My grandad used to be based at RAF Scampton with bomber command. He was a aircraft tech specialised in radar. I heard lots of stories from him about his RAF career it was great. RIP Grandad

The 'all out of harm's way before the missiles arrive' conveniently ignores the fact that they would have no base to return to as it and all the others would be smoking ruins.

I’ve been told by ex-Vulcan people that they’d have been looking to land in Sweden. Flying further east than Moscow would’ve meant they’d have been out of fuel over the USSR.

In such an event, they would most likely either launch a retaliatory attack if possible, or evacuate to another friendly airbase

@MarcMelander the unofficial advice was to carry on flying east, land somewhere and settle down with a Siberian woman for the rest of your days... Lol

With 10 minutes warning, that’s 2 minutes to pull a remarkably fast start of the aircraft and 8 minutes to run and hope it’s not a nuclear weapon hitting your base.
