Im a Swede, and my English is more American English than British English. But In school we actually learned British English.. Amazing how much Movies/Music and Internet affects you..

The thing about accent is that in Sweden, at least, you learn British English in school. Spelling, pronunciation, all of it. However, the cultural exchange is more american, from music, video games and movies which is most people only use of English, really. Unless you work for a big company, and perhaps in a larger city then you don't usually speak a lot of English unless you consume media which most people do. That's why a lot of people often swap accent, but it's one of the perks of speaking English as your second language because you get to choose your accent. :)

Yeah, it's from culture as movies e.t.c. Swedes get the some what american accent, wich is a litle bit strange, because back in the days, when I was young and was in the basic school (1980's) it was british english that was taught and it was more of british culture inspiration over Europe before the WW2.
