Maybe it was the cherry ice cream with chocolate if you bought a bigger box. That one is sooo yummy. If it was ice cream on a stick it might have been Royal. They have many good chocolate flavors.

The "Japp" chocolate bar was actually made by the Swedish Marabou in 1947, and in 1949, Norwegian Freia started making those. The Mars bar was first made in 1932 in Slough, Great Britain.

Japp is made by Marabou and Freya. In Sweden it’s made by Marabou and in Norway it’s made from Freya. Freya and Marabou are Business partners. The normal sized Choclate of Japp was discontinued after A different chocolate factory bought the recipe from Freya in 2020, I think it was in 2020

The reason the tortilla chips is the most sold in Norway, is because we just LOVE taco, and we dip tortilla chips guacamole or sour cream when we have tacos. I’m not kidding when I say that most Norwegians have tacos nearly once a week. We are crazy for tacos 😂

No reason to get annoyed to be honest, it is common nature to compare new things to things you already know as point of reference. It’s not a big deal being reminded of something. Like I am most definitely reminded of a mars bar when I have tried a Japp, and many other instances. You then use that point of reference to work out what you like more/less than the other so you can decide which one is better for you.

Kind of funny how they try swedish and norweigian candy from Maarud which is also known as Estrella in sweden, and they try the Japp from Freia which equals Marabou in sweden. Also Ballerina is from a company called Göteborgskex which is the same as Saetre in norway.

If you haven’t heard it said before you might get a little confused but to say No English speakers is what we call hyperbole 😂🤗 And it’s easy once you know it’s, as you say, a bastardisation of quick lunch but the pronunciation is still different

Emil Kastellet and yeah as you say (I missed that bit in the OP) Kvikk is not the same pronunciation as Quick and vice Versa. Kvikk = kvick (like ‘kick’ with an added v like in villa) Quick = qwick (like a candle ‘wick’ with the q of queen before it)

Smash (OLW) is Swedish and so is Japp (Marabou) so not just Norwegian candy. We share a lot of candy between the nordic countries! 😇

This is 3 years later, I know. But still, Marabou was started in Sweden by the same Norwegian who founded Freia chocolate company in Oslo a few years earlier. In 1990 the two companies were united into one. But you are right about Japp, though. It is in fact Swedish originally.

We find the kv and kn combination hard to pronounce, and the e-sound at the end of words tends to come out more like ay. English pupils in French class, "Parlay voo fransay?"

Lol I laughed cos I knew that they were trying to say: Godteri= Got - teh - ri (English speaking person phonetics for the dialect in norway I live in... its obviously not going to be exact as there are sounds when saying it’s, but closest for an English speaker)

Kit kat was invented 2 years before kvikk lunsj, but the kit kat wasn't sold in Skandinavia so Freia did not know about kit kat when kvikk lunsj was realesed. I learnt this at the Freia factory in Norway

I’m a Norwegian and kvikk lunsj is made for sporty Norwegians hiking, or doing cross country skiing (langrenn) unlike KitKat, which is made for Americans to eat on the couch watching tv.
