I have had my Brother PQ-1500s since 2009. That machine has had zero problems, it performs brilliantly, I have never had any problems with tension or skipped stitches. After fifteen years my PQ-1500 works as well today as it did from the day I brought it home.

That you for your real review! Everyone raved about it but I wasn't too sure as I had a Borther lemon in the past. I ended up with the Juki after deciding between the Brother, Juki and Janome.

I love honesty .. I experience the same with my Babylock Jane trying to do heavy fabrics and leathers on it. It is a quilting machine more than anything and does great for that and light fabrics. Sailrites are beasts. LOL there is a big learning curve.

if you sew with leather or vinyl, you need to increase your top tension, and when you do, your bobbin thread will look like the top thread. I like using a heavier thread on the top and a regular thread in by bobbin when top sttitching with vinyl or leather.

I think you got a lemon. My pq1500sl has not given me problems and I got mine in December 2019 but Ty for the video just the same.

Yes me too I have the same problem. It cuts too short and the tension is so tight. Wow I want to return it. I’m going to call brother I’ve had it for several month. I wonder if I have a lemon.yes mine does that nesting too☹️

You probably don’t want to hear about the PQ1500 saga but after years of debating to buy it from the mixed reviews- I finally did. I’ve had it for 5 days and I noticed that the Aurifil thread is tangling on itself by the spool. I did get a bad 3 pack because one of the Aurifil spools spilled a huge mess of threads when I removed the base to find the start of the thread. Finally got a hold of Aurifil and Karen and Ed are amazing! She was on the phone with me for over an hour and retreaded my PQ in a different way and it worked! But… I’m still hanging onto the PQ box. Other than the thread issue, I love it. Scared to deal with the bobbin since I’ve been running on the prewound bobbin that comes installed in the machine. Wish me luck lol…

On your Brother PQ1500 ... did you make sure that your presser foot gauge color band was the same color as your feed dog positioning color?

I think you got a lemon on the Brother. I have had my Brother since 2008 and never ever had your issues. I think you should go to a dealer to try several machines on your own fabric to see how it feels. I bought my Brother from a dealer. Buying online is a crap shoot, because you need to "bond" with your machine and see if it is right for you. You get the support from your dealer and the free lessons too. So if something was not fixable, your dealer would get you a new one and would stand behind the machine. We all have brands we love more than others too and that comes from trying a variety of brands and models within each brand. I bought a Juki 2000DXQVP that was an expensive machine and did a lot of stitches. I made the mistake of buying it at a quilt show from an out of state dealer so I didn't get the support. I had to send the machine back to Juki America and they have terrible customer service. The machine never sewed as nice as the demo at the show. Like you Adrian, I tried everything and just started to hate the machine, even though it was a great machine with some amazing features. I couldn't get my money back and it stayed in the closet most of the 2 years I owned it. I pulled it out and tried again and again to get it to sew the stitches right. I finally sold it for a lot less than what I paid for it. We all have stories about new and used machines that we love or don't like so much. I felt like I too got a lemon on that Juki. I do own the straight stitch Juki TL2000 Qi, which is very much like the Brother. I mainly got that as a back up machine for the Brother. I like that Juki, but the Brother is my go to machine that I use daily. There are other semi-industrial straight stitch only machines in other brands. Juki sells several different models, Brother and Babylock sells one that is the same machine as the Brother, Janome 1600P, and the fancier more expensive version the Janome HD9 that a lot of people are raving about, but the cost is so much more! I tried the Janome 1600P, but what turned me off of that one was not only it was more money, but you had to use a plate to cover the feed dogs when quilting. Same with the Grand Quilter by Pfaff (which they don't make anymore). I liked the drop feed dog lever on the Brother. I also was looking into industrial machines and the Sailrite Fabricator, but like you I decided it was overkill for my needs. I do love the semi industrial machines because they are domestic without being fully industrial. I think you will find the right semi-industrial machine for yourself. Maybe even try the Brother again at a dealer who sell them or can get one in. My dealer had to order one in for me to try because back then he had sold out of them. Another thing is machines that you can typically buy online, they do not usually sell at the dealers. First of all people will come in and try them and then buy cheaper online, so dealers don't stock those machines. Dealers carry more variety and they have used machines that you can try too. Buying used (or new) online from places like Ebay you just don't know what you are getting unless you know that particular machine. It's too costly to buy online and return. While they may have free shipping and returns the prices have gone up quite a bit since this pandemic started. If people return they have to raise their prices. Plus since machines mostly come from Asia, the dealers have sold out too and have to wait for more to arrive. FB Market place is a good place to look for a used machine and try it too. Also Craigslist. Do your research and take your mask and go try a used one if you find one. Good luck!

Yes totally agree not to buy one online. Dealer only. Sad to hear that Juki customer service in the United States is crappy. Typical Japanese companies are a lot better than that.
