He is not as consistent. I was really impressed with him when he batted in the Pakistan tour but then he could not deliver much in IPL. Just played a one-off good innings. He needs to get his act together and bat more sensibly.

Brook will be a mainstay of all England teams in the future but his omission from the ODI side right now is justified. He's played some sensational Test and T20 innings but he's also had runs of poor form in T20s and The Hundred. Hasn't done much in the BBL or the IPL and this is pretty much his only big score in this Hundred too. He's played three ODIs so far with an 80 and two low scores. If there was no Stokes then he'd be there and the upcoming WC will undoubtedly be the end of Stokes ODI career for good, so we can expect to see Brook as a fixture in the team after that.

Given the firepower England have at their disposal at the moment, his omission is justified. This innings was amazing but he hasn't really done much else this Hundred. The fact that he had a poor IPL and the WC is in India is probably a factor too. He's only 24 and Stokes, at least, will be ending his ODI career after the WC, so expect to see Brook as a fixture beyond that point.

This innings was amazing, no doubt, but how was the rest of his Hundred? How was his IPL season? Where is the WC being played? I think that you could understand if you actually tried to. He's going to be a star, no doubt, but he hasn't been consistent, hasn't performed in India and England are packed with proven match-winners. It's really not rocket surgery.

It was his first IPL mate, he has top performances in the PSL where pitches are similar to India

@@jayaprakash-oi4qd, what universe do you live in? Obviously ODI pitches won't spin like Test pitches do but spin is important in just about any ODI and generally more so in India. The idea that there won't be pressure on him in a WC is just plain stupid. I guess there mustn't have been any pressure on him in the last T20 WC either. How did he do there? The fact is that you don't know how he'd do so you're just pretending when you make definitive statements. Maybe he would do well but there are plenty of other batters in the England squad who are just as likely to do well and have shown they can do so on the biggest stages multiple times in the past.

@@jayaprakash-oi4qd, he had a pretty decent Ashes and has obviously played well at other times too, but a 50-over WC in India is something else. He's a good batter and may even become a great batter but his productivity has been sporadic so far and England are packed with proven match-winners. I wouldn't have complained if he'd been included but there's also no reason to complain that he's been omitted. There's little doubt that he'll be part of the next WC squad and possibly several after that too.

@@jayaprakash-oi4qd, Stokes is not having injury woes. His knee won't enable him to bowl but they've already said that he's playing as a specialist batter, so that's not an issue. As for the others, being a bit out of form right now is not an issue as England have shown that they keep faith with players who have proven themselves in the past. There's still time before the WC for them to get back into form. I'm not sure that Brook's form has been so good as to warrant displacing one of the established ODI players and England clearly agree. Livingstone is attractive because of his bowling, so replacing him with Brook is a loss there. I would suggest that Malan is largely there as an understudy for Joe Root as the anchor. They probably wouldn't play both as a first choice.
