I took it more akin to a traveling salesmen offering you everything you’ve ever wanted and upon receiving the gift you realize it wasn’t worth the price you paid but, you can now never give it back without losing everything you’ve traded that you are now. That’s why they say you can’t ever unsee or un-know what you’ve learned, sure you may forget but, trigger the right emotion and it comes flooding back in.

I take “apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime” sarcastically. I think he’s saying that, thanks to the internet, we always have to have an immediate opinion on each new issue that comes up and, of course, we never have to experience boredom again. These are not good things.
@QuikVidGuy

also that if you claim or feel like you have nothing to do, there's an air of "what are you talking about? you can literally see anything and you say you have nothing to do? are you lazy? watch a video, learn a new job, start a political career." We're seen as falling short for even taking a breath, to the point where we turn "I have nothing to do" into a chance to perform a little bit more on twitter or tumblr or w/e, showing off our lazy day looks and how absolutely dreadful being bored is, as if human beings aren't built to rest for big parts of their day

I agree. There is so much info and media to consume that not being interested or letting yourself be bored, which used to be normal states of being is now viewed as so terrible or lazy. And we've trained our brains to constantly be consuming all the media and internet has to throw at us so when we've got nothing to feed it, it feels unbearable instead of peaceful.

The lines about "mommy let you use her iPad, you were barely 2. And it did all the things we designed it to do- now look at you" are about how we have these things DESIGNED to be as addictive as possible, endless scrolling, KZfaq algorithms to keep watching, games and sites that need to keep eyes on the screen to get ad revenue- giving a tool like this to a toddler who is still developing mentally.. is honestly really fucking scary. We don't even know how badly we could be fucking over new generations of kids with these things. The internet is overwhelming to us as adults, giving access to the entire world for all its good and its bad to children is dangerous and could have unforeseen consequences.
@auracle6184

That line hits one of the hardest in the whole show, all the horrible shit Bo describes is exactly how companies like KZfaq *want* things to be.
@Lucifronz
@Lucifronz 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't take the line to mean that, but it's kind of true. Rather, when I hear that line I hear a lack of understanding of the consequences of having all of that information available at once. You will never have to be bored again, never have a question unanswered, never be left out of the conversation. The internet connects you to the world no matter where you are... ...but contrary to the overall theme of Inside and how isolation can be bad for you, this song highlights how bad *not* being isolated sometimes can be for you. There is no balance with the internet and how we use it. We are totally, 100% over-stimulated all of the time because of it. We never want to take a moment to sit without the internet and just... relax. We're always on our phones and our computers, tapping away at apps and checking messages and reading articles and watching videos. That's exactly what the internet's for, access to all of this information whenever you need it... but it's too much. Humans have poor impulse control. We can't moderate ourselves.

It's not exactly ironic, cause you have to remember that Bo is playing a character in this song (that character is the big corps behind the internet/the internet itself). So, it's more like he's saying what he has to say to convince you to stay engaged. If you don't comment about this event, if you don't share this post, if you don't care about this issue, if you're bored and out of the internet, you're committing a crime. Don't ever do that, stay engaged, stay on the internet, never leave.

Inside (and more specifically, this song) is what lead me to finally uninstall reddit. It's an enticing endless stream of content which I found myself getting entirely trapped by in every spare moment of every day because I have no self control and ADD, the popular stuff is all interesting content, none of which actually stayed in my head but amused me for a second before moving on. It's a brilliant platform and a great way to engage with people/communities of things you're interested if you use it like that (I'm seriously not bad mouthing the platform or it's users) but I personally just couldn't seem to stop. It has anything and everything, all of the time.

I did the same thing with Twitter, and although my KZfaq browsing has remained high I've been mentally better off for it. Honestly, unplugging yourself can be a good thing, but then again..closing your eyes to it doesn't make it go away. The internet isn't seperate from the real world; it's a reflection of it. I feel...guilty...knowing that there's awful stuff out there that I'm making myself purposefully ignorant of it for "selfish" reasons like "mental health". But thinking about it, what is someone like you or me supposed to do? Remain trapped in argumentative forums and "clap-back" chains with actual checkmarked politicians while algorithms narrow down our interests until the end of time? I would prefer _not_ to do that, thanks.

I always tell people to watch his specials more than once because they’re so introspective you literally learn something new every time depending on what mood you’re in. You should watch the episode of The Green Room that he’s on. Even surrounded by experienced and well known comedians double his age he was able to stand out. It also gives some insight into some of the things that inspired him in his latest special which is crazy because there’s something like an 8 year gap between that show and when he created Inside.

THE MUSIC IS KLEZMER! It's folk music, which takes itself from ashenazi (eastern european) jewish music and traditional jewish music, as well as general eastern european folk traditions, which inspired a lot of vaudville (and thus circus and carnival) music! It's known for its upbeat and particular cadence, as well as its usage of vocal effects as part of the song and storytelling (laughter, the sound of crying, a particular type of vocal effect called a "tear in the voice", etc). Some examples of klezmer you might know are fiddler on the roof and hava negila.

This is a great reaction. I watch these videos to get a new perspective. I often find myself not coming to the same conclusion as you all the time, but that's not a bad thing. You give me new a perspective that I don't see all the time, weather from with in, or from my friends. Keep it up man, your one of my favorites. I love hearing your opinion on shit like this.

I’ve said this in other reaction videos on this song, but when I hear this song it feels like I’m listening to a Disney villain song.

As Schaffrillas pointed out in a recent video, this technically falls into the category of a "villain song." The internet is a straight-up sociopath that DGAF how you use it.

You crack me up! I’m a sixty six year old man and I can assure you that my synapses are fine. I’ll admit that Boomers have more trouble with technology than young people, but that doesn’t mean our brains are bad.

I think the music is a creepy version of circus or carnival music. Bo's playing the role of an evil carnival barker -- the dude whose job is to tempt passerby into checking out the elephant man, the bearded lady, conjoined twins, etc. But that laugh reveals he's not just a barker; he's been the literal devil the entire time!

Maaan, you’re so right about the 3 year old vs. the 65 year old. Times change faster than ever nowadays, some ways better, some weirdly worse. The future looks so unpredictable and scary lol

You didn't get the message (in my opinion) in the iPad bit. I think it's meant to be a jab at how addictive the Internet is. "Everything we designed it to do", aka become addicted to it. Just my take though.
