Well done in the Sportage

1st, thanks for the videos, including the one on the lift kit. It was a really nice job on the bumper / winch set up. I'm going to add a trailer hitch with a 2 in receiver and also mount a receiver on the front with a winch on a stinger to be kept in the back of my rig. The Harbor Freight winch is only rated for a 5% duty cycle at full load so I'm looking at the Warn 4500 lb unit. I have a Polaris Rzr trail that we really enjoy. With the trail model we can access the quad trails also. It has a Harbor Freight winch on it, but only weighs 1500 lbs loaded. This past year I was thinking it would be nice to have something enclosed with heat and AC to extend our riding season. After spending quite a bit of time researching options I settled on the Chevy Tracker or the Kia Sportage of around the 2000 vintage. I found a nice low miles 2001 Sportage in Tacoma, Wash and trailered it back home to Salem, Oregon. I have to fix the auto locking hub set up and the AC. Then I have found a mini-Detroit Locker style 3rd member to give me true 3 wheel drive just like my Rzr has. I saw the video of you breaking your exhaust. With true 3 wheel drive getting stuck like that is much harder. Since I don't trust the seller, I'm going to have the timing belt and water pump changed. Then with new aggressive tires, I should be good to go for at least 9 months of the year. I want to take a good look at the exhaust because this is often restricted going over the rear axle. In the past I have increased power by 20% by having larger pipe installed. I have been test driving my Kia and I'm amazed at just how peppy it is. More than I expected. I can gain speed up our steep and really tall hill just out of town. I think I will make the Kia my around town car and save my other car for longer trips where I want cruise control and a more luxury feel. At my age, between this and my other car, I may never need another car. What is nice is that on my 24' trailer, I can haul my Kia and Rzr at the same time.

I'm going to get one of these. I have a Polaris Rzr trail which we really enjoy, but at times we desire to be out of the dust and in a road machine. Also, we would like to be able to ride in the wet winter here in western Oregon. If you read this, please tell me where you got the neat front bumper for a wench. thank you.

i sued the jack and lifted the car a bit and then added detriutus to underneath the wheel in order to get out of a bind. hope this can help you
