Various shots Hawker Tempest fighter taking off and in flight. Plane does lots of fancy moves and loop-the-loops - could be test flight? M/S crew running towards planes and the planes taking off. Various L/Ss aerial dogfight, one plane crashes in sea. M/S squadron gathered around blackboard, one adds a chalk drawing of plane to row - marking how many enemy planes they have destroyed. Various shots ground mechanics tinkering with engine of Tempest, one mechanic loads bullets into wing gun. More shots Tempests taking off.
Amenment September 2011: Fottage is of a Hawker V series destroying German V1 Rockets, not German aircraft. The rockets were known as "buzz bombs."
The stunts performed by the pilots of the Hawker V's are actually barrel roles, not loop the loops.

french Tempest Ace Pierre Closterman recounts in his book "The Great Circus" that a Spitfire actually managed to shoot down an intruding low-flying Arado Ar-234 flying below, putting his Spitfire in a steep dive. Afterwards the Spitfire was battered, with popped rivets on the wings, but did much to boost the Spitfire side in the friendly rivalry beetween Spitfire and Tempest pilots, Spit pilots joking, that''s something you've never been able to achieve with your lead sleds (meaning the Tempests). Another good-natured joke was that the landing speed of the Tempest was higher than the cruising speed of the Spitfire :)

Incredible bravery and skill of these pilots still amazes me. Such a powerful and highly technically demanding aircraft was a big jump from Spitfires and Hurricanes.

It's a treat to see the successful downing of the diver into the sea. Presumably the English Channel. I'd love to know the date!

This plane was used to supply the Indian forces in Skardu in the war of 1947-48. Unfortunately, Skardu was captured by the enemy .
