This is Lovebites Metal - a new sub-genre. They combine the best of power metal, speed metal, thrash metal, and progressive metal and make something that surpasses all of those genres.

There were three things that made me very happy after I first watched this music video. The first, of course, is the song itself which is now easily in my top 10 Lovebites songs. The second is the use of Fami in the song. I am hoping that this is how she will be used throughout the entire album but it could also be that this was one of the last songs completed for the album which would have given them more time to integrate Fami's skills more fully. The third is that this is an Asami/Mao composition. Asami's first two contributions were Epilogue and A Frozen Serenade so I assumed that those were to be the type songs to expect from her. When Winds of Transylvania was released I was impressed by her ability to crank it up when composing an anime theme. But then came Paranoia and I was amazed. My understanding is that she composed Paranoia because it was the type of Lovebites song she enjoys singing the most. She has done it again with Judgment Day but on a much grander scale. With this song, I have concluded two things - 1) Asami is a top tier power metal vocalist, male or female and 2) Asami and Mao (who for years wrote for Fuki) know how to compose songs that shows off Asami at her best. As great as the instrumentals are in Judgment Day, it is Asami that shines throughout (including her acting performance in the music video) and it is her vocals that stick the landing. I am even more excited about the upcoming album since we will get at least one more Asami/Mao composition and at least 5 from Miyako.

I do agree, it's like Jimi Jamison once said: "It's the singer, not the song." You can have the best song ever written, if the singer can't deliver (e.g. not his register or style) you don't get the audience.

Power Metal was never a favorite of mine. I'm a thrash/speed guy first. I love guitar solos. Exodus is my favorite thrash band. The late 70's to the early 90's was the best era of metal, period. I became a metalhead in 1971 thanks to Zeppelin. This song is my all-time favorite song, and Lovebites is my all-time favorite band. Miyako is my all-time favorite musician. Go figure.

Couldn't agree more! I still remember how much I had been looking forward to AJFA, because I had loved Jason's clearly audible bass on Flotsam and Jetsam's debut, and what a huge letdown this album was for me - not only in this regard, though. I've been asking myself if Fami joining Lovebites might give us an idea of what it could have been like if Les Claypool had joined Metallica (provided they hadn't done to his bass what they did to Jason's).

After cliff Metallica didn't care who the next bass player was. Just needed a spot to be filled so they don't look silly with no bass player. Lovebites wanted the best bass player they could find to match them and now they are all on the same level. Even the singer has improved her voice and singing-english accent. Can actually understand her now. Incredible return I would have to say. Of course Metallica wanted a great bass player, they just didn't want him to take the attention away from them.

Lovebites staple is actually power metal, Iron Maiden style. Thrash is perhaps the second genre they compose regularly and they do virtually everything in between and either side. JPU records (the British licensees) showed the track list for the album due on 22nd February. It looks very much like a concept album, or at least an album with a consistent theme. This is the second track. I’m seeing them in Tokyo three weeks after release. I’m betting that they open the show with this because they now use a video intro and this one fits the bill.

The beauty (no pun intended) of Lovebites are the different styles of metal they play. With the exception of a few bands, power metal is generally not a style of metal I prefer. Lovebites is one of the exceptions. This song absolutely kicked my ass. I can't get enough of it. As far as Fami goes, no disrespect to Miho, who is a fantastic bass player, but Fami is at a whole different level on the bass. These ladies constantly up their level of talent time and time again. Regarding Miyako, who looks stoic while she is playing, I am convinced that while she is playing, she is writing new songs in her head. The woman is a musical savant!!

