We don't like the T Line! Well that's what some people thought at least as we had never made any videos on it
Well - that was because we didn't have one - but now we do - so expect more videos soon!

I have a first generation T Line so I am speaking from experience. It's a noisy bike. You need to grease it after a few months of riding to get rid of the creaky noise. It's not a simple greasing. I need to disassemble the hinge and headset area and grease and assemble again with a torque wrench. Brompton recommends using non-petroleum grease and it actually works eliminating the noise. I've had multiple punctures on it because of the horrible Tubolito inner tubes. It's very light to carry and it makes a big difference for a daily commute. I've taken it abroad as carry on luggage. But if you are a recreational rider and don't use a Brompton to everyday for work commute, I would go with a P line instead. It's cheaper and doesn't require a lot of maintenance. I think the P line is Brompton's best offering. Reliable solid bike that doesn't cost a lot of money. I ride my P more often now. Potential T buyers beware.

Many thanks for an excellent review as always Hannah. 😀 Love my T line and use it all the time - it’s super light as you say and this is really useful when changing modes of transport. Everything on it is high quality and it’s a pleasure to work on. I’ve swapped out the tubes and tyres for Conti Contact Urbans and Schwalbe tubes as recommended by others. I had to sort out a VERY squeaky seat in the first week of ownership and a quick regrease of the front clamps has quietened everything down. A “brilliant” bike in a very way…👍👍👍

As a Dane our "Scandinavian Bromptons" are all delivered with a 600mm post as Standard! And too long for my then new German, B&W luggage Box without taking my "Folding Bike" apart, so I bought a "Super Heavy", Black Telescope Post, for my "Superlight", from Brilliant Bikes, just before The Brexit, "Flagellation Exercise"!! Since then I have bought a special pump for my 2019 SuperlightM6LXBRompton (Titanium Triangle, without a "holder" for the pump!) from - Brilliant Bikes, where I first saw them demonstrated! But I now must admit that the added and unnecessary "Trade Trouble" from Brexit makes it unlikely that I will buy more parts from the GB! Finn. Denmark

The weight and the folded rolling are really appealing... Not so the lack of color options nor the lesser gears... I guess the biggest issue is the way higher price than C or P... Could probably put a C bike on an effective diet, within a smaller budget... It also seems, from availability and options, to be in it's early stages... Great, detailed explanation!

You never mentioned the actual "Weight" of the T-line - with mudguards?? My present, now - much, much modified 2019 "SuperlightM6LXBrompton", but still without a carbon handlebar and - modified mudguards, changing the "Heavy Metal" clamps to a set of carbon and aluminum, is presently weighing 8,75 kilo and I expect to be able to reach at least 8,5 kilo (+ Some more brake parts, for the original Brompton brakes, which for some reason has changed shape/bolt length during the years, - to titanium)!!! I have a Ceramic, Titanium Crank and Ceramic balls in my head set! And most all, front-axle and bolts, discs, seat post and nuts on my bike are now from Titanium. I have "stabilizers" on my clamps, to keep them positioned when folding my bike (and Security bolts in the end of the locking bolts/clamps, not to be able to - loose them during handling!!! I lost one in the growth in a wood (But luckily found it again)!! I needed to reach "the hidden tool set" in the frame!) And of course all the "Missing Protection" against "scratches" during folds, which The Factory has never provided!!! When I gave my "Brand New Bike" an Auto Polish all over, after - two or three folds, the one "clear tape", from The Factory 🤨 was nearly worn through to the paint, so I - immediately ordered a full set of "Plates and Protection" for the many known "Week Points" on a Brompton frame, so it still looks like a New Bike today! I have "tried" to improve my T Line but am unable to do so. A mechanic at NY Brompton Junction said there is a better aftermarket left pedal but I have not been able to find it. He also said the T Line is perfect "as is", and he sees a LOT of Bromptons and after market parts, so he knows, IMO. I REALLY like my T Line!

I really don't think a Junction is allowed to promote Non-Brompton parts, even if better. But a search on the Internet gives multiple, Brompton like parts from China, Korea and Taiwan which are as good, better or less expensive than the original. My black Chinese Titanium seat post I suppose has the same price as an original Brompton shaped post, but is lighter.

Any of these bikes look great . Only as a small rider my main concern is crank length ? Do the come with only 170mm cranks? A cheap ARGOS challenge folding bike comes with 140mm cranks which i have fitted to my hybrid bike 140mm is the correct length for my 69cm inseam. Is there any option to get 140mm or even 155mm , is 165mm a option ? Because 170mm for a short rider is a none starter as far as i am concerned. I take my crank lengh from on line crank length calculator 'bikefaff ' it is correct. 170mm is correct crank size for someone with 84cm (33 inches inseam), i belive this to be correct. Is there any option to get short cranks for someone with 32" inseam or less (165mm, 155mm or anything less that 170mm or are we just supposed to make that work? Even as a extra option at extra cost ?

