When I saw Waitress on Broadway one of the ensemble members dropped one of the pies during Opening Up and since it was made of plastic it bounced across the stage so the actor had to run to get it. I was sitting in the balcony on the side of the stage so when he turned upstage I could see him look at one of his cast members being like "So it's going to be one of *those* shows" and his castmate started laughing 😂

I was a stage manager for a small play, a premiere. on the first night the walkie talkie was not working, so I had to manually give a sign to the lighting booth to bring stage lights up when I confirmed that the new set had been laid. After the 2nd scene, there was a miscommunication and they turned the lights on while I was still on stage and I did a very balletic jump to the wings. Exit stage left...even. these were some fun stories, Thanks.

When I finally worked up the courage after being picked on years prior after a friend I use to play billiards with asked. While I always had an interest in performing, also fairly interested in all the behind the scenes portion. Had I kept trying I would've improved timing wise with the sound/lights but I kept getting the timing off. Granted not long before I had been bleeding internally but least at the end of the day...happy I finally did so for myself. Had a wonderful time even though those around may not have realized.

I was at the second preview of Wicked in San Francisco. Two things I remember. Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth, was supposed to exit in a cloud of smoke and a trap door downstage left. The smoke cue popped and when it cleared Glinda was still standing there. She shrugged and walked off stage left. In Act 2, Fyero swings in on a rope to rescue Elphaba, Leo Norbett Butz swung in on cue but couldn't get his foot out of the rope. He tried to kick it off and in doing so, fell. Everyone laughed, cast and audience. It took a while to get back into the scene and it finished fine.

Two years ago I played Gertrude in Seussical. During the song “Amayzing Gertrude” I was supposed to get my longer tail on, by sitting on a platform right against one of the curtains while someone put the tail on a buckle that was on my dress. HOWEVER, this specific night, the buckle was under a piece of my dress, so the person couldn’t find it to connect my tail. Luckily they found it before the chorus, but I missed the dancing I was supposed to do, because I couldn’t move away from the wings. I don’t think the audience noticed, but I’ve never been more terrified in my life. Also, (mini story) when I saw The Lightning Theif on tour, there was a part where they set off two confetti cannons. Unfortunately, I was right in the line of fire and one of the toppers of the canon flew off the stage and hit me in the head. 👍🤗

So two come to mind: 1. I saw saw A Little Night Music with Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. Elaine famously forgot a line at my performance and I knew that because I had done the show months before hand. 2. I was Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast two years ago, and it was our final dress. The Rose was remote controlled from the light booth and throughout the night it gave us trouble. As in not a lot of petals falling. So me, Cogsworth, and the Beast are in the West Wing before the iconic title song and ballroom dance, and Cogsworth says the line “Master, look at the rose, there’s so little time left.” ALL but 1 petal fell. So we didn’t think anything of it. FAST FORWARD to opening night, same scene. Cogsworth says the line, same thing happens and we looked shocked that we didn’t know what to do. All three of us looked literally gobsmacked and didn’t know what to do because literally the rose has one petal and we still have 15-20 minutes left of the show. It was like genie from Aladdin jaw drop. So we came up with a plan, and the director told the crew different times to let the petals fall, and the rose started to work so we’re thinking okay, the rose will not try our lives. Cut to the second weekend. We’re at the top of act two right after the wolf fight, just finished the scene where Belle tends to the Beast’s wound. Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and I are having our little scene. And Cogsworth says, “Have you taken a good look at the rose lately. It’s loosing petals at an alarming rate.” Poof! ALL but 2 petals fall. I hear the laughter from the audience and backstage, I look and think “Son of a bitch” and then say my line, which is in the script, with a wink “Clearly it’s time to give them a little push”. And then we continue through “Something There” and “Human Again” all while knowing we still have 45 mins left of the show, and only two petals on the rose. At that point it deserved its own credit on the cast list.

When I saw Chicago on broadway Velma forgot her line at the beginning of the second act and so she came on and said “can I get my damn line” because she was trying to get it from cast mates while she was coming on and it was so like her character that no one would have really notice except that billy flinn was cracking up and he could not stop eventually though someone gave her the line and the show went on as usual

The hardest moment not to laugh on stage was when my casts Mr Green had to kick a fake cat offstage but it hit Mrs Peacock in the face. Everyone on stage was shocked and we didn't know what to do. That’s our life as performers, we’re going to keep making mistakes time to time. This one time in my senior year of high school, we were doing a Christmas spectacular and one of our songs was Mr. Grinch and some of us forgot some words even after singing it so many times during practice. That’s at least one of the biggest fails, other than that I have not experienced any wardrobe malfunction or trips, etc. lol 😂 😅

