If you’re looking for the secret to transforming the level of presentation engagement you can deliver in a Zoom meeting from your home office, pard’ner today is your lucky day! In this episode host Michael Thiel (a self-described “creative force”, for whatever that’s worth) shares his home office secrets that will get you broadcasting your OBS studio program to Zoom in STUNNING HD QUALITY. (I think the all caps really drive the point home, don’t you?)
Get ready for a mind-bending technique that, once understood, just might change your life. (Hey, it has mine. I mean, not in a “kick sand in the bully’s face way”, but it HAS helped me become significantly more effective in virtual presentations!)
**Important Note**
Unlike my other videos, which are snappy 2-4 minute videos, this is a CRAZY DETAIL video that pushes the 20-minute range. You deserve the details of how all the magic happens, and this video delivers. Stick with me and you’ll discover how I utilize “4 Screens and the Truth” to produce virtual presentations that captivate and engage clients and business associates alike-and right from my own “one-man band” home office setup. [Sorry, no harmonicas or knee cymbals.]
**About the Pop-Up Videos**
In homage to VH1’s beloved Pop-Up Video series (from the mid-90s), I decided to let my sub-conscious come along for the ride, both to be helpful, but also to “grease the skids” of the long-form video tutorial. If you enjoy self-deprecating humor and random pop-culture references, you MAY find this video tolerable for the pop-up captions alone. (And, if not, well, it was enjoyable for me, LOL).
**Need More “White Glove” Assistance?**
If you like the idea of a home-based set-up, but you would like personalized consulting from someone who has already done the research, made all the mistakes, and has things dialed in, I invite you to reserve a private Zoom consulting session at: flowstrategic.com. I conduct fee-based after-hours consulting, mainly nights and weekends, and can provide the personalized attention you may require.

Thank you, very clear and the 4th screen trick for zoom is quite good! Question: what PC specs do you need to have to enable something like this?
@mdthiel2
@mdthiel2 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! I’m going to do a video for this, but I’ll give you some spoilers: I highly recommend a traditional PC tower due to the number of USB ports, and for the number of inputs for a graphics card for all the monitors. A PC tower is about one-third the price of a laptop and gives you superior cooling and upgrade - ability. I went with a Dell XPS with an NVIDIA GPU, 32 GB RAM, and at minimum, an Intel i7 CPU… Cheers!

Great video! I had a question about the virtual camera, if you project and screen share, then are you just using your camera as you regularly would in Zoom? Or it’s not actually needed because it’s in the scenes? I may have missed that part.

Hey Miguel: Your camera COULD be one of the many scene combinations you can send to your projection, for sure. All cam, picture in picture, you name it…

Hi Michael I have been recommended that i use 2 laptops (1) for OBS which is the main. and the (2) other for Teams , I am also using NDI. Currently i have another OBS on my (2)Teams laptop which is just running the NDI output of my (1)main OBS setup. on that (2)laptop is is showing a projected scene. and i use the share screen in teams. What i am finding when Teams and OBS is running laptop(2) , the laptop is very slow. What do you recomend as an ideal layout. ?

Hi Tony--I apologize for missing this comment. That is a pretty advanced set up you are using, for sure. I do know that your computer that is running OBS needs to have a higher-end CPU (computer chip and GPU (graphics card), and ample RAM, or you will "chug" as you are describing. I personally just use a Dell XPS with an Nvidia graphics card, an Intel i7, and 32GB of RAM. One computer and 4 screens. It works for me as it allows me to be a "one-man" show vs. trying to manage multiple computers. Thanks for the comment!

Hi there, thanks for the video. What teleprompter / camera are you using?
@presentationplus-ups
@presentationplus-ups 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan: Thanks for tuning in. I use a Canon Rebel SL3 with an Elgato Capture card for the primary camera. The Glide Gear split beam HARDWARE is affordable home teleprompter. Couple that with the $20 PromptSmartPro app on an iPad and you're cooking with gas. Check out my video on this very subject for more details: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbCWhJd9rryak4k.html

I have a similar set up but it’s nice to have a reference point. Misssing piece for me is the audio routing screen. Tried to find your 15 min video but could not. Can share?

