Monica was 22 and intelligent and talented enough to get a Whitehouse internship. You would think she would admire Hilary Clinton enough to demonstrate a level of common decency and respect. No one had to know about Monica and Bill's lapse of judgement, but she chose to brag to her coworker. Bill and Monica's disgusting behavior changed the trajectory of this country by ushering in the religious right. Bill deserved worse repercussions and shame than he received but that shouldn't elicit pity for Monica. It's a shame that people now feel sorry for Monica but not Hilary.

It made me really uncomfortable and made my anxiety spike. Not only is it gross and inappropriate, it seems like a very predatory question. Idk why but it reminds me of the scene in legally blonde with Elle and the professor. Take the audience away and you pretty much have that situation. It’s very creepy and disturbing.

I could not be an adult telling a 16 year old to wear a "sexy school uniform" for her music video. All this scrutiny on Britney is so gross and the adult producers who should have been the ones to be scrutinized, flew under the radar. Hollywood is full of them.

Actually the school girl outfit idea was by Britney herself, she hand picked the clothes from the local K-Mart. The record label and music director original wanted the music video to be an animated super hero themed. But Britney said that she wasn't going to do that because its not what her audience wants to see and it isnt relatable. So Britney came up with the entire concept for the Baby One More Time music video and hand picked the clothes herself.

Now after this documentary everyone here in holland is disgusted by him! And he says this was agreed on to be asked! Big lie, he saved this question as the last question to be asked to catch her by surprise! This is so sick! Poor girl..

I find it interesting that Britney's dad wasn't around very much at all (and I remember throughout Britney's career, there was only talk of Britney's mom being in the picture) then Britney goes through a hard time and all of a sudden the dad sweeps back in, takes conservatorship, and refuses to give it up for 12 years. I was a teen at this time, 15 in 1997 and I just liked her pop music to dance around in my living room. As a teen girl I didn't even consider her a sexual being. Adults made her seem way worse than reality.

Our parents grew up in a hyperdrived shoulderpads and key bumps kind of success-focused culture. They didn't spend lots of time with us, and pop stars influenced their kids more than every star-obsessed generation prior. Those stars served as scapegoats for parental guilt, and tangible targets for them to throw their looming fear at their ar of loss of control towards.

maybe people who don't agree with him. When I watched his 90 days fiance series on Azan and Nicole a lot of people were ridiculously angry cause Doc Honda was being empathic towards Nicole (and people love to talk shit about Nicole, most of them are fatphobic i've noticed). I saw comments on his videos but mostly on reddit and fb making fun of Doc Honda and really saying awful things about him and his channel solely because he didn't hop on the "Yeah she's awful let's make fun of her".

I think my generation's Britney was Miley Cyrus and now Billie Eilish is in that position. She is criticized not for her sexuality but for her depression. I don’t think this line will ever end. Billie who has actively taken steps in her image and choices to hide her body and not be sexualized, being criticized for it and Jojo being criticized for being ''too childish'' and not dressing and acting her age. On the other hand you have people like Miley and Cardi B being criticized for being too sexual. I was 12 years old when she came into the scene. I remember dancing to the music but didn't speak English at all so I used Britney as a motivation to learn English. My mom was ok with me liking Britney. She knew she was performing and thus the sexy clothing and moves. My mom was a psychology professor and when Britney was going through her darkest time we would speculate about what's going on with her and at the same time she'd feel frustrated with the paparazzi hounding her. Now, as an adult looking back at the questions the interviewers were asking her at such a young age is very shocking and appalling.

I remember clearly that I tried to be sexy and "hot" at 15 and 16. I was very innocent but exploring my sexuality, just like I think every teenager does. It does not mean that it would've been okay for anyone to treat me like a "sexy woman". I was a child exploring. As a woman and mother now I feel horrible for her. The way they treated her from the beginning. She was being broken step by step from the beginning.

@@cheylahnwe same. My great-grandmother, grandmother, aunties, etc all asked me every time we'd visit them. It made me feel so uncomfortable because they'd follow up with things like "aren't there any cute boys?" "Do you like girls instead?" "Don't you want a boyfriend?" "Oh, you just gotta get out more" It's like.... I'm 8, 10, 12, whatever.... I don't need a boyfriend!! At 22 I moved to the opposite side of the world and at 30 I still have no plans of ever going back. My life is peaceful now without so many toxic people in my life. (Of course, there were also other factors, not only them bothering me about finding boyfriends)

Particularly as I grew up in a household with chaos and terrible, aggressive communication. Seeing healthy communication modelled has been invaluable. I hope you know a lot of people appreciate what you and your wife do! It’s also always so nice to see someone calling out misogyny, racism and homophobia!

