It must take 2-3 times longer to do a task when you have to video record it at the same time. It’s like being a director, camera man, lighting, sound person and an actor. Not to mention the time it takes to scrub through all the video afterwards and edit it. Very impressed.

yeah, grew up in a rural area. County refused to do anything except the most basic road maintenance because there weren't enough people living there "to make it worthwhile" (meaning, to be a powerful voting block in council elections). We had no running water, no cable, no sewers, substandard electricity (we couldn't run the oven and the hot water heater at the same time or we'd have a blackout, not enough power on the lines, for example), no heating gas (twice a year we'd get heating oil delivered into a large tank). And that was the 1980s...

I'm pretty sure that's not government putting in the fiber, it's a private company. Some people actually like living 'out there' where they won't have many neighbors and will put up with little to no infrastructure. How did we all do it before the Internet and IPhone took over everyone's lives? I will tell you times were better then, much better. Except for Grant and Laura, of course!@@jwenting

As a wireless Internet installer, I wish fiber in the rural wasn't a thing. Us small companies get crushed by the big telcos who got $billion$ to over saturate Nebraska. We don't do phone (no one wants a home phone) only broadband Internet, so not eligible for government free hand outs. We fight for every inch we can get.

My cousin in Colorado runs a land scape & demo business & was demoing a building next to a hospital & was told the gas was shout off. He dug up a gas line & could hear the gas escaping. He used a leatherman's knife & cut a small pine tree off & made a stopper out of the drunk & then call the gas company.

When they put underground fiber optic cables in our neighborhood they started next door and used directional horizontal drilling under my entire front yard (including my irrigation system) and came out in the neighbors yard on the other side. The oil and gas industry around here have turned directional drilling into a fine art and it is amazing to watch.

We had a directional drilling crew running a new service line to our house from the new water main the city was putting in. They drilled dead center through our four inch sewer line. Had to tear up part of our five rear old concrete driveway to fix it. :( At least we didn't have to pay for it!

Watching it today. Saturday the 14th. We're " enjoying " that weather now. Cold, damp, pretty good steady rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be party sunny, but it's Sunday and nobody will be doing much. Besides, it'll be muddy in the fields. Glad everyone and everything is okay and home safe and sound. Equally happy that the kittens are pretty much lined up with families! Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

We use vertical drilling rigs to tunnel underground, then when the drill is fully extended, they attach the fiber sleave to the drill then retract it pulling the conduit through. Typically they pull 3 conduits together. But hey I live in a big city. Laying fiber runs about $25k per mile. But man, running the house on 2gbps, rock solid reliability is a game changer.

Very cool on the fiber! You don't see them laying innerduct with that method here in NH, a.k.a: The Granite State. Though, I had to get temporary fiber and copper between a hospital and an old house on the property once and had their landscape company use their ditchwitch to pull an irrigation line between the buildings, which I pulled the cables through. I was only suppose to be for 6 months, ended up being almost 5 years.
