I've watched this again and again over the years and this is by far my favorite short film of all time. The layers, the acting, the significance of EACH AND EVERY WORD. I don't think anyone can make a better short film. This is it. The pinnacle. And I've found it.

This film is a powerful statement on loneliness. People give excuses for not communicating these days; getting to know your neighbor etc. Maybe it’s because they are protecting themselves from hurt (physical and emotional) but by doing that, are we getting more hurt? What do u guys think? And to the guys who made this: Kudos!❤

The excellence of this short film cannot be described in words! *SPOILER ALERT* For those who do not understand the role of the riddle in this short film, the man who dubbed himself as '3D' asked Kristen the following riddle: "A man is waiting for an elevator. When it comes, he walks in. Now, a second later, someone else follows him in. Now there are two people in this elevator, right? The first guy presses the button of the floor he wants to get off on. The second person extends her hand, presses a whole other button entirely, says "Hello." The door closes. Now, although they pressed two different buttons, somehow they manage to get off on the exact same floor. How does this happen?" 3D claims that the answer to this riddle is the key to how to talk him out of this. Kristen solves the riddle. She states that the first person presses the button of the floor he wants to get off on and the second person presses the button labelled 'Door Close' 3D speaks about homonyms (Each of two or more words having the same spelling but different meanings.) The homonym is the word 'close'. In this situation, the literal meaning of 'close' is 'not open' whereas the metaphorical meaning is 'near'. Kristen and the man lived on the same floor. Kristen lived in 3C and the man lived in 3D. His door was close to hers.

+Tamara John Understood that but why would he hinge his life on the riddle like that? Was it because of all that "observer" talk and him feeling invisible-especially if his own neighbor can't help him-to the world?
@humbertojimmy
@humbertojimmy 8 жыл бұрын
+Tamara John Yeah, but that leaves many questions unanswered. If the guy knows that she leaves next door and even has her phone number... why doesn't he even know her name? One would think that he had a very good reason to call her and not someone else, as if she played an important role in his story, but in the end she's just a perfect stranger (and he has her number somehow)...

Raine Katie yeah, that's what I got. But she was the only one who said hello. Standing mute next to someone you want to get to know especially if they broke the ice first by saying hello is crazy. Maybe say hello back, introduce yourself instead of the mind games. I can see if she rejected or was unfriendly to him in the elevator then all this would have come together for me. But it was just random. Glad she got home safely. Dude was psycho. Movie was ok but could have been better. Anyway, good job to the actors!👍

Most people here aren't making much sense and just seem interested in injecting forced sense into the plot. There are many questions unanswered, and still nobody gives a quick direct response. I asked how does he not even know something as basic about her as her name, but knows a much harder to come by detail such as her phone number? Without surprise, no one answered me.

AWESOME !! That was an amazing film. At the end, I felt more empathy for Kristen than even for the man calling for help. She was his lifeline, and it was he that made the decision not to accept it. He really didn't want help, because Kristen offered it to him and proved she cared. Now she's left with the trauma of what happened. He was the one who didn't care,not her. John. I also subbed.

He was trying to drive her mad, and to suicide herself. That's what all sick people do. Many people today commit suicide to punish others close to them for "not caring" enough. But look who is so devoid of caring that they would try to snare their loved ones into such guilt. Evil is always the same in that it accuses the other of what it is doing.

He fully intended to follow through. That's why he used a hominem that the average person would not have guessed. He obviously enjoys mental olympics and challenging people. Everyone disappoints a person with high expectations and a sharp mind. Everyone ranks below him intellectually, maybe morally too. SPOILER FOLLOWS He's either sick of people or fed up with himself. Either one suffices to prompt being triggered. He knew she would hear the gunshot. Narcissicist.

This is SO BRILLIANT! I have watched it several times...for some reason every now and then I come across it. It underscores how we don't SEE each other anymore. People are in their own little worlds, and we walk past each other daily without even saying hello. It shows how we can be surrounded by others, yet totally isolated. A sad commentary.

HA. Ok, I should not laugh at that. Except I couldn't help thinking that many who saw this would agree with the comments that he's selfish and was more interested in hurting someone else than getting help.

honestly this is better than any of the mainstream hollywood crap these days.. i would watch this over the garbage dished out in the theaters now.. amazing acting, great plot and writing, good story. reminds me of the old dark dramatic suspense movies back in 2006 and prior, when films were real and had feeling to them. props.