problem is that theres never been a mental health diagnoses other than the court documents stating she " has dementia". as someone with an Hons degree in Psychology, no one here should really try & claim her condition. however, worryingly, in this doc they failed to show that Lou m Taylor is a woman by Britney's admission, " stalked her" and is the real, serious cause of this cship abuse. james & her conspired to have a 5150 order, then somehow, in the space of a few hours, the court was presented with the mountains of paperwork. this does not happen! its a long process to do that & its clear lou & james conspired to have this cship

When I was a teen I have been catcalled by adult men for my butt, my lips, my breasts, that made me hate the idea of being sexy. Although I liked my looks in sexy clothes, for me and only me, not for anyone else, I hated the attention, therefore I never wore them. I am 32 and I haven't wore sexy clothes outside of my home ever since I was 19 years old or so.

Dr Kirk’s face when that creep old man asked Britney about a boyfriend is all of us watching that creep. I think today’s lightning rods are Miley Cyrus, female rappers, and maybe Arianna Grande. Cardi B in particular has had criticism about her music being a bad influence on kids. Thing is, they don’t make music for children. And they aren’t babysitters for their kids. My mom didn’t like the music of Brittany’s and felt it was too mature for me, so I didn’t ever hear her songs until I was older except maybe one song they would play in stores. Also please don’t throw your content away! It is so helpful to people! Ignore the haters ❤️

I'm about her age and my mother didn't sensor at all what I was watching or listening to. I liked her music. The way she dressed was basically every artist at the time. I didn't see the interviews, because I don't live in America, so I never saw that side of it. It was a huge shock when she got into trouble and I really didn't know what was going on.

I feel like your comment can be said about a lot of celebrities and artists. Thing is, the parents are the guardians of what is allowed in the home. I never heard Britney’s music growing up because my parents didn’t allow it and they explained to me why. Cardi makes music for young adults and maybe late teens, I can see that argument, but late teens can have conversations with their family about appropriate and inappropriate things.

Meanwhile my mother and I were both Britney's fans and tried to learn her choreographies 😂 We aren't from an English speaking country but she understood English very well, she made me understand the difference between entrainment and show and real life, therefore I never tried to imitate my idols. I think that's the healthy approach for all parents, you can't dictate someone's music neither isolate your kids from the outside world where those songs are played everywhere. All you can do is teach them that it is for show, teach them to be themselves and not their idols, strangling them with prohibitions instead of teaching them to make the right choices, creates the perfect environment for a retaliation when they are teens and that is a very vulnerable time filled with bad and dangerous choices.

it's really important to remember how little agency she had and how much of her persona was crafted and enforced by adults but she was held responsible for it, as though she'd made those choices. People talking about how she seemed innocent but her clothing, photoshoots, etc. said otherwise are missing the point that she *was* an innocent girl being posed and dressed and told how to act in order to make money for all the people who profited off of her exploitation and took none of the criticism for the mold they asked her to fill. And you can say that she could have chosen not to but when you've been in it since you were a small child and you don't know anything else, and everyone you trust is saying you're doing something good and that people would lose out if you stopped, how would you?

Id add that its important to remember its ok for young girls to want to experiment with looking sexy and attractive and doing that via representations they see in the media. Its normal for her to say she liked looking sexy and that doesnt mean its an invitation for everyone else. Shes allowed to want to feel and look sexy as a teen, have a sex drive and still be innocent, and have that respected.

The fact that she had the presence of mind to tell herself "be strong Britney" during the Diane Sawyer interview tells me that she learned to heal and self-strengthen at a very young age. That is a skill she had to learn from heartache and pain. I've seen this interview before but this is what sticks out the most as I watched it in light of all that has come forth about her life. I was NOT a big Britney fan so I did not keep up with her but looking at how "the team" has mis-handled her sickens me. She is a talented, grown woman with children who should be able to live her life and pursue happiness. The conservatorship is nothing more than modern day slavery as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you! I didn't like how the documentary didn't focus on the sexualization of her childhood. It's different if she chose that for herself but I bet the team and record label full of adults around her did it. The school girl outfit was weird come on!!

Yes! The decisions for image came from a producing team and they were definitely trying to make her into a fantasize/festishized underage sex object. I mean, posing her in booty shorts about to get on a little girls bike, having her pose in revealing clothes with stuffed animals. I'm outraged FOR her, not about her. I can't believe all these women commenting on her at the time weren't saying, excuse me, why is it ok that managers and family are hyper sexualizing a child to make money? She's a very talented singer and entertainer, ALWAYS has been, it's revolting to have watched her be used and vilified like this.

