BROKEN Steering Post While Climbing the KILLER DRAINAGE!!

While smashing our sleds up the gnarly drainage a steering post breaks on one of the arctic cats, and we have to recover it from the mountain. After a whole bunch of work we finally get it to the trail. We've been breaking a lot of stuff on the snowmachines lately. #whompit

You can usually get away with running a single bar riser to another riser to the bars, if you have risers on your bars at least. Or maybe have a pair in the pack for the cats

Double box wrench down into the post, so the angled ends go outwards, then you can squeeze them together to get the riser overtop, then hammer a pair of pliers down between the wrenches through the riser, wrap everything in paracord. But make sure you put the handlebars on straight when your skis are actually at 30 degree angle to make it interesting and when you make a turn the handlebars are aimed right at your junk.... Thats what i did anyways, was a long ride out of eagles like that.

Sounds like that also would work! I rode out of eagles pass from way back past the cabin with one ski and wouldn’t recommend it 😂 That’s a great place to ride but there’s a lot of landmines to hit in the burn.

Tow rope from ski loops to another sled. Other sled keeps her straight and broken sled can help along with engine. Next time ;)

Literally the same thing happened on my 2016 cat. Same place it broke too. My group made the same rig to get my sled out with the stick in the steering post. Hammer that stick down in there further and itll ride out haha good on ya boys for keeping the cats alive out there

I had the plate at the bottom of the steering post sheer off of the bulkhead on my old m8 years ago, was able to ride it out and steer with some considerable side to side play in the post 😅 Some custom tig welding and she’s stronger than ever and still on there. Sucks to end the day early but good to see you guys got it out with relative ease!

I had the same thing happen to my on my 2011 M8 😂 This won’t be happening again as I’m getting the whole post internally sleeved with heavy wall and welded back together.

@@ben_syxxes8179 Hell ya, be way stronger than stock. I did enjoy the tree usage that was a pretty neat idea for a quick bush fix. Always entertaining to see the ways guys rig things up to get outta the woods, bale wire, zip ties, pipe clamps, vice grips, gorilla tape, etc

This makes me want to carry a little hand drill in my tool kit. Could have drilled a hole through the post and used mechanics wire to tie it back on.

Seen multiple of these broken among the sled youtubers I watch. Looks like something that needs to be preemptively reinforced. Plus carry a spare set of risers.

Definitely going to sleeve the inside of the post with heavy wall pipe to avoid this ever happening again

Im jealous. Here in NY, USA its been probably one of the worse seasons in the past 20 years. Last year was shot too. I have approx. 800km on the sled. Makes me just want to ride my motorcycle. Sad.

@@corylebo3907 I have also heard that 600 is supposed to be impressive. As far as the bigger engine size I’ve heard all sorts of numbers so I gave up guessing until it’s released