My first big show after years of community theater. Was “Joseph”. I played the Baker. I also had a quick part of a guy w/camel who buy Joseph from his brothers. I entered the stage on a turn-table with a large life size 6’ foot camel 🐫 animatronic. He was off his mark and on the exit. Did not fit thru the exit door. He/ or She started climbing the doorframe. My improv skills kicked in and the show keep going.!! Gotta love invited dress shows full of theater people who will never let you forget !!! I once watched a lesser known musical called Peter and Paul in the Land of Nodd, because my dad was in the cast as P&P's grumpy father. There's a scene near the end of the play where he gifts his youngest son a rocking horse. He went over to pick it up by the handles and the horse head *popped* right off. And he just... stood there. For 4 seconds. And then he fastened the head back on and continued the scene with a chuckle. The best part was that the entire family is canonically poor, so little ol me simply thought the whole thing was scripted XD

I was conductor for the musical "Big." The pit was under the set (community theater!). I had a monitor to see and the only way I could hear was through headphones. During one of the big numbers, my headset completely died and I was flying blind while the tech people scrambled to get me sound again. I don't recall anything bad happening, but it was terrifying! I was also witness to a performance of Spider-Man where the show stopped when Peter Parker got stuck in a flying sequence. The set also misbehaved during Leap of Faith and the show temporarily stopped, too.

I was in Newsies last summer and we had a few mishaps, but the one that stands out is the painting. It's the scene where Jack pulls down the painting to tell Davey off about the strike. Our Jack pulls the rig go have the painting unravel and the entire painting just swings back and forth and doesn't unroll. Our poor Jack had to just ad lib about the painting. Well, I set the stage on fire once. In Austin, TX. I was the stage manager, up in the booth, and I fired off an onstage pyrotechnics squib that happened to have some character's sock tossed on top of it. It started to smolder. Luckily, I was able to make the dreaded announcement..."Ladies and gentlemen, please evacuate the theatre, blah blah blah..." It never really caught a flame, but the smoke was very intense...

Not on-stage mishaps as such but for much of my career I have presented to groups of people, mostly up to 50 but sometimes 300, on accounting things. I have had plenty of things go wrong from assorted technology failures to almost falling off the stage to fire alarms going off and on one occasion part of a light fitting falling on someone (fortunately without injury). The most memorable one was with a group of 50 accounting students in a room with only two very small windows in the doors to a lobby, which fortunately had some natural light. All the lights in the building went out so I was in an almost pitch-black room in front of 50 students. Fortunately, we were almost at the end of the day's final session. I just carried on talking for a couple of minutes whilst opening the doors to let some light in, which the class seemed at least mildly amused by. Another was presenting to 300 people when the slide presentation stuck then the entire rest of the day's presentation ran through on screen in about 10 seconds followed by tech guys joining me at the podium to sort it out whilst I made small talk with the audience. I once presented an event at a hotel in Exeter and found on arrival that the tech gear I would be using was in Plymouth (50 miles away). That made for a fun start to the afternoon whilst someone brought the gear to me by car. At one time, I worked for a company that had two venues in London. Due to a communications breakdown, I turned up at one location and my students were at the other, which was a 30-minute journey away across central London. Fortunately, a colleague stepped in to get things going whilst I dashed from one venue to the other. One day, I travelled to Liverpool to present a course the next day and I failed to set my alarm correctly. I woke up only about 30 minutes before the course was due to begin in the office, which was fortunately only a short walk away. I managed to shower, get ready and get from the hotel to the office with about one minute to spare and we started on time. On a different occasion, I completely lost my voice - no sound came out for two days (some will say that was a good thing). Possibly the worst moment was in 2016 on the day after the Brexit referendum when, at a conference in front of 300 people, the day began with the livestreaming of David Cameron's Downing Street announcement that he was resigning as Prime Minister of the UK. Straight after that, I was on stage to present on a highly technical accounting topic. I don't think I had the most attentive audience that morning. Rather like theatre, the show must go on and that was how I started the session.

During the big dance number in Blackrock, one of our extras slip, knock someone over which started a domino effect and more than half of the dancing ended up on their butts, they started laughing and shoving playfully until the music and lights were dimmed then off. Kind of fit the scenes, drunk teens at a party - dance and fall over. During 'A Christmas Carol' I fell over playing the ghost of Christmas yet to come. I could get back up because I was wearing stilts. So I'm laying to stage, hidden by fog, delivering all my lines as this disembodied voice.

