Nowadays the British let the King live where he wants, he just has his offices in the palace. I think that’s better to be fair, who on earth would want to live in that grey rectangle surrounded by gates that caters mostly to tourists.

Do you have any idea of the geography of the London area? Windsor is just up the Thames and was bombed. Probably in error or by German bombers dropping their payload before returning to France. And anyway, it was important that Hitler did not score a major propaganda victory by killing members of the Royal Family
