"What can I say so you won't be angry?" Even in fairy tales women know that rejecting a man's advances can be dangerous, be they with beastly behavior or beastly looks.

"Remember that things are not always as they seem. Like the rose that brought you to me, it is beautiful to look at but it's thorns are painful to touch." The quote. The hurt in his voice. The music. The animation. Aesthetic at it's finest. Perfection.

This Beauty and The Beast segment traumatized me as a child. They really did a good job at making this so gloomy and terrifying.

Thumbs up if you are here because of Phelous.

This is kind of how I pictured a Tim Burton retelling of The Beauty and the Beast to be like.

For such a rushed and shabby retelling, I gotta say they at least had a unique and strangely appealing take on the Beast.

I love this rendition of the beast; horrific and grotesque, but a gentle soul, unlike that prat from the Golden Films version...

This is one of the best animated Beauty's Fathers out there! Especially compared to...

I literally just looked for this because of Phelous. But for what it's worth, that Beast would have been nightmare fuel for me as a kid! Looks kinda like a vampire. Looks very much like something that'd come from Tim Burton's mind.

This segment captured my imagination when I was a kid and it still does now. I wish I knew more about the creative process behind it. With its solemn Beauty, abundance of darkness, greyish colors, vivid glowing blues, long stretches of quiet, and its terrifying, alien-looking Beast, it's all rather nightmarish, yet also unique and compelling. The Disney version's understandably better-known, and this one isn't perfect, but it's still very good, especially given its budget and length. I wonder what a higher-budget 20-minute version would've looked like.

The way Pat Morita appeared from his head was the only thing from all Britannica’s Tales Around the World that scared me when I was little. We owned these tapes and threw them in the dumpster years back. We now have the DVDs, but was a big mistake due to lack of Pat Morita’s introduction from every story. Never returned online, which was tough.

I wish someone would upload all the episodes of this nightmare fuel. My cousin who watched me as a baby used to punish me by making me watch the one with the story from the Middle East where the witch is like a demon cat thing. Plus we had a big screen TV back then.
