And when the suspects are caught they will likely be set free on minimal bail by some activist judge. Then they will plea bargain the case down to manslaughter and theft of the car. And they will get 5 years in prison, serving 3. And that isn't really a punishment for them, it's not like it's going to kill their chances of becoming an electrical engineer or cost them their job. They get to hang out all day, learning new crime stuff and playing cards. Then they will be out on the street again to commit new crimes and victimize more people.

Unpopular opinion. Why would a parent think, even for a second, to leave a minor unattended in a vehicle (possible still running with the keys inside)? I feel sorry for her son. Nobody deserves to grow up without their mother. But she was careless. Many bad outcomes could have happened here due to this negligent behavior that is being overlooked.
