Short Broholmer description:
The Broholmer is a mastiff type of a dog with powerful and muscular appearance. They have large head and deep chest. The average height is between 70-75 cm, which is 28-30 inches and weight is typically between 40-70 kgs. The females are naturally smaller and lighter than males.
The Broholmer has a short coat that is close to the body. They do have a thick undercoat which sheds quite a lot seasonally. The most common colors are yellow with black mask and golden red. Black Broholmers are also accepted by all breed standards, but they are quite rare. This breed can have white markings on the chest, feet and tail.

Yes, "TheBrolhomer" is a unique breed that practically no-one has the breed.

He was part of our family for 14 years. He behave like human: he stole a cake from the table, some beef from the kitchen and he was sleeping in bed when we were looking for him. He was snoring as a human. The most intelligent dog we have ever had. We miss Donald a lot.. he even opened the door as a if he was the owner of the house.

I used to see them in our cities more than in the countryside where I live now. While they seem calm, even tempered and quiet (observation at a distance, no personal experience), I've seen some ride their bikes with their Broholmer running alongside.

@@Rocadog Not recently. I'm not sure about one dog in our town who fits every Broholmer description except it's coat is dark brindle. Could be "unacceptable" coat or some mix where I just can't easily see what the mix is.

I went to look for more info on the breed, since a website I found listed it as a good beginner dog. I doubted that immediately, and went for more info to find out about the breed. To my knowledge, multiple breeds are unsuitable for novice and inexperienced owners

The breed resembles a not so wrinkly AmericanBloodHound in the working-class category but not like a Rottweiler or CarneCorso with less attitude. Would to have a unique breed like that here the states are no litters now.

I guess they do resemble the Bloodhound, but more athletic and as you said less wrinkly.

@@Rocadog When I look at this breed I can't help but think it was used in the creation of dogs like the Presa canario when they were brought back and outbred to do so. The white markings on the chest and the lean body ears and shape of the dog it reminds me of the taller leaner ones. I'd bet money these or simply great danes were used

Impossible timing, but I got a shelter dog in 2011 at about a year old that the vet thought had bloodhound in it. I noticed some Boarbols looked similar- but after he had passed away this year at nearly 14, Google Lens started analysing all his old photos as Broholmer. I started reading and the personality fit exactly. At the beginning I thought: what have I got myself into? For one thing he knew words, and the brother Queensland I added later ( the one I use as avy, which is Not him) did all commands, but my hound only responded if it was in a sentence structure or a phrased request. Such an unusual 'dog friend' in so many ways. I do not see how I could have stumbled onto a Broholmer where I lived- yet they are the only dogs online that even remotely remind me of him. It was kind of a training nightmare at first, yet we made so much progress. Wish there was room to explain. I had to use one wolf behavior trick to get him out of my upper space and trying to snap my arm, as he came in pretty red zoned. Had to subjugate prey drive to bugs...and other adjustments. He ended up a helper dog, even helping abused or nervous animals- even the cats. No fear of loud noises. Helped me balance and cook...petsonal peptection but socialized and trustworthy. I wish they [ Broholmers] were here. I miss him terribly, and by all photos and descriptions , his hair type, red fur with mask' weight, loose neck skin, eye expressions, temperment, intelligence, heart, drive, adaptability, his demanding bent, loyalty, trustworthiness...all of it...was very similar. If we had them, that is the only dog now I would be absolutely sure to adopt. Though I may help rescue senior dogs later. I have looked at mastiff rescue sites. No Broholmers around Central Tx. Sadly.
