I agree with others who say there are too many holes in this story. He says the start of this problems was when his cards expired and he was unable because of Covid to travel back to England to get new cards. What is the British address that his bank has? New cards for his expired ones will have automatically been sent there. You don't have to request new cards. They are sent well before the old ones expire. Is there nobody who could have sent those cards on to him or had he simply failed to tell his bank he no longer lived there? So I'm guessing new bank cards must exist somewhere and anyway if he was already made transfers from one account to another in the past he doesn't physically need any cards just security information and passwords. Why would a bank refuse a transfer over the phone because of the physical lack of a card? They just want the numbers. Why, if it was physically impossible for him to go into his local branch, did he not register for online banking anyway? If he's posting videos online he is clearly able to do this.

How can someone have money in the bank and be told they cannot have it, despite having ID. working in Banking for 24 years now i have never heard this happening, something is stale in the state of Torrevieja.

We don't know the full story here. Can't leave the country because he's awaiting trial? What's that all about? Is the British Consulate on the case? He probably doesn't have a residency permit (maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't look like it) and there are centres in Spain for the homeless so he doesn't have to live like that. Can you imagine anybody from Spain doing this in the UK?

I can understand some people just give up. I would bet that if I drove to Spain and offered to bring him and his dog to the U.K. he wouldn't come.

If he has this money, in another U.K account, why wouldn't he take a cheap arse flight back to the U.K to resolve his financial issues? He's obviously purposefully leaving lots out. Call b.s on this! Or he's a wrong un!

His claim for his "Rainy Day Fund" being denied improperly by the bank sounds fishy to me. Why not jump on a cheap flight to the UK or see the British Consulate? More to this guy than meets the eye.

If you are legally living in Spain you would have a Bank Account as you have to pay for all services (eg)Electricity from your account,half the time before you even get the bill.The Consulate can help you get your funds transferred from the UK if your having problems with that.They are there to help British Citizens to sort out any problems.

I'm amazed that Torrevieja isn't FULL of homeless people from across Europe. If you've got nothing at least you've got sunshine.

spain is probably one of the better places to be in need. the spanish folk have a sense of decency about them. they wont judge you and will help if they can.takes guts to do what this guy is doing.

whatever city I have moved to throughout my life there was a need to find work to pay the rent. It did not matter what - cleaning work or washing up in a cafe. This gentleman only speaks of peoples generosity and never about simply finding work to provide a roof over his head. What with the pay pal account and the local peoples kindness he has less incentive than ever to change his circumstances

There's definitely something a bit off with this story. Not quite sure what it is. But in any case, how can you expect to retire to a new country when you don't own your house? To retire it is essential than you own, and don't rent, your home, especially in a foreign country.

First thing I would do,is clean the place up and get rid of most of the rubbish around your tent,I know it's furniture to you but to others it looks awful.Second,you look healthy,there must be something you could do,cleaning yards,roof top balconies etc,I was in that situation in Spain and if you're willing to work you will find work.

Why move out to Spain if you have a thriving web design company? Surely the company needed day to day management. There's a little bit more to this than meets the eye. Nonetheless, Mike's there living on hard time and it's a very difficult downward spiral to climb out of, without direct help.

Like others I feel for him but can't help feeling much more to this story. There must be local organisations either statutory or charitable that assist homeless people particularly in a country with a socialist government. Wasn't clear why he can't travel back to the UK to go to the bank? I do hope he finds a way to get back on his feet. Homelessness can happen to any of us.

There's lot's of folk who's life's go wrong very quickly, a failed business, tax office non payment, a court decision and bank account seizure , before you know it you've lost everything .. I wouldn't overly judge as it could happen to anyone, and the mental health damage isn't something you can see straight away.

I think that there's something he is not telling us, my suspicion is that he is a S.O. if you know what I mean. He has a passport and that's the ultimate form of identification so why he's being refused access to money is again highly suspect , where's his family and friends?? If they are not helping him then there's a reason why, notice that he never said where in the UK he is from...why?.

There are not enough properties in spain for the local population let alone incomers,There is very little Social Housing and most properties are passed down from generation to generation.Having lived in Spain myself for many years I know this to be fact.How someone with plenty ends up with nothing beats me,too much elbow lifting!

Just shows that this could happen to any of us, A bad decision or a few of them, throw in some bad luck and there you are, in his position. If that was me and I wanted to get back to the UK I'd be there 3-4 days tops. Hitching up to France then cadge a lift across on a ferry. He cant come back for very good reasons. Showing his face on KZfaq like this could be a mistake.

Can't imagine how terrible it must be to be homeless. But, the story just doesn't add up. As others have said must be a lot more to the real story.....

£80 return flight to the UK to sort out his finances. He could have borrowed the airfare from someone. Nobody sits back and allow a bank to keep their money without a fight. His story makes no sense.

We opened a Spanish bank account, had a Spanish contact for legal reasons, accepted the Spanish laws, found a Church of England, pay Spanish tax and have a great cheap life. We kept a UK base in case we return full time. The Spanish banks do operate differently to those in the UK.

It is his money y the banks don’t let him have it it’s beyond me I shud go back to the UK and get that money because it yours and go bonkers the banks soon want yur money

What a terrible thing to happen to anyone. I hope he can eventually get access to his money. It seems awful in this day and age with digital banking etc, that the banks won't help him out. An organisation that may help him is Age concern Spain.

Why don't you tell the bank to post you your letter and get a friend/neighbour or someone you know to pick it up in the UK. Then for them to send you the letter for you to complete. You may have to send the completed letter back to your friend in the UK for them to forward it to your bank in Spain. Its a drawn out solution but eventually I would image you'll get your money. You can also consult with the British Embassy as another source of information or enforcement. What about showing the Spanish bank management your KZfaq video with genuine generated public interests and concerns as possible proof. There are alternatives in getting your money from these Spanish Banks and ridiculous practices. Regards!

He's a very nice and decent guy it seems. So its sad to see this, something is amiss of course. He cant go back to the UK for a council house as they are not available for British people

I guess he finds it easier to rely on the generosity of others…. I don’t believe the story about him not being able to take a trip back to the UK,it’s a story that he’s probably exaggerated.….it will be a civil matter not a criminal one…so hes just making a reason for taking hand outs…i guess its better outdoors in Spain than it is in UK. …….obviously his mental state is not the best but i hope he gets to a better place in his mind,.or maybe this really suits his lifestyle for now..….