I played Mary Poppins in a community production and on our Saturday Night show, just as the overture began to play, Michael says “I don’t feel good.” He ended up leaving scene 1 early because he had to throw up, and we had to improvise the whole scene where Mary meets the kids. He proceeded to leave early/arrive late to the next two scenes (Practically Perfect, Jolly Holiday) because he was throwing up inbetween scenes. He was okay the rest of the show, but we had to improvise a ton! That SAME show, just before the last scene of Act 1, it was my job to place valentine the doll in the right place on stage. But I also was carrying my hat, bag, and umbrella, so when I went to pick up the doll, it’s hair got tangled in the frilly part of the hat. I desperately tried to untangle the hat and doll before the lights came up, but I couldn’t fix it in time. So the lights came up and there I was holding both trying to get the props untangled before the kids have to fight over valentine and tear his arm. I finally said “Jane, we’re you playing with my hat? It seems that Valentines hair is stuck to it!” And just yanked the rest of the hair off from the hat. It ended up being fine, but it was SOO scary when it happened! I untangled bits of hair from that hat forever afterwards 😂

we did legally blonde in my school. we had two giant set pieces, both about 15 feet tall, that were setting the location between malibu / harvard. we were doing one of the numbers nearer the end (i believe it was the song "legally blonde"? it was the one in which elle's mom is like "let's take a picture!") so we're all gathered stage right, the whole ensemble and most of the cast, to take this picture, when the 15 foot set piece stage left falls over forward. If anyone had been stage left, we would have been hit and probably crushed by this set piece. it was mildly terrifying. we all just left the stage as planned and when we came back on the set crew and righted and weighed the piece down so it wouldn't fall again.

My biggest onstage blooper was when I was playing Judy in White Christmas. In "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing", Phil (my partner) and I were supposed to do a swan lift (which is where he flipped me backwards and up onto his shoulder). The lift was successful, but the skirt of my dress landed OVER HIS HEAD, so he couldn't see where he was going while spinning me, and everyone got to see my bloomers. Yay, live theatre! xD

Once I was playing Abner in 42nd Street, and it is the scene where Dorothy tells me that she is leaving show business right before Peggy is supposed to come out. Well...we finished our scene and we are waiting fir Peggy to come out...not coming out...waited a few more seconds...still not coming out. So we had to improvise a scene for about a minute before Peggy finally came out. It was SO stressful. Another funny thing that happened during this show was backstage before "We're in the Money". So I am changing into the costume, and the key part of the costume, the tap shoes which I had left on my chair, are not there. So I am stressing because I have to go on in a few seconds and I couldn't find them. So I went out and did the tap number in jazz shoes. After I got off stage I realized that my friend had them on because they thought they were his 😆

Right before the laendler scene, two of the kids have a little exchange with the maid. And since I was one of them, I had a quicker change than everyone else but one of my little bows in my hair had fallen out so my costumer decided to try and take the other one out and change the color. Needless to say, that took too long and I missed that whole scene. That also happened to be the night we recorded the show.

Oh I have so many on stage mishaps. But the one that comes to mind is during an Anita Mann contract on the MS Noordam, a Holland America ship. During Broadway In Concert the rest of the cast was singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" while Danielle and I danced centre stage. We each had a spotlight on us for when we separated during the choreography. So we separate and I stepped backward off of the stage into the darkness. I was in the spotlight... and then I wasn't. OOPS! And when I reappeared in the spotlight I just did a lot of arm choreography as I had sprained my ankle when I stepped off of the stage.

Of course, I can't see through the monkey mask so we had a very specific mark on the stage for where my chair i start the number in goes. The person in charge of doing that put it too far downstage and I didn't know this until the end of the number when I go to run into the stage left wing. I ran face first into a wooden beam, bounced off it into the Emcee who caught me, who then had to throw me into the wing because of how hard I bounced onto him or we both would've fell into the audience. I'm so glad i had two scenes before I had to be back out because we had to immediately get my Tylenol and tissue to jam up by nose because I drew blood from how hard I ran into a wall. The lights went down and the tech crew was supposed to move a piece of furniture on the stage to rotate the stage. That piece of furniture was half on the stationary part of the stage and the rotating part of the stage and it went crashing down of the stage and on the floor. The stage was maybe a foot off of the ground. Nothing was broken and everything was fine. I was really into it one night and when I shot myself (which is on a high platform), i collapsed but instead of going straight to the floor, I hit my head off of the railing and lost control over the fall and smashed my head onto the floor. I was supposed to be off stage but i came too when the next scene started and crawled down the stairs trying not to be seen. I was definitely seen. Long story short, I still don't remember changing or doing the rest of the show, including the full Superstar number. Plus the sound effects malfunctioned that night and the sound of my head hitting the stage was so loud, the technicians thought they started working again. But I'd give anything to be able to be on stage again right now.

