Those rivets? A slim blade on a multitool sorts them out, with vey little damage to either panel. My new favourite tool.

Great videos Mike, it's discos I have but same tin worm issues. Like the tec screws suggestion, and referencing to good tools, makes difficult and messy work so much easier and a better job. Thanks for sharing your experience, not many on you tube can do this so naturally looking forward to the progression of this mission

I've never had a seat box under the drivers seat and haven't ever noticed. It did make things a LOT easier when I was replacing fuel lines on my 300tdi though!

Hi Mike, I was only recently made aware of your vidoes as I am rebuilding an 88". Somoehat handiliy as I'm about to start putting my tub on and am well impressed about your guides to that and the sills. I'm also considering replacing a side panel in the seatbox and tool box. (thumbs up for YRM). Would you recommend setting the sills up with or without the seatbox in place as they will obviously need unbolting to add the seatbox? Just like to say I have found your videos highly entertaining and extremely informative. Plus your cack handedness makes me proud to be a Yorkshireman too. I'm always knocking my powertools of me workbench :-)

It's 6 and 2 threes to put the sills on - by that I think you mean the C channel sill? Mike
@juliancarter557
@juliancarter557 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes the C channels. As per this video I am about to replace the l/h side panel and tool box first. I've just bolted the tub to the rear xmember. I'll be following your methodology for setting the sills square, then aligning the bulkhead. I asume setting the sill angle is easier with the seatbox out, but then of course the seatbox would need fitting by popping the sill end / tub bolts out. YRM suggest using stainless fittings, but then I read dire warnings from others about adding SS to the Ali / steel mix as that increases electrolitic corrosion. I will be painting all surfaces before assembly as the sillas are new galv as ar the seatbelt brackets.

I think you can replace the side without removing the seat box - I have done it in the past This will give you room to put your square on I am reluctant to use SS, but I have in the past - zinc plated steel bolts are pretty bad and only last a few years If you use plenty of anti seize and rust proofing to seal out the moisture SS will be OK

Hi there. I enjoy your videos religiously lol. I've moved my battery into a box in the rear of my defender 90 so my question is... when the time when the two empty compartments start to rust below the seats what do I replace the battery/seat boxes with? What would you recommend I purchased to replace them with i.e. is there a galvanized solution or all aluminium option and what is the best if price isn't a factor? Since both boxes are empty and seats are fixed. Do you recommend any modifications I could do to further weather proof the whole seat/battery box assembly underneath? Also I'm guessing those two cavitys dont do much to reduce the ambient sound in a running defender so I was thinking about maybe lining the inside of the new assembly with dynamat or filling it completely with foam blocks or something to reduce noise. Any thoughts on this? I'm worried about the build up in moisture in them so ways to alleviate that would be helpful. I'm considering sealing the access panel under seats to make it more water/sound tight? Any thoughts would be helpful. Just trying to future proof any potential issues and improve longevity of the vehicle. Thank you so much for your youtube content btw. If you lived in Northern Ireland I would have a million questions and work for you. My father just bought his first defender so your vids are very much appreciated.

Hi there! You should check out YRM on line for some ideas yrmit.co.uk/product-category/land-rover-defender-90/seat-box/ They do some good stuff I have no affiliation with them but I know they do a good product Dynamat is good for sound reduction, But I will let you into a secret - a lot of LR noise is amplified by the roof - put some sound deadening in there and it will make a difference depending on the roof type I would not use foam unless it is closed cell foam, as it can absorb moisture and make a problem worse To be honest you will never make a Defender comfortable for noise - I have seen all sorts of ideas and not much works that well - I have tried loads of stuff and cutting the vibration of large panels helps the most - and you do not need a lot of sound proofing - some people go mad and cover every inch, but think about putting a large sticking plaster on a drum - it will cut the vibration and thus the noise Mike

So reading through the comments I saw where you said the 90 doesn't come with a RH seat/toolbox. Being a new owner I didnt realize this. I thought mine had been removed or was rusted away as my battery box is terrible. It looks like there is plenty of room for one. I plan on pulling everything and replacing the battery box so can I put in a RH seatbox without issues?

Hi Mike. Great Video. Just out of interest the flat chisel you use, if anybody's after getting hold of one check out "hive tool" Thornes sell them over here in the uk. I'm a beekeeper and its what we use to get into hives, they're usually made of stainless steel so very hard. Russ West Yorks
