He's absolutely right stand up comedy here in the UK is generally terrible and has been for about 15 years. I think you may be confusing panel show Comedians with working stand-up comedians. off the top of my head I could easily come up with 25 great American Comics that do what they want to do regardless of criticism... I'd be hard pressed to come up with 5 British Comics that fit into that category.

19:41 that's exactly how I describe him too. When watching all the different comedians tributes to them, they all said the same thing - you never knew where the joke was going or what the punchline was going to be. I remember either watching or reading a tribute to Sean where they said that whenever he was on stage at comedy festival or gala where there's loads of comedians doing sets one after the other, whenever he was on the wings were packed with every comedian there whether they'd been on or not because they wanted to see him perform.

You missed the plot. The "shock and awe" crude jokes that jimmy and them can do there won't go over well here. The political satire that Bill Burr does about how we allow our government to rule us etc. would not go over well there. He is saying that to him, jokes about things that matter are "better" than the crude dark jokes Jimmy Carr has. I don't necessarily agree, I think he is comparing apples to oranges here. I think Burr and Carr are masters of their craft. Its like saying a carpenter who specializes only on tables is better than a carpenter who specializes only on chairs. They can both be the best at what they're doing, because they're not doing the same thing.

Right-wing IS the establishment in the UK. And UK standup's surpassed most of the current US flock some time ago. US standup stopped stalled a long time ago. They write one show and tour the shit out of it for years. UK and Irish stand up's write a new show every year. And yep, Frankie Boyle is woke, as most decent people are. Why would you not want to be aware of (and sympathetic to) social/racial injustice? UK comedy is just more clever now, cheap laughs are a thing of the past. What is he talking about, mock the week mock the government every week, frankie Boyle and Russel Howard also do it, Sean lock does it on cats about the queen and thatcher, the last leg does it, Ricky gervais does trans jokes, has he ever actually watched any uk comedian? I’ve also noticed something very recently about gigs in America, when someone tells one of those types of “jokes” (I use joke loosely as it comes across that they’re just expressing an opinion) the audience don’t actually tend to laugh they cheer and applaud it, they just love hearing shit they agree with and will cheer it anywhere. Its also probably harder to do in the uk at a stand up gig without offending half the audience as in America the states and city’s are red or blue as they say so you’ll probably know when it’s safe to use that stuff where as in the uk people could be coming from anywhere you’re never guaranteed to have a majority audience that will agree with your politics and you don’t want half your audience potentially walking out.

Are u joking, Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle etc, would be cancelled in the States, I love Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle etc, but their comedy is mild compared to a lot of British comedians, take Chapelles recent feud with transgender people,as far as offending people, he doesn't come close to Ricky Gervais, but, the top American comedians do a lot of stuff about race, the British comedians don't bother with that shit

We definitely poke some serious fun at politics and the establishment. What about Russel Howard, Mock the week, Have I Got News For You, Joe Lycett, or Jonathan Pie, just to mention a few.

I'd throw in Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry, Ricky gervais. (Although ricky can have some right wingish comedy, he still does his bits at movie awards)

I would rate Ricky Gervais above any American stand up comedian, he is more hard hitting and delivers his lines in a more intelligent and thought provoking manner.

No one is harder hitting in stand up than Jimmy Carr. In America he would probably get cancelled. React to his riskiest jokes compilations.