I know this is not really an actual show but kind of at the same time. But i was in a dance recital one year that was entitled best of Broadway. There were 3 acts where each act was a different show. This happened in the 1st act where the show was Cats. I had 3 dances back to back to back. I was in Macvity the Mystery Cat into Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer into Memory. The mess up happened in my quick change so the audience didn't really see it unless they knew which dances that I was in. But what happened what one of my spenders snap as i was doing my quick change into my Mungojerrie costume. So i only got to dance like the last 30 seconds to a minute of that dance that night. Luckily enough all of us where trained to keep doing the show without a hatch and i was able to relay on the people who were helping me clam down because I was having kind of a small panic attack. SOO ABESSING !!!!! Anther thing was that later that summer me and the same dance group where performing some of the routines at a local music festival and we were our finale number which was You cant stop the beat from hairspray and at the beginning of the routine me and anther person where supposed to have a little duet section but the other person got overheated. So it ended up to be a solo section. The audience started tp clapped all the way though that section and some of them were saying my name, so i could get though that section of the dance. The most nervous I was during a dance number.

When I did a production of My Fair Lady during the Ascot scene. When Eliza yells come on Dover move your bloomin arse my character was to faint into my date. My shoes got tripped up into my skirt I fall/faint much more then I’m supposed too and my date and I fall off the stage. My parcel goes flying and we land next to the pit with the musicians.

I was playing Joseph once, and I was barefoot at the end of Act one when they drag me out and I come back for two, and I’m in a prison cell again. Well, I realized when I went back out in the dark that I had my little slippers on that I would wear backstageand I had like two seconds so I kick them off into the orchestra pit and they hit the Timpany drum

Not a very big blooper, but I was in Humbug and something was wrong with the set. And it was in the way of my path. I was leading a whole line of people and we had to meet other people coming from the other side. There were also people right infront of the set so I had to step over it. And It wasn’t tall but it was a pretty big step. Luckily no one tripped and it worked out fine. This was on closing night of the show.

And the next time I did humbug I had to march over a box (1) back and forth. There was this trim on the box (2) and as I was marching over the box (3) I kicked the trim off partially. It was on the back side so no one in the audience could see it but later someone sits on the box (4) and he was trying to get the trim to stay on the box (5) as he was signing and saying lines. This one was the last dress rehearsal.

In "She Loves Me" we had a turntable with three sectioned walls: interior and exterior of the shop and a larger section that was various locations. During one exterior number when seasons pass there were two cradle drops where leaves would fall, then snow would fall. They were controlled by literal light switches at the stage right podium. I would always watch this scene with the floor manager who hit the switches. During a matinee the turntable pivoted the shop upstage and we heard something fall and break - like perfume bottles - so the floor manger left and wandered back to see if there was broken glass. He didn't make it back in time and I heard the SM call the drop cue. I then heard the floor manager yell "oh shit" and start running back to the podium. I reached up and hit the leaf-drop switch. Everything cool. He runs back and thanks me for doing it. Then the snow cue happens, he hits the switch ... and nothing. The scene continues and the actors move into the shop which turns back downstage. For some reason then the snow cradle decided to dump *all the snow at once* _inside the shop._

I went to a theater near me, I was in Footloose playing in the ensemble and I was in the background with the church choir. It was the middle of the run and I was feeling completely under the weather that night so an hour before the show started, I was wearing pajama pants under my choir robes because I was ready while everyone else is getting ready. We did our first number and then I sat in the dressing room waiting for the final number of act 1 because there was an extremely long gap between two numbers. And just moments before the number starts, I looked down and realized that I was still wearing pajamas under my costume! I was wearing them during the first number! Hopefully no one noticed because I was in the background! I couldn't believe all of that happened and I was super embarrassed! The worst part was that no one in the cast or crew even noticed or told me just before the show had started! To make things worse, my aunt and uncle were at the show and they noticed!

Not Broadway, I was calling The Heiress and in Act I we had a chipmunk visit the stage not once but twice. The SL ASM was running her track and catch/herd the chipmunk whenever it ran offstage. From the booth I was letting her know where it was US, DS, etc. The women were in the big antebellum hoop skirts. All I could think was, “Please don’t run up a skirt. Please don’t run up a skirt.” None of the actors saw it, but the audience did.

This is not a broadway it’s just a school play my character called samuel the man who walk or wandering around when its my turn my line is like laughing then the long line it so happened after I laughed I forgot what iam gonna say maybe I stop for about 10 seconds all of my classmates staring at me then my leader whispered the next word to me I remembered then I finished my line it’s so embarrassing to the max after then every year if we have a play at school I always back out or pick the character with no line or just the backstage crew
