I’ve been watching reactions to this song for the last two hours and looking for somebody who reacted with literal and serious emotion! Not laughter or sarcasm, but real true emotion! The first time I heard this song, I couldn’t help but tear up while being infuriated! I’m a liberal gay woman living in a bright red state. I’m almost 70 and since 2016, I haven’t felt safe. Up until then, I lived in a world that even though there were disagreements, I felt there was also common ground. Both parties had problems. There is greed and political corruption on both sides. I’m not naive. But when a politician is declared a messianic figure, we are heading toward theocracy. When political leadership decides loyalty to a person and not the constitution is way to govern, we are heading towards autocracy. I don’t hate anyone. whose views I disagree with. I just want my country to remain a Republic governed by elected officials, the way the founders intended.

The one thing that gets me in today's time is the talk of democracy. We didn't have a democracy. We have a constitution of the Republic. It's in our Pledge of Allegiance, which it says unto the (Republic), for which it stands one nation under God indivisible and liberty and justice for all. People seam to be confused today about that in today's time.

It’s really sad that especially nowadays, almost any interaction you have outside of your circle is concerned with how you believe, with what you believe, your stance on issues, as if that is what defines you entirely, when the fact is, it does not. I support our American Constitution, and all therein. But I don’t attack people with it. I don’t go out of my way to enforce how I feel on everyone else around me. I treat everyone with the respect I would want to have given to me. Just because we stand on different sides of the fence doesn’t mean we need to wage war. We can be neighbors, and live in peace even if we STRONGLY disagree on certain issues. Being different does not mean you’re evil or a bigot or a libtard or whatever. And a majority of people here have lost that sentiment, or threw it away. It really is sad. I remember the days when you weren’t labeled by what you believed in, just who you were.
