I'm pretty sure with Hoover Dam there's probably some fascinating stuff to learn and see inside the dam not just on the outside.

My dads side of the family is from Talpa NM which is just down the road from the Taos pueblo its a great area, absolutely beautiful. For another New Mexico Must see I recommend Bisti / De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area

in response to the route 66 road trip, you could always rent a car at the starting destination and turn it in where you end and fly out from there, so you wouldn't have to do it twice.

The Arch and the Zoo in St. Louis, MO. The zoo is free to get in, but pay for parking. The zoo is one of the best in the country. The zoo is located in Forest Park, larger than Central Park in New York City.

The Cahokia mounds site in Illinois is estimated to have had a population larger than London on its time. Pretty crazy. And we've got Native mounds similar to that all over the country. Pinson State mounds in Tennessee is even older!

I dispute that the Portland headlight is the most iconic lighthouse in America. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse is much more iconic, and it's also one of the tallest lighthouses in the world. NC has a bunch of distinctive lighthouses, all of which are more interesting than that plain white monolith he chose.

In California a must see is Lake Tahoe and Carmel which is on the ocean just south of San Francisco.

Idk if I missed it but I didn't see Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan. A while back it won the most beautiful place in America. Pictured Rock National Lakeshore is another beautiful place in Michigan.

Pikes Place in Seattle is very famous.

French quarter in New Orleans is mainly safe. Bourbon Street is one of the fewest places in the U.S. you can drink while walking down the street.

Been to Niagra Falls, Mt. Rushmore, The Corn Palace (unavoidable when traveling West from the Midwest), The Alamo, Notre Dame Stadium (touchdown Jesus!), Wrigley Field, Las Vegas, Smokey Mountains, Disney World and Route 66. Would also recommend the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, Little Bighorn National Monument, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the city of Deadwood in South Dakota, St. Augustine Florida and Key West Florida. Also if passing through St Louis you have to check out the Arch.

Best way to do Route 66 is to go EAST to WEST in a comfortable large car (there is a reason why those classic Cadillacs are so big). Go with a minimal planning and be open to seeing silly, crazy, insane things like largest buffalo or a weird bug museums, or VWs stuck in the desert, or whatever the billboards are advertising, just go and see and don't try to make sense of it all. At the end of the EAST to WEST journey, you get to see the Pacific Ocean and explore Venice Beach and other LA places. You can then drive up to Anaheim and go to Disneyland or go to San Francisco. Route 66 EAST to WEST has a way better finish line and the roadside attractions get crazier the farther west you go so the build up is a lot more exciting.

I’ve been to 47 out of all 50 states and have been to 82 out of these 100 spots on the list. I was fortunate enough growing up to be able to travel the country multiple times. Did most of the traveling in a F350 dually pulling a 5th wheel camper. Some of my most memorable moments I have today were during these trips and I still love to travel.

The Great Smoky Mountains are in both Tennessee and North Carolina

You don't have to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway in one day. We drove it in a couple of days back in the late 70s. There are plenty of places to stop on the Parkway for something to eat and restroom facilities. There are overlooks where you can pull off and get spectacular views. There are several places you can stay just off the Parkway. All within a short drive. You can pull off at several places in order get to the place you want to stay.

Another reason many Americans don't have passports is because a lot of workplaces here don't give their employees enough vacation time compared to many other countries. If you're lucky, you might get two weeks off for the entire year and many companies won't even give that. If Americans want to travel we usually have to make it quick and it's easier to stay within the country. My husband's company, for example, uses some of that time if he becomes ill and has to miss work. We're taking one week to visit my parents in another state because that's all he has after having a cold earlier in the year.

You can drive to Alaska on the Al Can highway, or you can take a ferry from Washington state. The planes that fly into Anchorage from all over the globe are not little planes.We had the largest plane in the world, the Antonov, land here during the pandemic. That same plane was destroyed by Russian troops last year in Ukraine. Anchorage is the third largest cargo airport in the US and handles massive planes all the time in any weather. Small planes such as float planes and ski planes are used for excursions to villages and off the road system places but cities in Alaska where most tourists visit have regular airports.

Orcas Island is part of the San Juan Islands, which is just north of Puget Sound in the Straight of Georgia. It's actually pronounced ore-cuss, despite there being a lot of orcas in the waters around there. I grew up in the Puget Sound area, about an hour & a half west of Seattle, and that's how all of us always said it.

You can drive from California up the Pacific Northwest and end in Washington, from there they have cruise ships that go through Alaska. I made the trip before and it was about 3 weeks taking my time. I stopped in many places along the way.

My final score was seven--Liberty Hall and City Hall in Philadelphia, the Smokey Mountains, Disney World, Nashville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Daytona. I've been to lots of other places, but they didn't make that guy's list. He left out the Huntsville Alabama Rocket Park, Sweetwater Tennessee's The Lost Sea cave system, the Very Large Array radio telescope facility in New Mexico, and lots of other neat places I've been to in the US. That's understandable because I live in the Southern US and he seems to be based on the West Coast.

Looks like you guys missed the Grand Central Terminal in NYC. If you took the subway, you could've stopped by there at some point. It's a good few minute stop.

For the ultimate road trip, start in California on the 101. Drive to Bellingham, WA, and catch the Alaskan ferry. The ferry takes 3 or 4 days, but you get to see the entire West Coast.

