I was from a very conservative lawyers home. And was also trained to not be taken in by these well meaning fakirs and the poverty stricken country they represent . 50 years I never gave it a second thought. Occasionally seeing a polite Hatha in turbin at organic grocery. One day I was there looking for a new cure to a big probkem. Getting a sterile stomach back from a 40 day fast. So as I looked through a shelf and there was a strange white ceramic jar with black top. It looked like a remedy given to us by some other lawyers family up the line we play cards with and go to lodge and listen to Manly P Hall speak. Mr. Kimmer would always replenish this salve and it would always help with owies and such. So I had to try it as it said it was made by yogis... Ah those well meaning fakirs. And it really helped. I have gone up to 126 days with sipping water. But I was getting older and I didn't have a master to tell me to slow down as you get older. And even thin juice or electrolyte from structured water with balanced mineral additive. So I lived theough a very critical ordeal. Dying after 20 years of IV antibiotics every 6 months to stay alive. I had avoided anyone making a fool out of me with foreign gods and had one foot on a banana peel and the other on a gravestone. I was dying. I was dying because I had no guru to tell me what to do. With my last effort I made it to a new organic grocery as Gentle Strength is gone forever. Ah those days at ASU music Dept. Taking a coffee between practice and a new guest conductor every week. So now it's Sprouts and many others. I gave the nice lady all my symptoms and diagnosis...which were acute and advanced. She gave me an Rx of food and preparations and advice and 6 weeks later I had my doctor walk up to me with a paper. And said your kidneys are functioning and rising. You don't need dialysis anymore. I had also been given a death counselor paid an hour a week to help. I had come to the conclusion it was the end of my life and whatever I was doing wasn't working . He did a cursory Q and A and then asked what my spiritual background was..had I ever studied eastern thought..no I hadn't. Ever hear of Babaji the deathless saint ? Well they didn't tell me they sent me a Zen master straight from Gurdiev Ouspenski . He was named number one student of "the teacher" and the rare title of conscious being. He later married and started a practice counseling. Looking for ones ready to wake in the dream he was scouring insurance files for just such folks hit bottom medically and ready to try anything. Which are the magic words every counselor is waiting for ...just as a nervous gun aiming cop is hearing surrender from the criminal and puts his gun away and can begin correcting the situation. We have to be disarmed. Usually intellect is the weapon most used. We are all convinced we are doing the right thing even if it is wrong. Plus or minus a few necessary compromises. And soon you need a teacher anyway. Someone to convey the direction of proven success. So this teacher James Westly knew he needed a teacher...he was president of AIG. The trillion dollar rip off guys years later. So here he was teaching me wasn't gonna die .. he knows dying guys and he said yer just not one of em. So he did a one minute meditation to see if o could go a minute without thought. I did so well I hit bliss first time. Then it was eye to eye with a master. He secretly gave me something... Then the light flew in to my face one a.m. and i was being shishkabobbed alive by a giant welding torch. It said not to fear and the karma burn of a lifetime ensued . The doctor said no more dialysis yer free to go. James was ready to stop the presses. What? Thats....impossible ! He said with a knowing smile. After 6 months he said he could do no more for me but you must go to Self Realization Fellowship and form a peer group read everything attend everything and be there. Then he told me of Paramahansa Yogananda and the tremendous book he penned Autobiography of A Yogi. That very evening my nurse came in the door from some errand and said he was going to the library to get a book he had seen 20 years before. When he said it I knew immediately what that boom was . What is the name of the book George? It was . I was right . Something major was afoot. When he came in we both had our hands on the book and lights started dancing in my periphery and the whole room went electric like a static charge or lightning and I could smell negative ions . I said do you see that ?George said....they're here ! Seven years later James called and had published his bio. Can he bring a copy over. He spent $1000 printed 5 copies. Gave one to Gurdiev and one or two to family and the last one he gave to me. Then he gave me the single highest compliment in my life. He said. You were my number one David. Never saw anyone come so far so fast. I couldn't be more pleased even if Trump made me the bohemian ambassador to Disneyland ! So during all this I am on a slow recovery getting noticeably better every day. For years. Then I noticed I was perfect ....and still getting better.....all this while watching the world descend daily into madness. How can this be . Well I'm still waiting to get younger and live forever . If yer waiting to live forever you'll be waiting a long time... Cribbage anyone ?

Grandfather would take us to the Toledo masonic hall. The dinners were fabulous and Manly P Hall would visit lodges and films were distributed for Demolays young men and he is a real corker. The single finest example of applied wisdom and fine advice.
