Brother Polight: In Prison and In Poor Communities, the White Man is the Devil

Author and social commentator Brother Polight returned to VladTV to talk about his experience leaving Brownsville, New York. Polight notes that many brag about living in the hood, but that a common mentality amongst people who live there is, "Can't wait to get out." Polight also argues that "black communities" are mostly a myth: "I didn't live in a black community, I lived in a white community populated with black people." Watch above.

He's absolutely right. I'm from Brownsville as well and growing up there the people was so bitter and if you was a good guy just trying to get ahead in life, they hated you for it. If you was bad and went around gangbang you got all the praise from the hood people. Me and my family always stayed away from the negativity.

"I cannot force myself to see contradiction, when reality tells me otherwise." It is natural for us to be this way; although, this is the very logic that is and has been exploited through deceitfulness. It accumulates even more confusion and frustration when some of us have a grasp on an individual's and or a group of the very reality we share. There is reason our minds begin to shift from quote such as so, but what is it? Have we only assumptions and excuse. There are things that happen; solutions can be found close in range, but we look elsewhere. There are things that happen; solutions can be found elsewhere, but we refuse to budge. Please, if you see this, think more for the minds of your kin and that of which holds them in contempt to their true peace and equity; as I do for all of us; but do not be mistaken, and I am no saint; It does not take one to set apart from a deceptive reality. We all have a swaying spirit of which we are able to wield, and can yield freely as we function.

Hmmm. "We live in a white community populated by black people:" interesting insight. But how can black people be the landlords running those important institutions he mentions, when he can't even run his own home effectively? Wouldn't it be more prudent to encourage black people in their homes and in the raising of their children, to first gain success there before seeking to take leadership over government institutions? Wouldn't it be more prudent to encourage the black communities to first find success in running their own business before reaching out to head things that are higher in importance and complexity? I question the wisdom of people who neglect to strengthen the foundation before attempting to build on it.

Understand, inerstand, overstand lol overstand I understood what the person above wanted to get at but feel thats its deeper than that. The Distinction between Overstanding and Understanding is a matter of context and awareness. To overstand is to comprehend a thing itself AND to have knowledge of why it is the way it is and of its place or role in the grand scheme of things. If you can use something or do a job, you understand and memorize enough to to act. (be a competent consumer of it) one who understands may also be able to innovate or redesign but otherwise accepts the boundaries of a thing as given.

He made a valid point about being done wrong by your own people. This happens with every nationality but with black people we seem to do it the most.which is a big part of our problem as far as making progress in society. From dealing drugs to each other, gang violence, alcohol/drug abuse, being jealous and envious of each other, tearing each other down is just as bad as being discriminated against, being denied employment opportunities, being falsely accused and convicted for something that you didn’t do and police brutality.
