Best Boxers Ever? #BBTV pundit and historian Tommy Dix gives us his all time top 10 boxers and breaks down why he reveals them and classes them as the best of any era.
Included in his list are some ties and boxers he couldn't separate as well as some great that didn't make his overall list. nobody tells it like it is better than Tommy and there are not many about who have the boxing knowledge and experience as Tommy does and this is a video for the hardcore boxing fans to savour and debate.
Remember a top 10 list is subjective and purely personal choice and opinion, this is Tommy's, do you agree? Or disagree? We would like to hear your own views and top 10's so please leave your thoughts on the comments and subscribe to our channel if you haven't already done so.
Thanks for watching.

I just discovered Mr. Dix on this channel and I cannot stop listening to this man...Love the fact that he mentioned Ezzard Charles when he was talking about Archie Moore, only a true boxing historian would ever mention Charles when talking about the Light-Heavyweight division...Personally I rank him number 1 as a Light-heavyweight, mainly because he beat Moore 3 out of 4 times...Not just Archie Moore but a prime Archie Moore....
@nelsonmcatee3721
@nelsonmcatee3721 Жыл бұрын
You would have to omit Bob Fitzsimmons to put Ezzard Charles number one. And Fitzsimmons was ranked #3 of all time by Nat Fleischer in The Ring Record Book and Boxing Encyclopedia in the Heavyweight division. He had better knockout power than Bob Foster.

@@nelsonmcatee3721 Fitzsimmons was never in the LH division until the very end of his career when he was waaay over the hill so to rank him amongst the great LH champions of all time is ridiculous. As far as Fleischer ranking is concerned, that was done in the 20's, lol....

No way that Hagler won it. He was a great boxer, possibly the greatest middleweight ever, but he lost that fight or in the best case for him got a draw. Hearns beat Leonard far worse than Hagler and got robbed in their second fight.

Tommy Dix, whom I've never heard of before, comes across as a very knowledgeable boxing historian to me. I feel that his list is very, very good. My top 5 best boxers of all time: 1. Sugar Ray Robinson - clearly the best; no weaknesses, controlled fury; awesome to see in action... 2. Muhammad Ali - the best heavyweight ever that had skills no heavyweight has ever had: footwork, defense, elusiveness, hand speed, etc. 3. Henry Armstrong - Great, great underrated boxer. 4. Harry Greb 5. Willie Pep - best pure 'boxer' ever...

Great Job, My trainer was in the gym watching Turpin spar with his brother for Robinson, he knocked his brother out, he was revived and Turpin knocked him out again. The very low stance of Turpin caused Robinson a lot of trouble however Turpin started smoking and may not have taken the rematch as seriously as he could. If you watch the film Turpin was seriously injured and unable to defend himself against a devastating puncher - the stoppage was legitimate.

I love Tommy, what a wealth of knowledge! The problem you have comparing different eras is the inherent and inevitable argument of how often fighters fought, return fights three weeks after a fight (Robinson beating a world champ 3 weeks out from the LaMotta fight) then saying "...imagine Canelo fighting Golovkin three weeks after there 2nd fight". It takes 3-4 months nowadays to find an appropriate pov date, there's also the fact that elite fighters make, in one fight, the equivalent of what Robinson, Grebb, Sandler, Armstrong would make in a career. Why would you risk unecessary damage to your life fighting 140 times, when you can fight 35 times and walk away a multimillionaire. Nonetheless, an incredibly well thought out list, he's a boxing historian of the highest degree. I'd liked to have seen Pacquiao/Mayweather around the 7/6/5 mark. To have dominated in multiple divisions against so many hall of famers, they can be considered all time greats.

Agree with his comment on Hagler /Leonard. Marvelous Marvin won that fight. To take the title from a champ that had defended it a dozen times you have to do a lot more than skipping around the ring throwing rat a tat tat punches that Hagler hardly felt.

Im trying to boil it down to what his list is. Is it the best technical fighters? The toughest fighters? The most overlooked fighters? The most underrated? The most sentimental to the sport of boxing? He doesn't seem to think too much of Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Leonard. But both belong on a top 10 list. I don't think he is necessarily going by wining to determine his best fighters. So I'm not sure what this is a list of.
@JeffPenaify

I dont think Leonard or Marciano belong on a top 10 tbh I can name 10 with deeper careers
@busseat8396
@busseat8396 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffPenaify , that's ok. We don't have to agree. You want to go by length of career, or something along those lines. A long career doesn't mean they were the best. But if you want to make length of career as the criteria, thats a whole different story. I am going by who is the best fighter. The is no doubt Sugar Ray Leonard is one of the best boxers ever. And Marciano was not an artist at boxing, not at all. But he would probably beat every heavyweight in the last 120 years. They belong in a top 10 of all time list. Sugar Ray beat Hagler. I saw the fight when it was first put on tv, before the years had its chance at tarnishing what really happened. Sugar Ray won that fight. Did he show boat? Yes. He freely, and openly, says he did. But he still won the fight. It's funny that most of the same people that don't have a problem with Ali's showboating have a problem with Sugar Ray's. Hagler was a showboat too-chaging your name to Marvelous is gawdy showboating. And I think it got under Hagler's skin to no end that Sugar Ray showboated at a level that he was not able to do. I think he wanted to be bigger than life, to be world famous, the way Sugar Ray was.
@JeffPenaify
@JeffPenaify 3 жыл бұрын
@@busseat8396 not just length but depth of career, as thats the only accurate way to gauge the quality of athletes in a sport where "styles make fights" Leonard is a great fighter but he always mitigated risk, like forcing the Duran rematch much earlier than initially planned so he doesnt get tune ups and get back in shape, or dictating the ring size, gloves and round limit vs Hagler after waiting for him to slow down. Tommy Hearns was outboxing him the first fight and straight up beat him the second fight, he waited nearly a decade til he gave Duran the rubber match, I mean Ray Leonard is an ATG but he don't have the depth of guys like Harry Greb, Robinson, Armstrong, Tony Canzoneri, Ali, Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Joe Louis, Ike Williams, Charley Burley. Both great fighters no doubt

British Boxers, heavy praise for doing these interviews, and than Tommy from all of us! s One point I have to make - and I FULLY AGREE with Duran being that list, - Tommy only focused on his lightweight supremacy, - but with his other fighters on his list he mentioned them moving up the weight divisions etc, - let's never forget Roberto became WW champ, super WW champ demolishing Davet Moore, THEN Middleweight champ beating Iran "the blade" Barkley, who had recently blown away the great T Hearns, - AND Hagler promised to KO Duran? Didn't happen! Duran dropped Vinny Pazienza as an old man at super MW too? Roy Jones I think should have been in there personally. Cheers, great job n thanks again.
