I've really grown an affection and personable relationship with some Hasidic Jews over the years. When you speak to them, and really see that their values are Family, Faith, minimal technological influence, they really kind of have the right ideas... Some of course go super extreme as do all religions, but the Hasidic are genuinely hardworking, great family people and they are more than happy to have a conversation with you in the Crown Heights area as long as you show respect and are genuine with them. As a young ignorant man, I used to think poorly of them, the reason I type this is because we all grow and have personal experiences in which we connect with others, different than ourselves, and those connections are beautiful in shaping a proper mindset, heart, and soul, and opening yourself up to becoming a better more informed, and less judgmental person. Alright, I'm rambling now, God Bless yall!

I had to watch this video in two sittings, because life. Now I may have missed it, but I can’t believe you didn’t mention the West Indian Day Parade aka the Labor Day Parade on Eastern Parkway. As a child, I knew that we had Labor Day off from school being a holiday, but I didn’t realize it was a National Holiday. Considering it’s been a tradition for this parade to happen on Labor Day, I never knew until I was a teen/young adult what the observance was for. I didn’t know that everyone else in the country were throwing cookouts/bbqs on Labor Day lol.

I grew up in Crown Heights (formerly known as Crow Hill), and you've told me a lot things I never knew about it. My building, on President Street, was built in 1929. That was on the site of the Kings County Penitentiary's outer wall. That prison, which was sometimes also called the President Street Jail, was between Nostrand and Rogers Avenues, and President and Montgomery Streets. It was demolished in 1907. The convicts made shoes and brooms, and also were forced to work, while in chains, on the construction of some buildings in the neighborhood. Medgar Evers College is now entirely within the site of the old prison.

The other thing about chasidisism is that they are mystical about their practice. Its hard to explain. My mom grew up in borough park but left the strict religious life. Her family came from Budapest, Hungary, and owned an upholstery shop. Worked very hard in the 1960's through 80's. No government assistance, just hard working.

Thanks. I'm originally from Crown Heights, but when I was 8 years old my mother took me to Compton California where I grew up. It was a culture shock moving to SOUTHERN california in 1965, I'd never seen such racist police before (I'm African American) and one officer got very aggressive with me because I didn't have a southern accent and he decided I was trying to sass him. I missed hearing about the Crown Heights riot in the 1990's, thanks for the history lesson.

Brooklyn my beloved home, visited a few months ago... and... IDE NEVER RETURN!!! its way!! too!! crowded!!! OMG!! i left Brooklyn in 94, transferred college down to Sarasota FL. (best move ever) As far as im concerned the best of Brooklyn was in the past. right to the time i left. after that came gentrification and a whole new onslaught of people who had a history of snubbing their noses at Brooklyn. But with the cost of city living so high and Brooklyn having far FAR more choice real-estate than most people outside the borough realized, Brooklyn quickly became the place to be. We always had shifts in immigrants. well rooted in diversity. but these new people ... well lets just say... yuk. I do appreciate their ambition. never seen such a boom in new businesses in a very very long time. but with their arrival also comes with long term natives being pushed out. well. its both bad and good. Brooklyn is undergoing a new revival. But lets hope it remains Brooklyn and not baby Manhattan. and last my visit, it is leaning more towards the later. hell, i even got to enjoy Sarasota for a few decades while it was off the nations radar, Sarasota, Clearwater and Saint pete. which all came to an end during the pandemic. now even those places are flooded by the wrong sorts. oh well. good thing ive moved onto the one of the last off the radar hot spots. and no... im keeping this one a secret.

@n cx after the black child was hit by a car in the motorcade of the rebbe. The ambulance pulled up the people there were very understandably mad and filled with grief, and like some people in such situation and as the following weeks showed, the community and people in that vicinity where ready for violence which I wouldn't say is right but I can't imagine what they were feeling and chances could have been, and that feeling the police acted on by sending the jewish volunteer (haztolo) ambulance away because there was a very high chance of escalation (and there was right after) so for the safety of these paramedics they were told to vacate the premises.
@ncx3066
@ncx3066 Жыл бұрын
@@mustafa-ky9vs yes, they were upset because of the accident but the police sending the ambulance away was more indicative of the preferential treatment the hiasdic community received which enabled their very unneighborly attitude towards the west indians that lived in the same area. The incident was just the straw that broke the camels back and to the people of the area was not seen as one isolated incident but represented one in many in which the response and treatment was unfair. The accident itself happened because hiasdic driver wasn't abiding by rules that apply to others.
@mustafa-ky9vs
@mustafa-ky9vs Жыл бұрын
@n cx first and foremost saying "the straw that broke the camels back" sounds like your trying to if not justify but allow the violence that followed which included the brutal murder of an innocent man, who had no connection to the entire incident other than being a jew that lived in that community. Violence is never an option. It is very sad and unfortunate that a child was killed in a motor accident but the fact that the same people who were trying to help and tend to the child involved were told to leave shows on the nature of the people that lived in that area at the time. It's very sad that the child was killed. But there are miles between murder and accidental death. You talk about preferential treatment I'm not sure what your referring to. If you refer to the motorcade just like any famous/important persons they usually get VIP treatment, I'm sure there are many people from the west indie community that lived/lives in CH get VIP for their achievements and accomplishments that brought them to great levels of success. Side point the concept of hatzola (volunteer ambulance) have served both white/black , jew/gentile alike and saved many lives then and now. The upsetting thing is that the people there were so blinded by grief and hate that they chose violence on the very people that were helping them, Which is just very indicative of a lack in controlling one's emotions and actions which I think can be rooted in education, which starts in the home. If you think this may be a racial statement I assure you I've seen this type of behavior and lack of education across the board in every race, religion and culture. It's a small example of a large issue.
@ncx3066
@ncx3066 Жыл бұрын
@@mustafa-ky9vs im not advocating for violence just pointing out that the riot stemmed from preexisting tensions. I'm pretty sure that no one was happy that an innocent man was killed the same way no one was happy the kid was killed. Whereas the killer of the innocent man paid for his crime, there was no justice for Gavin. This speaks to the preferential treatment i mentioned. Like I said the Haisadic Jews in the area aren't really all that neighborly.
