You need to know about some things about this amazing person's story, like "The night when Mexico didn't sleep". No, it's not a song title, but rather a real event that happened on late 1988. When "Juanga" was invited as main guest on the popular late night show "Mala Noche... No!" hosted by Verónica Castro. The show, which started at 11pm had him singing live and the phone lines were exploding with messages from the public. The transmission had to be stopped at last so that the early news program could begin... at around 6am of the following morning. To this day, this presentation is considered legendary in the history of Mexican television. Having an amazing talent for music both singing and composing, and having one of the most interesting careers as well as a novel-worthy life story, Alberto Aguilera (Juan Gabriel) is one if not the top Mexican performer of all time. A biographic mini-series called "Hasta que te conocí" reveals his origins, his troubled youth and distance from his family, of how he was sent to jail for a false crime and how he became to be "El Divo de Juárez". This was released on 2016, the same year of his passing. His public funeral was held on Palacio de Bellas Artes, the same venue were you saw him sing first. This is an honor very few have had. I loved your reaction, hope you enjoy more if his songs in the future. ❤ Regards from Mexico City.

You really have to watch his bio, he suffered all his life, and he wrote approximately 1, 800 of songs not only for himself, but a lot of really good singers, he was in jail unfairly and still triumph, he was not only a good songwriter, showman or singer, he was a real light in this world. Juan Gabriel is our Michael Jackson. Hes a showman, performer, story teller. Hes amazing and captivates so much emotion. He was an amazing performer. I was able to go to two of his concerts and he rocked them both. People usually ask for "another song" when performers finish their set, and this man would perform "another song" until the crowd was satisfied... AMAZING, so much love and positive messages throughout the shows. He is one of the best to do it in the world. I don´t know of someone who interacted so much and transmit so much positivity and love, and made you feel the lyrics of the songs he wrote. He was outstanding.

One thing about Juan Gabriel in particular that makes him stand apart from most mexican singers is that his stage presence was trained in the Palenque stages. Palenque is a type of musical stage that takes place in local fairs in small cities, and there you face the roughest audiences: local, not sophisticated farmer audiences with little to no education - so they can only respect or even admire those that are truly great talents. Most pop singers only do palenques after they had decades of hits, and in his case he started by doing palenques... so he got a bit of a baptism by fire. Seeing Juan Gabriel in a Palenque was a life changing experience (that I never got to live). As a gay mexican performer since the early 70s having a palenque square thinking macho mentality audience on a daily basis should have been the hardest thing to do, but not only did he earned their respect, he won all their hearts and fan base there that followed him throughout his career. His palenque concerts, or any of his concerts for that matter, could last up to 4 or 6 hours, since he could please his audiences up to that many hours with that amazing music quality. The versions you saw here and on "Hasta que te conocí" are live version on Bellas Artes (Beaux Arts stage on my best translation, the best and most educated audiences in Mexico city), so they're kind of a piece of cake for him. As you say, he is a born performer, and his stage education made him even greater. Greetings from Mexico!!

I did see JuanGa live many times when I was a child, not willingly, I just didn’t have the capacity to appreciate him at the time, his songs were everywhere on the TV, radio and even in the movies; every granny and mother in México loved him and his music and they new his lyrics by heart, meanwhile me and my little girlfriends just wanted to listen to Nsync, BSB and Britney Spears obviously. It was until I became fully adult and he passed away that I saw how much of an artist he TRULY was besides all of the cloud and non-stop media exposure :(

Yes, "Amor Eterno" by Juan Gabriel is a must! It is cathartic, beautiful, and everlasting. One of the greatest of all time. Present in every Mexican funeral mass I've attended.

If you want to continue with Mexican music, I sincerely recommend one of the Queens of Cumbia, Selena Quintanilla. She was Mexican American but very beloved in Mexico. The Flower of the Mexican- American Border, you may say. A beauty with immense talent inside and out whose life was tragically cut short by a traitor whom she called her best friend. My favorite song of hers is "No Me Queda Más", "Cobarde", "Como Una Flor", "Amor Prohibido"; in English "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You". As for the rest of Latin America, may I suggest a trip to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico in particular? We're a small island bursting with talent. If you want a taste of salsa and merengue music, you won't find better than here in PR. Favorites: Ruben Blades "Pedro Navaja", "Ligia Elena" and "Decisiones"; Hector Lavoe "El Cantante", "Mi Gente" and "Aguanile"; Olga Tañon "Que Se Vaya", "Es Mentiroso", our just listen to her "Mega Mix", a compilation of her greatest hits; José Feliciano "En Mi Viejo San Juan"; El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico (legendary group here) "El Timbalero", "Azuquita Pa'l Café". Next door in the Dominican Republic, the Kings of Bachata, you absolutely must listen to Juan Luis Guerra. The man is a poet, so pay attention to his lyrics. Favorites: "El Niagara en Bicicleta", "Burbujas de Amor", "La Bilirrubina", "Las Avispas", "La Cosquillita". Down the way in Cuba, listen to the legend that is the incomparable Celia Cruz, she's beyond amazing. Favorites: "La Negra Tiene Tumbao", "Yo Viviré (I Will Survive)", "Quimbara" and "La Vida es un Carnaval". That's enough for now.

Juan Gabriel is exactly how you described him. I’ve been very lucky to see him in concert front and center. He’s not only a grandiose performer but he’s composed all 1,500 songs. He was a great human being and humanitarian. He not only took care of all his family but he took care of 2 homes for the elderly and 2 orphanages. He was an amazing man. Unfortunately we lost him suddenly on August 28, 2016 in Los Angeles, CA By the way, Mexico is part of North America. Enjoy his music because, like you said, people like him are very rare.

I’m a new subscriber in your channel with the Juan Gabriel video and I’ve been a fan of Juan Gabriel for a long time, but unfortunately he passed away on August 2016 where he was preparing for a concert on October of 2016 in Puerto Rico, where I’m from and I was planning to go see him for the first time, but sadly it never happened. He has so many beautiful songs like: Amor eterno, Abrázame muy fuerte, Querida, se me olvidó otra vez, Siempre en mi mente, etc.

I love your interest in Juan Gabriel. My husband and I saw him in live performance in Mexico City when he was just beginning to be known in 1980, without Mariachi or orchestra and he was fabulous. You should also try: José José, Luis Miguel, and there are so many other great Mexican singers.

He was the best. I went to 2 of his shows in Texas. On the 1st one the venue screwed up the tickets and were not letting people in. He started the concert anyways and they finally let audience in. He was there to put on his show and no screw up was stopping him. 😂

Your reaction to Juan Gabriel made me so proud of my country ❤ if you want to keep looking for incredible mexican singers, you must check on José José, singing 'El Triste', around 1970's. Amazing as well.
