The canal faces closer, but Mother Nature comes to the rescue, with torrential rain after the heatwave. I get close up to one of the UK's tallest birds, a bird that loves stillness and has a lot of patience to catch its next meal! I capture on film a barn owl in flight! Stunning nature and wildlife shots from down on the canal. Join me as swap my narrowboat for the kayak, and paddle along the picturesque canal, experiencing the beauty of nature.
The Journey started here... I once lived in the fast lane of life, happily married of 26 years, with two children. That chapter was suddenly shattered by the sudden loss of my wife to cancer, which led me in to depression and homelessness. Waking up in hospital, after attempting to take my own life, with just a suitcase, kayak and bicycle and no money, I've managed to rise up out of the darkness and find happiness and continue my next chapter.
I'm a self taught film maker, and creating these vlogs, it gives me something to do, share my personal experiences as I continue my journey cruising and living life on the canal. Please do consider supporting my channel below... Thank you Dave

Hi Dave. I saw you for the first time on the Alternative Living channel. I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your wife. I can imagine how very difficult that massive life change was on you. I have been with my husband for 22 years and I just know what it would feel like to loose him. You are very brave and I'm so glad you decided to stay on the planet. Your video's are so peaceful and beautiful. I would love to live a simpler life without as many stresses. Unfortunately the work myself and my husband do require us to .have a fixed abode. Yes, there’s been pain that brought you to the place where you are right now, comfortable in your skin, and in your boat. Pain is a great teacher, and it’s when we experience pain and difficulties that we accelerate our personal growth. But, you know all this. I’ve been a lover of narrow boats since childhood - though I’ve never spent time on one. Sad really. I can now remedy that lack through your beautiful channel - touring the most amazing island in the world on your pretty canal boat. Thanks, mate!

Absoloutely gorgeous scenery. How lucky you were to catch that elusive Barn Owl. We are lucky to live on a farm on marsh land and have three types of owl living right outside our windows, but was just as excited to see a big barn owl swoop right past my lounge window and down across the firlds. Later returning with a mouse or something , perhaps for young. Nature is truly amazing if you stop and look.

WOW!! Dave, what a gorgeous vlog. It rolls along peacefully and wraps it's arms around you. The sharp detail, perfect colour balance, correct exposure, super transition shots and editing, and slow motion of the Heron (and the rain drops dancing on the water?); we are entranced. My wife and I are continuous cruisers, having recently retired, and are currently wandering gently around the midlands. Sometimes we moor in towns and sometimes miles from anywhere. You're right, it's a great way to get rid of stress. Dave I just replied to you on shorts. I thought I would share a bit more with you. I like you am a widower and I have been for 9 years. Two years ago I walked up from Land’s End to John O’Groats and wild camped most of the way. I walked up 5 canals and loved meeting the canal community. It made me realise that I am “ a tramp with a home. I live in Dunbar in South East Scotland, I love my community but I have also the urge to travel. Consequently I am selling my large house and moving to a smaller one. But for a year I am going to cruse the canals: like you I love nature and meditation slows us down to enjoy it all the more. Your Vlogs brings these beliefs out so well. You have strengthened my intent to live this life. I thank you for this and maybe we will pass paths out there on the cut. I would welcome that

Hi Dave, your vlogs, films and photography are OUTSTANDING!! I felt like i was in those clouds at the beginning. And that Barn Owl...WOW! Thank you for your vlogs, and for your patience filming them.
