Yes, Tyrone, you are so right. I'm from Texas and I don't believe that ColtM41A meant that only we are polite. I always tell people that if you are in a state that has the word y'all in it's vocabulary then you can pretty much expect good manners and friendliness. NOT saying that non-Southern states aren't friendly too.

@@coltm4a186 My parents lived in Houston for five years while my Dad worked for Petrofac out there. They just got back to the UK in 2017. They lived the American dream, nice house, swimming pool, glorious sunshine most of the time.....and some Glock's for home defense haha. Houston became a second home for me and my siblings who were stuck back in the UK. We'd fly out to Houston usually twice a year to see them and spend 2/3 weeks at a time Stateside. You are right about Texans, very polite and well mannered. Very welcoming. I'd happily pitch my tent in Texas :) My Dad has commented more than once since being back in the UK that he misses the easy going attitude and the politeness. They would have stayed if they could, but being so close to retirement it wasn't to be sadly. But their time in Texas gave us all very fond memories of the place :)

Our Son, Paul has recently (2 months ago), completed two exercises in the U.S.A. One, of just over 5 weeks in Hawaii, and the other at Nellis A.F.B. Nevada. He's been in the R.A.A.F. for just on 16 years, and been lucky to have travelled a fair bit, also, as he did when as a child growing up, he did with us as we travelled when I was in. What is shown here equally reflects how the Australian contingent was received when they landed in each aforementioned location. I've gotta give it to you Yanks, when you do something well, you do it VERY well, and then some!. We are very pleased that he will be welcoming some of his American workmates in the next few months, rest assured, they will get the best friendship, and Mateship, can provide!.

I've posted this comment elsewhere on this platform but, in my opinion I think it justifies repeating here. I was born on the mid-1940's and raised in North Cheshire. There I had the great good fortune to get to know American U.S.A Army Air Force personnel and their families living off-base in North Cheshire. In an age of post WW2 austerity they were generous (without being ostentatious), courteous (again without ostentation), sympathetic and considerate at all times. Some families lived off-base where life-long friendships were formed with we locals. No finer nation than the U.S.A.

Ian Robertson No.. AS an American I cannot except your thanks for it is I who am beyond grateful. On 9/11 your nation arouse in a furry over an assault upon a country not your own. While we were still in shock over our loses your armed forces were responding to a call to arms that echoed throughout NATO.. and 453 (last info I could find) paid the ultimate sacrifice for a country not their own. Thank you will NEVER be enough. Rest assured that when we honor our dead on Memorial Day I make it a point to hoist one for them.. and all who fell in defense of my country while wearing another nations uniform.

Just little familial spats....where the family members kill each other in massive, gory, blood curdling droves. :/ Look, the US and Britain are close allies and have been for the vast majority of the duration of our relations. That said, we haven't "always been best friends." There were times, short as they were, when we were enemies. That's all I'm saying.....
@OFWGKTA6669999 жыл бұрын
We're not friends more like partners.
@tewkewl9 жыл бұрын
ALGOS The war of 1812 was the second war of independence. It's an interesting part of history because the Royal Navy impressed american merchant marines into service when they found them on the high seas (it was their right to do so to british vessels). At this time, it is quite likely that the american accent did not exist in the current form and for the most part, americans were rather.... british, for lack of a better word. The Royal Navy viewed these sailors as still basically british. America was having none of that. At the same time, the British government had a nagging feeling that it should go and collect the colonies once again. Although it began as a spat over the impressing into service of american sailors, it really was a continuation of the revolution. This was the last time the Great Britain and the US would come to blows in any major conflict. Fortuitously for Americans, every time America and Britain came to blows the British were engaged in a conflict with Napoleon/France which was their major rival. It would be like America fighting a war with China and then having to fight a smaller guerilla war against a seceding state like texas. The british were never able to give these conflicts their full attention.
@tewkewl9 жыл бұрын
ALGOS also, the revolutionary war was fought over taxation without representation. if the crown had simply allowed the colonies representation in parliament, the war could have been avoided. but from the british perspective, this would have been a huge gamble. the colonies were as populous as the entire kingdom of scotland, and to essentially have another scotland sized independence minded piece of the country at the table would have enormous national implications.

Growing up in North-West England in the 1950's I with my friends, neighbours and fellow-citizens befriended many American service personnel and their families. They were stationed at R.A.F (U.S.A.F) Burtonwood. Some families lived off-base where friendships were forged to last a life-time. Sadly, nature has taken its course and all those have passed on. Nonetheless, I would like to convey my sincere thanks to their descendants for what they did and what they represented then and indeed still do now.

Your average American is a kind, hospitable person - or at least that is my experience.

America and the UK are truly like friends. They talk shit about each other all the time, especially behind each others backs. But then they're also always helping each other out no matter what. Same goes for our Canadian and Australian friends. The US, the UK, Canada, and Australia are pretty much like "the fellas"