I agree with you, however, I believe her when she says ''what girl doesnt want to feel sexy'' when commenting on that. I doubt she minded. Im not saying its ok, Im saying its a wider issue. Girls are taught by culture and media that being sexy and desirable is the dominant role and source of power for women (just think about music videos, tv shows and movies), teens experimenting and wanting to emulate that is normal. I feel like talking about dressing sexy and posing sexy like its this this awful thing somewhat discredits and shames girls experimentation with their developing sexuality. For something society presents as desirable for women.

@@BambiLena666 I hear what you're saying, but there's the factor that not only was she a minor at the time, but we can't be sure she DID choose, or if it can be stated she was capable of full and enthusiastic consent. People were making lots of money from her posing and being presented this way. Even her family. It's not as if she were a teen with an Instagram who came up with concepts for her own photos of her own will. I think it goes back to Dr. Honda saying, if she's a teen who expresses herself through a bikini on a beach or a short skirt and so on in her life, it's one thing. If she's a minor where others are making bank out of leaning on making her sexy in every photo and appearance while ALSO putting in props to highlight a young chronological age (stuffed animals, little kid bikes, pigtails, etc) it starts getting questionable.

Actually Britney was more incharge of her image earlier in her career. She was the one who wanted to do the school girl video with basketball, the record label wanted to do something completely different but she pushed for it. She had much more creative control in the beginning. You can her in a lot of interviews she said she doesn’t understand why people think she’s being sexual because for her exposing her stomach was so sexual, and she thought it was just a normal cute outfit

The men asking those questions were creeps... Literally my skin crawled. It is disturbing. And some of those women or people judged her? Wow. How about those creepy guys? Theyre the nasty ones. I wouldnt want to be anywhere near anything like them and im like, 35 lol, and Brit was 17... Its so disturbing to me, i found this hard to watch.

She didn't get to choose her own outfits or anything, I always got the impression that Britney and Christina were being exploited and paraded around for lusty old men. Her fans didn't see that stuff as sexual. How is a school uniform sexual!? Not when you are a kid it's not. I thought "hit me" meant call me on the phone. Louis Walsh tried to start a girl band when he started Westlife but MTV refused to play their videos unless they were naked in them, and Louis didn't want to do that to teenage girls. The fans never wanted that that was MTV looking for ratings from a wider audience Like Christina said she was naked in the linear notes for "Stripped" because it was a symbol of how the music was more open and honest and she was more exposed than in previous albums... that's some lie someone told her to get her clothes off. I get the impression that Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga pick their own outfits and know full well what they are doing and I am so so proud of them, and I think maybe because they are around my age and saw what happened to Britney that that's part of why they are wide to all this bullshit Britney is 16 or 17 there and in pigtails and he's asking her about her breasts...

I’m so happy you’re watching this! Very interested to hear what comes out of your face. I’ve always loved Britney. I can remember being young and watching her “Gimme More” VMA performance. I remember thinking she looked tired and sad. Everyone on the news made fun of her, and my mom bought a magazine a few days later that called her fat. It made me sad for Britney. She deserved so much better. She needed compassion and understanding.

I had an academically focused blog that got fairly big, though I had lots of positive fans I also got hate mail and negative comments a couple of times a week. I only had 0.001% of Britney's fame but it affected me greatly. Its been a few years and I still have severe email anxiety now and I ended up closing the blog.

I'm a 27 year old German who used to be a Britney fan as a kid. I didnt know English back then, but I sang and danced to her songs everyday. I literally screamed "I'm a slaaaave for you" dancing and didnt even know what it meant lol. Of course I'm not blaming Britney at all (as if shed written those lyrics) but its pretty scary to think about now. Just like that DISGUSTING boyfriend joke Britney had to endure at that kids shows. Wow how times have changed (and are luckily still changing)...Eye-opening

I was a young teenage boy (~ 12-13 years) when Britney really hit the pop music scene, and of course idolized her at the time as part of my sexual development. However, as I entered my later teens and early 20s grew increasingly judgmental over her "behavior" and eventually viewed her just as a disaster. Only when I started in my mid to late 20s that it became evident to me just how horrific her life must have been. How traumatizing it must be to sexually objectified by the world from the earliest age, mocked, denigrated, and then ultimately cast aside. Ironically, it felt like South Park was the first to call bullshit on our behavior in a very grim and horrific way - in 2008. Only 12 years later do we actually catch up.

