Good interview. Great as Barry and Des too. As lad I loved Barry the scally in Brookie. I’m sure Paul is gutted to learn of the sad passing of his co actor and no doubt friend Dean Sullivan today.

So sad for Paul losing his son ,first saw him on Eastenders(2019),later on Short late 90s Liverpool 1 along main Actors Samantha Mark Womack and before beginning watching The Bill in 2022.Great Actor.

I met Paul back in 1996 when I worked in the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool he was such a lovely guy 😊

The grief of a parent is something nobody understands until they unfortunately live it. People think grief is the same no matter who we lose and expect a grieving parent will eventually “get over it”, truth is they never will get over it, they will just learn to grow around it. My advice to anyone who experiences a family member, friend or acquaintance who loses a child, don’t ever try to offer grief advice or compare it losing your parent etc, it’s not the same. Best thing to do is say nothing other than “I’m thinking of you” and offer them a hug.

Ive always been looking for a good Paul Usher interview and im so glad to have found this. He was great as Barry on Brookie and Des on the Bill. Im surprised its so hard to find interviews of him because he was a super popular character back in the day. Brookside had the best characters out of all the soaps and the best storylines. Jimmy Corkhill was brilliant as well.

I thought Barry Grant really made Brookside along with Jimmy Corkhill. I loved his friendship with Terry Sullivan as well.

I worked in India for 10 months and when I said I was divorced they treated it like a loss. They didn't understand I was happy about it. Also sex talk would freak them out, even joking about it made then so embarrassed.
