Modern day Twinkies. I am 70 years old and back in my day (heh heh) they were quite good. A really good sponge cake with a real cream filling. Not like the crap they are selling now. At one time they were off the market. When they were brought back, there was a collective Tim the Tool man grunt in response to the taste. They certainly are not like in the "olden" days. :0( Just another example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I think it's something that used to be popular. I'm around Josh and Ollie's age and they used to taste different when I was a kid but as I got older it seemed they changed the recipe. I think Hostess did that with a lot of their products. We used to have a Hostess store in my city and it was pretty popular but as the taste changed the store became less popular. I haven't eaten one in over 10 years but judging from what I've heard over that time from others the taste is not the taste it was when we were kids.

This is right. I have never had any of these “snack cake” brand items since elementary school, and I don’t know anyone who would voluntarily seek one out to eat in our adulthood. It is just like a collective memory that all Americans share from childhood. Imagine any time when the 2nd grade teacher wants to bring treats on a field trip for the class but is not looking to spend more than $10 to do so for the whole class - that is the only appropriate time for Little Debbie/Hostess snacks.
