An easy way to align the bars when fitting the stem is to fold it and clip it into the catch. Once you tighten the stem bolt and unfold it, it should be in the correct position.

Quick helpful tip: Before you remove the chain from the tensioner, release the rear triangle (like you are folding) and fold the triangle. You can now easily remove the chain while holding the tensioner so as to not allow it to spring back. If the bike is in a work stand, just let the triangle drop. Do this when installing the chain also.

I have changed my tensioner to a nice golden metal version as my bike, after several tries, also expensive versions, where the length didn't fit my model bike! Also versions having more holes/distances for placing the axle (One must fit!), but still not being the correct version. I then found one being the same length but the new "metal wheels" made a lot of noise and chain wear, so I went back to the original plastic wheels, and they function, at least for now. My bike is mostly for travels and service, so it isn't used every day.

I've noticed this too. Each tensioner does affect the chain and ride quality.

You can slightly open up or wedge the clamp area of the handlebar clamp using a flat head screwdriver or similar so you don’t need to force the handlebar using a mallet or hammer when removing and re-installing. Save your bar from scratches too😊 or when you have loads of scratches on those Ti parts of the bike you can get a Scotchbrite pads to freshen them up…just follow the sanding pattern of the original.

That was my thought as well. But I don´t use a screwdriver. I remove the Screw and us a small metal plate or smth. between the clamp. Then I insert the screw from the opposite side and tighten it so much, that I can just easily remove the handlebar. Using this method i don´t "overwiden" the clamp and have a free hand to remove and reinstall the handlebar. Especially helpfull, wenn you use the m bar. Sorry for bad english. Hope you could understand what I wanted to say. Greetings from Munich 🙂

Hi Shu. Another great video, and glad your parts came back repaired and were in good order. Quick question on Titanium parts: are you using (is it necessary to use) a Ti-specific grease, like anti-seize or a copper based product? I just bought a bunch of Titanium parts (seatpost, handlebar, stem, hinge clamps, easy wheels) though having some second thoughts about putting 3rd party parts on a brand new bicycle - I’m not the experienced mechanical whiz that you are - even though the weight reduction would be wonderful. Been getting conflicting info on Ti as Ti is reactive and can fuse (“gall”?? “cold welding”???). Any thoughts on that would be much appreciated. Thank you.
@BromptonFamilyTime
@BromptonFamilyTime Жыл бұрын
I just use regular Park Tools grease. Any type of grease will work fine. Just make sure you have the right torque specs. Titanium nuts and bolts can strip easily so take your time installing them and don't rush. Which brand did you go with?

Hi Shu. Thank you for the tip re: Titanium bolts. The parts I ordered are from Ti39, I believe they are based in Hong Kong. Seems to be of good quality - they answered my questions and the parts came very well packaged. Of course the first thing I checked was the space in the stem clamp. 👍 I may wait to attempt to replace all the parts until the original steel malfunctions or rusts or I get tired of the bruising from carrying 20 lbs because of the threading issue you mention. Still amazed by this bike - I did the Twin Lights 30 mile route last weekend - hills were hard going for sure but only got off to push my bike uphill 3x. As an inexperienced rider, I credit having been able to complete the course to the Brompton. Love it! Thank you again!

Hi may I know if you end up not using any aftermarket Titanium Stem on your Brompton? Tempted to change my C line with Ti S stem. But the reviews vary, some said its good some said its flex too much hence affect overall experience. My current C line. Mods with Ti Fork and Ti Triangle(*+-8.9kg), but wanna shave a little bit more with Ti Stem. Hope can get some insight from you 😉👍. Love you channel ❤ and Tan tan 😁.

I am still using the TiParts Workshop replacement one and it has been problem free. The flex in the stem is not a problem with me. I actually don't notice any. If you are the type of rider that pushes into the stem then you may notice it. I love the way it looks too. It makes it look sporty too.

I have lately found a Chinese Firm intend on making a "carbon stem post" for an ordinary Brompton, which may become the lightest version to buy? The Firm has promised to give a notice, when it is ready for a sale! My SuperlightM6LX 😁 - with mudguards (I'm a Rainy Dane!!!) and some extra lightweight parts for now weighs 9,35 kilo, and still with some extra, easy ways to make it even lighter, in spring (I still haven't changed all possible standard brake-parts/bolts to titanium and I may find even lighter brakes?). But the metal plates holding the original titanium stays on my mudguards may be changed to new Chinese, carbon parts with bolts, as the two mudguard holders to aluminum, instead of the originals, from "Heavy Metal", even on a Lightweight! I have those and just need to change them, when summer and better weather comes. I have also changed the axle in front to one from titanium. The back is a 6 speed Sturmey Archer Gear. And I may also change the ball bearings to a Ceramic set, as on my Crank. Finn. Denmark

@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Жыл бұрын
@@BromptonFamilyTime I did buy a Brand, seat post made from carbon which wasn't produced properly and changed its diameter along its length, but my latest, Chinese made, titanium seat post (Black, as my bike is "Black Version"!), is both made from a strong, thick material (Not some cheap, soft stuff!) and with a same diameter along its length. And the cost of a titanium post was about the same as an original Brompton post in Denmark!

Given Ti Parts are in business to cater for Ti upgrades it is a minimum requirement that when their products fail or become problematic they go the extra mile and make full reparation of faulty product including shipping , the fact that they decided to patch up one of the components that you returned I find shoddy and unacceptable , these are expensive high end parts that I feel certain had Brompton supplied them a full replacement and high quality after sales would have been standard , when all said and done companies live or die by their reputation and once tarnished it's nigh impossible to get the shine back , that's why Apple put so much effort into solving any issues swiftly and professionally .
@HolgerNestmann
@HolgerNestmann 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I think it's perfectly acceptable and more importantly more suistainable to repair a product. The customer has caused wear and doesnt need to receive a shiny new one. Also this is a super niche company which has huge material costs, comparing them to apple is not apple to apples
