well, which probably wouldn't be too hard. I'm glad that my current passport will still be valid but if travel restrictions or extra rules for travel between the two start appearing (which has a pretty high likelihood), they can stick their blue passport up their arse. If that happens, I'll just cash in on my Irishness and get a Republic of Ireland passport instead when my current one runs out (I'm fully entitled to either a British or Irish one). There's no point changing right now as I still have several years left on my current passport so I'll hold off for now and make my decision when this one expires.

Also there was a little °c to °f conversation printed on the stamp pages gone now. Also on the main ID Page the photo is monochrome now with a colour photo on the observations page, undesired about the compass design that is on most pages. I feel like if they had the artwork like the past instead of the new one with the flower watermarks. Small amounts of hidden uv ink printing and purple writing on the plastic component glows under the uv light. Hello There, great video throughout, thank you for producing this video. It's really informative, particularly being able to see the differences in formalities etc. Cheers Peter :)

The “iconic blue passport” was the old hard cover version. They did give an odd feeling of superiority when almost every other country's seemed like a cheap Identity document. Shades of “papieren bitte”. The reason for changing to the soft cover version was nothing to do with the EU but a need to standardise travel documents so that electronic scanning equipment could be used. I've just got my new burgundy passport but unfortunately without the words “European Union”