I love Britney - I am so glad you are reacting to her documentary. I wish more people would watch your reactions to these documentaries or shows. I cringed at all the moments you cringed! I FEEL for anyone who is in the spotlight. You guys have to have tough skin, which isn't fair. I don't know how you do it. Also, thank you for pointing out how sexist the entertainment industry is, eventhough it is changing. I just hope we as a society will continue to enlighten ourselves. Oh and by the way, you mentioned who society are clutching their pearls at today? Cardi B and Meg the Stallion - both women have big hearts.

This definitely triggered me. I’m 3 years younger than Britney and I remember when I was 17 I started working as an office junior (later promoted to legal secretary) at a law firm and it was just seen as fair game by almost everyone in the office to comment on my appearance and body. I actually had a similar experience when my boss (a lawyer) brought up how large my breasts were for being so tall. My body and appearance was constantly scrutinised and picked apart. I don’t think a week ever went by without someone striking up a conversation about my body. Often they would talk about me like I wasn’t in the room. Unfortunately I had abusive parents growing up and this experience as a young girl/woman made me feel completely worthless and like there was something very wrong with me. It’s only now in my mid 30s I can understand this was not okay and I was only being targeted because I was a very pretty young woman. I really hope things are starting to change now. As a woman approaching her 40s now it’s rare anyone comments on my body and certainly not like that. It was like a campaign of hate against me. I can’t imagine how awful it was for Britney to deal with this from the world.

I don't understand why it's okay to blame the famous person for being harassed when their crime is to share their talent with the world. If everyone went with this logic we would lose a lot of great artists and musicians. It's like if someone got on stage and performed, and some jerk threw stuff at them and when the performer asks them to stop, everyone goes "you shouldn't have gotten on stage then". OH OK!

I hate this so much. I went to a private Catholic girls’ school. We had some free dress days. It was hot as balls so I wore a tank top. A normal one 🤷‍♀️. A teacher came up to me and told me I wasn’t allowed anymore because “there were male teachers”. I was upset. But as I’ve gotten older it’s made me feel grosser. WTF?!

I totally agree we have come some way from those late night jokes about Monica Lewinsky. They were abhorrent. They would definitely not fly today by Colbert or Conan or Seth Meyers. I was really disappointed to hear a Monica Lewinsky joke by Trevor Noah on the Daily Show recently. It felt very cheap, out of place, and beneath him. I remember asking myself, "who thought that was a good idea?"

The fact interviewers, parents etc are asking her and scolding about being “overtly sexy” esp when she was a minor still really shows something, the fact they never blamed or thought about well who dresses her for these photo shoots and videos? Who directs these? As a young woman/late teenage girl ofc she’s gonna want to show some skin and want to feel attractive and pretty but just because she’s famous it automatically becomes scandalous, she didn’t sexualise herself any more than any other girl her age, the adults did! The creepy old men and the jealous old conservative women did and they’re the same people making a fuss about it and trying to point blame, look in the mirror or look to the adults if it’s not that person directly 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you for pointing out that clip of her being asked about a boyfriend at 10. People thought I was overreacting because “Santa” asked my speech-delayed 4 year old if he wanted a girlfriend for Christmas to cook and clean for him. He didn’t even know what that meant, he just wanted to ask for a Mario hat and that question made him visibly uncomfortable.

Up until recently, every docu I saw of britney mentioned at the end how her dad turned her career around and saved her life. Imagine being britney watching those or hearing about them and feeling the amount of anger, frustration, and resentment because that wasnt the case. I am so happy for her that everything is actually coming to light now. It's just sad that it's taken over a decade

I haven't seen the entire documentary. But this part of really reminded me of when Megan Fox and the screenwriter for the movie: "Jennifer's Body", Diablo Cody, spoke about how the production company wanted to market the film with the key words: "Megan. Fox. Hot". It's very unfortunate how female celebrities like Britney and Megan have been ridiculed and objectified in their early years of their careers-- and now we're finally realizing how out of hand it was.

I am a Britney Spears fan. She was with me in very difficult moments, her voice, songs, dances... and I’ve always felt very upset about why they treated her that way. It hurt me so so much that I stopped seeing news about her between 2006 thru 2008 because I couldn’t support the gossip, how they blamed her. She was young, very young. She had not got support but her fans and no it is not enough. She needed her family, good people around... she is a PERSON and a really good performer. She always tried to be super polite and nice. It is so sad that people needed 12 years to see this, to understand this. I know she is going to get her freedom and that she deserves the best. Thank you so much for your point of view, I love listening to you and I love that people is interested NOW in mental health at last.
