Soaps wouldn't even remotely have the balls to do something as challenging as this now. Trevor Jordache was pure evil - so well acted - in fact, the acting of the whole family was amazing - especially Anna Friel's rise as the challenger to Trevor's evil.

the most "REALISTIC" soap ever made in uk, got silly in the last few years, but up to that point, was streets ahead of other soaps , nothing else came "CLOSE" !!!!!

Beautifully done and superb acting I was only a child myself and have loving parents I can’t imagine what it must b like for young girls having to go through such horrific stuff like this your own Father abusing you and many would b like Rachel they don’t fully understand what’s happening or may not realise they’re been abused or groomed it’s only when they’re grown women they start to understand or make light of their ordeal I hope those victims of sexual or domestic abuse can get the help and support they need male or female you don’t deserve to b treaded like that so if you or someone you know has thus happen or it’s happening don’t b like Rachel and others by sticking around to see how bad it gets get out and speak out don’t suffer in silence Xx

Brookie always had good storylines. They'd never air something like this nowadays as they're interested in either fluffy drama or being pc.

I was about 16 when this went out, I remember being totally hooked by the storyline. The episode where they poisoned him with weedkiller before stabbing him was totally edge of the seat stuff.

Bloody horrible. Brookside was definitely the grittiest of soaps.

I used to watch "Brookside" when I lived in the UK; I left in 1988 so I'm seeing a lot of these episodes for the first time. Can someone please fill me in on how much time elapsed between what is going on in this clip and Beth dying in prison? Both Mandy and Rachel have very different hairstyles in those scenes.

Beth had to carry the burden of this because her mother was weak.

The acting in soaps back then was often feature film quality. Compare it with the cheap, brainless crap nowadays.

Brookside had good stories at this point ....but it turned into the Jimmy Corkhill show and got irritating towards the end .