No Jamestown or Williamstown? No Key West? But there's the gum wall and couple famous houses.

some more michigan suggestions: The Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit- art museum full of history from many different cultures, stunning architecture, good cafe as well Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn- very cool if you're interested in history, especially auto/industrial development. Holland- just a really cool, really dutch city. a neat example of immigrants maintaining their homeland culture throughout the generations. watch out for the metric fuckton of tulips if you have allergies. Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, Farmington Hills- exactly what it says on the tin. lots of doodads and thingamajigs. bonus cool points if you're a tally hall fan. Cherry Festival, Traverse City- cherry pies. cherry sundaes. cherry jelly. cherry jam. cherry scones. cherry cake. cherry art. cherry clothing. cherry music. cherry bobbing competitions. cherry pie races. cherry heart. cherry soul. all on in a really nice coastal resort town with a neat museum and theater. Sault Ste Marie- oldest city in Michigan. old cathedral, old play theater, tower of history, shipwreck museum on an actual ship (though not quite as comprehensive as the one in Paradise).

I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunities to see many of these places. The Pacific NW, Glacier National Park, Columbia River Gorge, Blue Ridge Pkwy/Smokey Mountains are among some of my favorites. Many of these I don't consider worth the trip, but then I tend to gravitate more to the natural wonders as opposed to the historic sites. Many amazing places not listed here, unfortunately. Best cities to visit besides NY are San Francisco, San Diego, Nashville, Chicago and Seattle (imo).

Got up to 17 on the list. First hand, Denali, and the grand canyon are both so stunning to see in person, as well as crater lake and Niagara falls (took a boat under horseshoe falls.. we got so wet :D). Never stepped foot in New York before, so that is on my bucketlist. Also want to go see moab, I have seen the grand, bryce, and zion, before, so now I want to go see arches and moab. So basically ya'll have been to all the places I've never been. haha

I have actually seen some of that desert area in California.

Highway 1 up the coast is crazy it’s steep cliffs and tight turns on an extremely narrow road for a lot of it I’m afraid of heights and I could never ever do it

Beesleys this list doesn't even scratch the surface. For example I have 3 books filled with hundreds of the most scenic drives in the U.S. He gave you 1. There is so much here. It really is true that we have a young history, but a RICH history! So much has happened here it's impossible to cover it all.

I went to disneyland at 9 and that when I recommend. Littles will be too short to ride some of the rides and disney is disney there is so much to do between the parks, the rides, the animals, star wars, and soon marvel. I am in Oregon and the Columbia River Gorge is home to tons of waterfalls, kite & windsurfing, hiking, at hood river (a town in the gorge) there is the fruit loop trail where tons of amazing farms and such sell their wares

Rocky Mountain National Park is not always cold. In fact, the main road through the park is closed because of snow in the winter proper. Great place in the summer for hiking.

There are Native American burial mounds in Minnesota - I assume they are in other places in the US as well.

Seen Cedar Point (lots to sea, rides, can be very warm), Disney World (went some time ago, now very expensive, Rocky Mountain National Park (doesn't always have snow/cold, part of the drive through it goes along the trail ridge-which goes along the high spots above where trees grow, beautiful with lots of wildlife), Smokey Mountains National Park (beautiful, scenic with lots of curvy up and downs), And if you want to see light houses, most states along the coasts as well as along the shores of the great lakes, have many. I would like to see Hannibal, Missouri because Mark Twain was a very good writer of stories like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884),A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (1889) and many short stories. He was noted for his country wisdom and short stories like 'The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County'.

When you come, you must see Philadelphia and it’s iconic City Hall. A few blocks up the street is where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written. Also, go walk the Parkway. He is right that Philly is more a European city really. It’s a major city with a hometown feel. I should know, it’s my hometown.

We have made it to 71 of the places mentioned. Overall, I think he made some egregious omissions such as the Redwoods, both national and state parks in CA, Napa Valley, Mt. St. Helens National Monument, San Simeon (Hearst Mansion or Biltmore in Asheville NC (Vanderbilt) should have been included over some of the residences he mentioned (Winchester Mystery House??). Also, Sedona, Zion NP, Bryce NP, Mesa Verde, where were they on this list? Houston Space Center is a must see if you're interested in space, and Key West is wonderful for its laid back atmosphere. Since he included whole cities on his list, Savannah and Charleston SC should have been included. What about Mammoth Cave NP in Kentucky? Those are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

I am a native Californian. I was born in Berkeley, grew up in the east San Francisco Bay Area, still live between San Francisco and Sacramento. I you wish to travel to northern California, I could guide you on your travels. This would include the locations on the video plus many more. I have easy access to Alcatraz, San Francisco, Muir Woods, Napa and Sonoma Valley locations, Highway 101and Highway 1, Mount Lassen, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia National Forest, Monterey Bay (including the aquarium), and as you leave Northern California, you could head through Death Valley on your way to the Grand Canyon and possibly Las Vegas. If I can help, let me know. If you wish to head to Southern California, I would suggest Hearst Castle, Hollywood, Disneyland in Anaheim, San Diego, etc..

Oh that’s cool the first one they show is one of the places I lived in for a long time which Assateague Island is part of Ocean City Maryland and it is a beautiful beach that horses run up and down and you can take your jeep or truck and there’s a deflating station that you can lower the air in your tires and then you can drive along it as long as you have a chain and rope And we made that mistake last time and my brand new jeep n was in April so it’s cold n we got pushed into the water and started to get pulled out to sea but luckily somebody came by that had a big four-wheel-drive, heavy duty truck and was able to pull me out. it did some damage with the salt water and got my distributor cap wet but other than that my jeep was fine But that scared me because the Jeep was only five days old but Ocean City Maryland which is part of it is very nice. it’s a big party town but it’s very cool and you can get from the Island to Delaware in the winter in about 20 minutes and the summer it takes over an hour because of traffic but Delmarva means Delaware, Maryland and Virginia because it creates a diamond around. Washington DC! Just FYI.

you can't do the whole thing as it isn't a contigous road anymore. it was replaced by the interstate system and only has a few parts that are even driveable any more.
