PLEASE NOTE: This is just one of many Brooklands related videos at andysvideo.com It will give a good idea of some of the things you will see when you visit Brooklands Museum. We have subtitled it to help those who may be hard of hearing and you can watch it on your smartphone, as you walk around the museum. It was made by some Brooklands enthusiasts to encourage you to visit this incredible place and although this first video deals largely with the motoring side of Brooklands who hope to make a second one highlighting the aviation exhibits in the coming years. If you have watched Secrets of a Transport Museum you will recognise a lot of grounds.
If you want to see more of my Brooklands videos (and a lot more) please go to www.andysvideo.com where you will find some 800 videos dating from the eighties
You can plan your visit at the museums website www.brooklandsmuseum.com

Fantastic to see Parry Thomas still held in such high regard as my family here in New Zealand own one of the few or maybe the only remaining Parry Thomas Specials still in existence. Handed down from my late grandfather Ron Roycroft collection 1923 1.1lite Hooker-Thomas engined Special restored by my Uncle. Just to name a couple of other thoroughbreds Grandad owned and raced were the legendary Nuvolari 1935 Geman GP winning P3 Alfa Romeo and Gonzalez 1951 Silverstone GP winning 375 Ferrari an awful lot of thoroughbred race cars ended up in New Zealand and Grandad owned many over the years. Only two in our family left are the Parry Thomas Special and a 1925 Type 35a Bugatti. The Special is on the market for realistic buyers.

My Grandfather was born in 1907 in Surbiton just 6 miles from the track. I have no doubt that he and his family could hear racing cars and aircraft at Brooklands. Perhaps that's where our families love affair with racing cars and military aircraft originates.

Not just Brooklands, a couple of miles up the road in Kingston they were making Sopwith aircraft for the 1st World War and the Hawker aircraft for the second and beyond. In later years you had the F1 teams Cooper and Brabham on your door step. The area has always been a place of engineering excellence.

Thanks for your kind words Tim, but believe me you do still need to visit. I have only scratched the surface of this incredible place. I have not mentioned the Worlds First in Aviation Wireless Communication at Brooklands, the incredible secret story of Peter Eckersley the BBC and the secret service. Did you know that more aircraft were produced here then anywhere else in the world (with an arguably posable exception of america). Then there is the fact that Barnes Wallis created his biggest achievement here, that helped led they way to Concorde and space travel and so much more. For a small taste of this see www.andysvideo.com

@@AndysVideo Even the fact that Barnes-Wallis worked in the clubhouse until 1971 sent a shiver down my spine. I started work when he was still working. Born in 1953 I grew up on the Dambusters story.

You will find a couple of his bouncing bombers at the Museum, plus some of his other variants, one of which you can watch us moving in a couple of weeks time on the Yesterday Channel TV series called Secrets of a Transport Museum.