Hi, great video. Quick question: sharing the screen via Zoom - sure. Got it. How every, that creates a gap between the video and your voice as your video no goes "an extra round" which takes a tiny bit of time but enough to dedtrx the synchronization between you speaking in the shared video and the sound of your voice. How do you solve that? Thanks!

Hi there. You know, I've always had nicely synched-up audio/video using the OBS mixing process in both Zoom and Teams. I'm guessing it's the zero latency aspect. This also includes when I play videos from my OBS queue. I do have a fiber connection with 1GB up/down, so I don't know if that helps or not. Thanks for watching!
@TinoEngelTraining

@@presentationplus-ups Thanks for answering. Internet conncetion isn´t the issue. It´s rather the fact that when you screen share your video using OBS your video signal from the camera goes an "extra round". You don´t bring it into Zoom via virtual cam straight away but you project it onto your second sreen, bring it back into OBS and THEN - via virtual camera - you bring it into Zoom. The audio however goes straight into Zoom. Hence, the video has a longer way so to speaek. Thats what creates the latency? YOu never had that issue?

Hello, i'm just learning the basics on all of this. I have a question. How Do you project the OBS Output to a different screen? I kinda got lost in that bit. I'm on a iMac if that makes a difference. Thanks

Hi there. Here's the tip to full-screen project to a 3rd/4th screen: Right click the "gray area" around your PROGRAM output in OBS (ie - the area that surrounds your OBS output). Then, select the desired screen you wish to project your OBS Program to. Good luck!

I seem to be getting great audio sync issues. The video is way ahead of audio in my zoom meeting. Whe l use the svreen share of the OBS program output. Have you had to deal with audio sync issues .

Hi. It's been a while since I've done this with Zoom, but you might want to try a couple of things on your screenshare: (Share video and Share audio...or the equivalent names). I've had that help I believe.

Would love a basic tutorial for beginner video podcasters, like when all you’ve got is; iPhone, iPad & 2015 MacBookAir + XLR Rode Procaster Mic & Focusrite… is something similar to your set up possible with those basic tools? I want to screenshare my iPad into zoom and have audio/webcam. I’m hoping this is possible 💖🙏🏻 going to check out your channel and other videos in case it’s already there!

Hey there. I apologize for not responding! It sounds like you've got a great audio setup. So many questions...first, if you are looking to use your iPad as a SOURCE to show "stuff" then you could Airplay it to your Macbook and share that content as a Window in Zoom. That would allow you to still use your Macbook camera. Things like OBS Studio are pretty taxing for Macbooks, but I think you could test it out and see if it would permit you to make a run at it. That would be a few suggestions I'd have off hand. I do offer consultative sessions by the hour, so if it's something you'd want me to investigate with you, I'd be glad to in the evening. My rate is $125/hr, but I can often save individuals way more in time and money, LOL. Best to you!

How do you keep the fish to 30 or 60 in Zoom and yet keep a optimal resolution of at least 720p?
@presentationplus-ups
@presentationplus-ups 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, I really apologize but I don’t know what you mean by the fish? Do you mean frames per second? If that is the case, then we can pull up the stats and check it out. I just know from personal experience that when I screen share my projected video versus a default screen that has only a PowerPoint deck, for some reason Zoom recognizes the fact that I’m sharing a video and it kicks the frame per second up.

@@presentationplus-ups Yes, fps, since when at high resolution, it will kick down the fps to 15 fps instead of 50 fps. Can I set fps priority?
@presentationplus-ups
@presentationplus-ups 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlee3625 Hi! There is a small workaround to boost the FPS...when screensharing, select the "Optimize for Video" button. This will lower the resolution to 720p (which is still a good HD signal) AND boost your FPS back into the 25-30 range. This is my recommendation for getting silky smooth slide transitions when screen sharing in Zoom...
