Immortal Songs Series is 7 singers singing the episode's theme (usually a legendary singer) songs and the person shown time to time in front of black curtain is the winner until the previous singer's performance. Bridge Over Troubled Water was under "Pop songs of the world that Koreans loved." This was Michael Bolton special and 7 singers sang his songs, but rearranged a little bit, but Sohyang changed the song completely. Bolton made some commets, but didn't judge. The audience who like the performance press the button they have. Michael Bolton not only gave the standing ovation, but said that it was a virtuoso performance and invited her to his concert and sang with Sohyang. I'm guessing he invites her every time he visits to Korea or at least did more than once. The girl wearing silver dress shown time to time was sort of the best singer in Korea before Sohyang's this performance. She sang Completely. So Hyang did win this contest show, where they have already very accomplished singers on it (not like in the west). Her version of Bridge Over Troubled Water (KBS TV K-Pop version) is even better to me. She is considered by many voice critics to be on top of the female singers currently living on earth. Several of your Sohyang reactions were performances from the Immortal Songs 2 show, where artists are asked to perform unique arrangements of famous songs based on the theme of the episode. That's why Lean on Me, You Raise Me Up and Bridge Over Troubled Water were so different than the originals. Sohyang doesn't change every song to this extent, but her covers are always memorable... in a good way.

It's a friendly competition among well-known artists while celebrating legendary singer/writer or a theme. That episode was celebrating Michael Bolton as a legendary singer.

Nice reaction. I'm certain you are thinking of the 1972 classic version written and performed by the late Bill Withers. The PHENOMENAL So Hyang updated and elevated the song. Michael Bolton covered the song in 1993. If Im not mistaken, he was on tour at the time in South Korea, and that's why he was there. Afterward, he asked, and So Hyang agreed to sing with him on part of his tour.

She is my favorite female singer ever. Her voice is just incredible.

Sohyang has said in an interview that this 2014 performance before Michael Bolton was the most pleasing to her personally up to that point in her career because Michael Bolton is one of her absolutely favourite singers, and because he was so effusive in his praise for her she was satisfied that she and her team could produce similarly world class songs and performances. And hey, Michael Bolton told her she was a vocal "virtuoso" after the concert and invited her to join him for the rest of his South Korean tour. How do you beat that? Well, Michael Bolton can offer to take you on an entirely new world tour making you the featured guest--and that is _exactly_ what he did! Unfortunately, or not, the two could not make their schedules match no matter how hard they tried and the tour never materialized. This was actually fairly depressing for Sohyang because she really wanted to go BIG TIME in the music business at that exact moment but everything seemed to conspire against her. Pneumonia problems would crop up and this has been a chronic problem for Sohyang. She would later recognize this as God's way of preventing her from getting caught up in the North American and European music industry that would have been destructive to her character at that time. Sohyang is humble enough and courageous enough to confess she had become so ambitious that she was an ugly person, short tempered with other people and not treating them with proper respect. I know, my jaw hit the floor when I read the interview too! Sohyang a _mean person?_ Say it ain't so! But we all have times where we are embarrassed at how we behaved and Sohyang is just a human being, like the rest of us. Two years later in 2016 Sohyang was almost ready to quit the entire music business because her health problems were so bad. Yet she had given her truly immortal performances of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Arirang Alone," "Everyone" and "I Have Nothing" only the previous year in 2015, and "The Prayer" and "Power Of Love" in 2014--songs _any_ diva who has ever walked the earth would _kill_ to have in their repertoire! So she plundered her bank account and took a trip to New York, Boston and Philadelphia. In the latter city Sohyang saw a quote from President Franklin Roosevelt where he had said in his inaugural address during the Great Depression of the 1930s that "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." This proved so inspirational for her that when she got back to South Korea she entered the "King of the Masked Singers" contest in 2017 and won it on six consecutive occasions! Still the pneumonia dogged her so badly she knew it was God's way of telling her she had to reassess why she had become a singer in the first place. And that was to sing to lift people's spirits who were going through hard times. In 2018 David Foster himself did eight concerts with her at Tokyo's Blue Note Club and it is thought he offered to be the producer for new recordings of her. But she had been really reconsidering her purpose in life and decided the Hollywood lifestyle was the last thing she truly wanted, and in 2020 she turned down a contract offer from Sony Music US, _the 2nd largest music corporation in the world!_ And there were many others before that going back a decade or so! Since then Sohyang has been resolute in her decision to stay away from the music "industry" and manage her own career for the purposes she had started it all with.