It looks stunning. However, I'm not a fan of carbon fibre in safety-critical areas. Having owned an early Brompton where the handlebars failed (dramatically and instantly), I'm wary of the dangers of parts failing. Carbon fibre, especially where it may pick up wear has a reputation of failing without any warning. I just couldn't use a bike with carbon bits on a daily basis - I just wouldn't trust it. I'd much rather stick to steel or titanium for a daily bike. However, I'd be happy to use this as an occasional bike.

As an owner of a carbon MTB, and a former owner of a LOOK, 6,8 kilo Top Racing bike, I have never had problems with a lack of strength and I have also had a Carbon Handlebar on my Racing bikes for many years - so why the reason - any reason not to trust a "Carbon Handlebar" on a Brompton?? 🤔 Finn. Denmark
@horsenuts1831
@horsenuts1831 7 ай бұрын
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 The problem with carbon fibre is that when it fails, it does so in a catastrophic way. This usually happens when there is some form of damage (perhaps from just a single scratch). The chances of getting scratches with a folding bike, used on a train for example, is that they will pick up scratches quite easily, even if it is due to other people bumping into it. You will note that the Brompton fold requires the handlebars to swing down, and the chances of them hitting something are quite high. The user might think that a scratch is nothing to worry about until it fails. I’m not a metallurgist (but my Dad was). People tend to think of carbon fibre as a replacement for metal. Now, most metals (not aluminium) will suffer from fatigue due to the effects of flexing. However, you can’t think of carbon fibre in the same way. Carbon fibre is very strong and does not fatigue. Instead, it fails and fails quickly (instantly). Metals will have three states - solid, fatigued, and failed. Carbon fibre has two states, solid, and failed. I’m sure Brompton is sourcing the parts from a good manufacturer and have built-in some redundancy. However, I just wouldn’t want to trust it for safety-critical applications. I’m sure if I had this bike, I would be very careful with it, but I would be very wary of buying a used on (which might affect the used prices of these).

@@horsenuts1831 I have seen fails from using carbon MTBs in rough terrain, when landing after jumps, but as now 75 I have used many Top- and Superlight bikes through the years - also made from Carbon! And I have never experienced any fails or faults from those (My present Vision Kilo/fully Shimano XTR is from Carbon, and with a Carbon Handlebar)! A Brompton is very much exposed to be scratched during folding and handling, if not protected (I have added much protection to mine, from that!), but it is mostly the frame being a problem! I honestly never would find it "risky" to use another "Carbon Handlebar" and I intend to change my original Brompton Handle Bar to a new M shaped bar, as part of making my bike even lighter than my present goal of 8,5 kilo (still with Mudguards)! And if so, then only by using a Titanium handle bar, for some less weight sawing. Finn. Denmark 😀

I have rebuilt my now - much less than 2019, Top SuperlightM6LXBrompton to a weight of, which will soon be 8,5 kilo with mudguards, and for a much lower price!! I doubt this T-line with Mudguards weighs that much less than mine? Finn. Denmark

@@kavanobrien6547 My bike is a 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton (I had a 6,8 kilo Racing bike!). I have a Brompton shaped black titanium seat post, a printed saddle and clamp (China) and near all nuts, bolts, crank, front axle and many original brake and security parts are now from titanium! My mudguards are with original titanium stays but the "brackets" holding them, on top of the guards, are from "Heavy Metal", so I have found a Carbon Set with black bolts (China) and two holders for the frame, from Aluminum! I look for a Stem post from Titanium, but it is very costly for a few extra gram sawing. I haven't changed my handlebar and the parts for my mudguards and a few for my brakes, till now (When the day of summer comes!). I have protective Leather added on my frame and stem post and still original pedals (A large bolt from titanium to be added) and a strengthening bracket for my mudguards end (bromptonian.nl)! He also makes repair parts and an of road version of a triple folder.

For now it weighs 8,75 kilo and I expect to reach at least 8,5 kilo with the last changes - handlebar from carbon. And still with mudguards, as a "Rainy Dane"

I have a question: In a hypothetical dream build of a T-Line, and if the frame size were commensurate to the wheel size, would your T-Line have 16", 18", or 20" wheels? Why?

I am not keen on Brompton and especially very expensive Bromptons blinged up with other non propriety headsets and steerers with their branding spoiling the overall aesthetic. I know this is very popular in the far east. I like the concept of No Logo which Wilf Self addressed on his Volvo.

Welcome to the flexing of the Titaiume. Bcos you all asking for the trouble yourself. Silliness to me, if I may say! Instead of improving the C Line, Brompton created the P and killed the superlight. And made the T and kill the P hahahaha

Well not quite. I expect my now much modified Superlight, with 6 gears, soon weighs about the same as a T-line with mudguards, then 8,5 kilo. and still for about below half the price + what's added on top of special parts, but not at all as expensive.

Carbon fibre is not a material "for life", it is a material designed for maximum result, not maximum longevity. If I drop 4,500K on a bike, I want that bike to be for life - and that will mean sans carbon.
@napilopez

that has little to do with the material itself and everything to do with construction. Of course, the verdict is still out with the bike being so new.