Thanks for the reaction! LOVEBITES are the GODDESSES of heavy , power , thrash metal ! But LOVEBITES isn't just limited to these genres of metal. In 2018 , LOVEBITES won the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for "Best New Band" (London,UK). The winners of the GOLDEN GODS Award in different years and in various categories were such famous bands and musicians, such as : Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Twisted Sister, Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister, Zakk Wylde, Nikki Sixx, Joe Perry, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Slayer, Saxon, Nightwish, Rammstein, Sabaton, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy (and this is not a complete list). LOVEBITES is a Japanese all-female metal band, formed in 2016 by former Japanese heavy metal band DESTROSE members Miho( bass, backing vocals) and Haruna(drums). The band has successfully performed at various major international rock-festivals many times .In the spring of 2018, LOVEBITES performed on the Japanese leg of the Warped Tour. In August 2018, they performed at Wacken Open Air (Germany), becoming the first Japanese female rock band to perform at the festival. Also in August 2018 they performed on the main stage of Bloodstock Open Air (UK). In 2019, LOVEBITES performed at the Download Festival in Donington (UK) and Download Festival in Madrid (Spain). Their performance in Donington was named by the festival organizers and Metal Hammer magazine as one of the highlights of the festival! In the same year they performed at the Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) and the Summer Sonic Festival (Japan). Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic that began in 2020 prevents LOVEBITES from performing at festivals and forced a drastic reduction of concerts. LOVEBITES is a phenomenal band, all the ladies are talented musicians! For 5 years they have recorded about 50 songs and all the songs are very good ! Plus, in February 2023, the 4th studio album "Judgement Day" will be released with 10 new songs. 🐺Miho - bass, backing vocals (in August 2021 she left the band). 🐺Haruna - drums. 🐺Midori - guitars, backing vocals. 🐺Miyako (Mi-Ya)- guitars, piano, keyboards, backing vocals. 🐺Asami - lead vocals, piano. 🐺Fami - bass, backing vocals (since October 2022). 🐺Miho has been playing the piano since the age of 5. She started playing the bass guitar in school. Great bass player! The fact that such a wonderful band appeared is, first of all, the merit of Miho. She came up with the idea of starting a band and what kind of music the band would play, a combination of power metal and "old school" heavy metal. Miho was able to find and unite all these talented ladies in LOVEBITES. 🐺Haruna has played drums since she was thirteen years old, she also plays keyboards. Haruna is the smallest (4 '9 ") , but appearances are deceiving. When Haruna sits down at the drums, this is the "little BIG Engine." She is one of the best drummers in Japan. 🐺Midori (blond hair) has been playing the piano since she was two years old and the electric organ since she was eight. She started studying guitar at the age of 20. Super guitarist, "Crazy Shredder". She surpasses many male guitarists in speed and technique of playing the guitar. Graduated from ESP / MI JAPAN ( Osaka ) , GIT-DX department (superfast guitar department). ESP / MI JAPAN is an International Music Institute , headquartered in Hollywood, California, USA. 🐺Miyako (black hair) has been playing the piano since the age of three, received a classical education (piano) and wanted to pursue a career as a pianist. She has been playing the guitar since the age of 18. Super guitarist! They call her "The Golden Touch" and she is a real musical genius. Miyako is the main composer of the band, she wrote over 50% of the music. * In terms of teamwork , synchronization and harmonization of guitars , Midori and Miyako today are perhaps the best pair of guitarists in the world playing metal. One music critic said that two guitarists of this level (Midori and Miyako) in the same band is a crime!😊 🐺Asami started with R&B and soul music . She studied classical ballet for about 16 years (this is noticeable in her movements on stage, especially the movements of her hands). Started ballet lessons at the age of two. After leaving school, Asami lived for some time in the US, where she came to study jazz and hip hop dance. Plays the piano. Asami wrote most of the lyrics of the band's songs. 🐺Fami is 20 years old, plays bass, keyboards, guitar, writes songs, sings. She has already released her solo album, which she dedicated to graduating from school. Despite his youth, Fami has experience of performing with famous musicians. All songs LOVEBITES are written in English. Unlike other metal bands, LOVEBITES are always on stage in white dresses . White dresses are their style. The Wolf is the mascot of LOVEBITES and is featured on all band's albums except the first EP "The Lovebites". The band's fans call themselves the 🐺Wolfpack🐺

What you say seems to apply to several people, including myself, because except for a very few exceptions to the rule, I've never been much into Power Metal, whereas Thrash Metal has always been my overall favourite metal subgenre, but I love Lovebites' Power Metal songs about as much as their Thrash Metal songs - some of them even better than some of their Thrash Metal songs! But I have also read comments by people coming from the other side, i.e. saying that they usually don't like Thrash Metal, but that they love Lovebites' Thrash Metal songs. Thus it looks like Lovebites in a way manage to unite fans of different subgenres. I even enjoy songs like "Dancing With the Devil" or "Spellbound", though I otherwise usually don't care about music in this vein.

In the reaction to "Empty Daydrem", it was surprising that the 1979 release Reo Speedwagon "Back On The Road Again" was pointed out to me, which surprised me. Until then, I thought it was influenced by Michael Jackson's "Beat It" (released in 1982), performed by JENNIFER BATTEN, one of Miyako's top five guitar heroes." As for "Empty Daydrem", I think Miyako's composition was influenced by "Beat It", but I didn't know there was an original source. I look forward to your analysis. Please keep up the good work with LOVEBITES. P.S.. Since you often talk about Miyako's guitar I have attached the material of Miyako's magic modified DEAN guitar. [V Select Flame Maple Floyd PG Trans Red MYK] Miyako's DEAN Signatur Guitar (red V-shaped guitar) replaced with Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker Set Gold pickups and a custom pickguard. Its custom pickguard is slightly different in shape and size from those for general sale use. [Dean Icon USA Flame Top -Faded Denim] USA Icon is a passive pickup converted to an active pickup. Miyako's DEAN Guitar replaced with Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker Set Nickel pickups. The rear pickup has been replaced with an Ovaltone ROSSO-鵺-NUE DEVICE (red) and the front pickup with an Ovaltone NERO-鵺-NUE DEVICE (black) condenser.

Every song is derivative of something else, the influences always peak out. We listen to so much music daily that it's impossible not to hear some of the influences. I love that. On an average day, we listen to 70's and 80's rock mainly. When a new metal band we like releases something, we dive into that. But this channel has provided us with a much broader appreciation of other Countries interpretations of the music we are familiar with listening to daily. I could do a week long segment on songs that sound like other songs. But, I love them all. It's amazing with as limited the amount of chords there are on a guitar the millions of songs created on them.

Miyako, (Dean Girl) does most of the composing for the band. Along with being world class, classically trained pianist that taught herself to play the guitar when she was 18. Yes, she probably is bored, she can do anything musically, even play both a keyboard and guitar at the same time. Watch "Burden of Time" live studio version for proof. See "Swan Song" with then Chopin (Show-pan) intro, if you want to her talent on piano and guitar, which she composed the music also.

Though most of their songs have a dominant sub-genre theme, they are rarely all one style or another. The intermingling of their many and varied influences have basically created their own unique genre of metal, Lovebites Metal, the evolution of classic metal. And their choice of Fami as their new bassist shows they not only continue to defy stereotyping, they shun it.
