Thank you for sharing this. I repaired one tine on each rack and they look great. I had my daughter paint over the gray epoxy with acrylic paint to an ivory type color before staining. I used minwax penetrating stain of a lighter color (IPSWICH PINE 221) and then sprayed with spray on matte polyurethane. Came out great, slightly shiny. Friends could not tell which tines were replaced even after I told them some had been fabricated.

Good video . I had a broken tyne on 1 beam. It got ran over. I also have pieces of antlers laying around . I took a tyne from a scrap antler that was about the right size . Drill a hole in both . Cut a piece of wire clothes hanger and super glued it together. Came out good . The colors were a little off . Some time in the sun should even them out .

Hey Hunter..i have used this method twice for staining..havent repaired any antlers with epoxy sculpt yet,but I did purchase it..i find the color to be a great match..but I personally don't like the shine that's left on the antler..i found if you take final finish steel wool(0000) and lightly drag it over the antler..it knocks the shine down quite a bit..more of a natural look..which I prefer..and as always thanks for the great videos and your willingness to help out 👍👍

I had a question, I am fixing one for someone so I never tried before. In his case I have the other piece. Can you use both pieces and glue them together, if so, would you still run a wire between both parts, the tine and the antler. Both pieces mate up to each other perfectly, but I’m thinking, if I’m mating the original 2 parts back together, is it better to still use a coat hanger or will super glue of some sort be long strong enough to hold the parts together, thanks!

Hi, I have a question. At 5:13 in the video, it appears the rebuilt tines go from the grey color it dries as, to the almost finished stained color. What was the step you used to get to the matched up stained color? When I stained my shed, the grey epoxy & the existing antler didn't seem to match up well. Thanks for your help & for taking the time to make the video. Very helpful
@usskullhunter
@usskullhunter 6 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. So I applied 1-2 coats just to the repaired epoxy first, let it dry and they added a clear coat to lock it on, Then after that I went over the whole antler to blend both areas. Adding the clear coat allows you to wipe off the last coat of stain in order to get the lighter highlights. Hope that helps!

Honestly any one will do. They are advertised as different colors but they all kinda come out as the same color grey.

Not true.Since I submitted this question I've used different colors and they are all different. The brown shows only brown, the white is white

@@stevechance4422 ahh good to know! A few years ago this was a common complaint about them all pretty much being the same. Thanks for letting me know.

Why would you do it that way? I take a point from another antler and attach with wire. Then you only have to patch at the joint. I use Sculpall 2 part epoxy. Too much time and work doing it your way.

Yes, an antler tip would be best but if you didn't have one matching you could do it this way

Hey Ashlyn, just paint to match and then add a clear coat and then proceed to staining. I have done it with good results.
